You know what the irony of TR is, if he was around in 2021, people would be put off by his intensity, his vigor, his energy, his hunting, and think he was clinically insane and never could be elected president because they would have "Howard Dean Scream" him to death by saying "Real Presidential Candidates" don't do boxing matches and judo wrestling. He's too violent to be president.

No human being ever squeezed more into six decades than Theodore Roosevelt. Being born into privilege definitely gave him a leg up, but his story is still pretty amazing. Most people born into that kind of wealth would have been quite happy to sit on their money, get some cushy government post or corporate job, and spend their life in quiet comfort, going to cocktail parties, lounging on yachts, and never leaving their metropolitan comfort zone---but not Teddy. He was a beast---a physical, mental, and intellectual BEAST!!

Maybe there’s some science to his schedule. Getting out in nature, indulging in creative activities such as studying philosophy, and physics activities help you feel grounded and alive. That makes a short yet intense bout with studying doable, for in the back of your mind you always know you’ve got something fun and involving to partake in. You are able to sacrifice life to that more mundane activity because of the joy you allow yourself on a daily basis.

I think one key thing to potentially keep in mind was that TR also had depressive tendencies, and suffered significant psycohological trauma in his life (for example, both his young wife and his mother dying within the same day, among other traumas), so we could read his hyper-activity as a way to maintain his mental health at a time when other/more-effective/less-strenuous methods were not known. But still a very exciting historical figure that I too want to emulate in some ways!

Ah nice, a video about my favorite person. Working non-intensely is one of my biggest issues so I'm going to give that a shot today. An interesting thing I found about Theodore Roosevelt was when he went and worked as a cowboy that one summer he came back as a completely different person. He had a spiritual and physical awakening through hard work.

Unfortunately most of those accounts are made up stories to make him look better as a person John Milton Cooper Jr. notes in “The Warrior and the Priest,” His commitment to the western ways were neither permanent or deep. Between summers of 1884 and 1886 he spent only 15 months on his ranch…” and James Bradley writes in his book “The Imperial Cruise” that “Teddys frontier life was more soft blankets than barbwire, but Roosevelt skillfully projected a different reality.” Roosevelt was obsessed with PR so he created his character around the popular Buffalo Bill symbology.

It’s interesting that Theodore Roosevelt did some of the most amazing things at the turn of the 20th century but a decade later in 1912 split the vote to give the US the worst President in the form of Woodrow Wilson. I’ve not read the biography of Edmund Morris but have read his Amazon expedition which is super awesome.

Famous story about Teddy, don't know how true but he was famous for his long and sublime speeches , which he would deliver in a thundering tone completely memorized and delivered to huge crowds without aid of Microphone. There was an assassination attempt on his life during a speech, and story goes he had a speech in a pocket over his heart. The lapel pocket I guess. The speech was so thick that it stopped the bullet and saved his life as the bullet became lodged partway through in the thick bundle of papers! Guns were not nearly as good back then, bullets either. Thank God! Never the less...

if this Theodore Roosevelt individual was born in this generation he would have probably watched movies and played video games instead of enjoying nature and reading poetry.

I don't know, him being sickly and weak early on and his competitive nature? That's usually a formula for someone who wanted to prove to himself, the world, and God that he is anything but. And usually, when you're on a roll, the momentum can carry you pretty far.

You've got it the wrong way around. He was a product of his own determination and drive...not his environment. If you find yourself wasting your hours sitting on a couch or gaming chair watching or pretending to do great deeds...then you've missed the point of being alive in the first place.
