Is astral projection lucid dreaming? Have you ever had dreams about leaving your body? There's some debate about whether astral projection/out of body experiences are a separate experience to typical dreams and lucid dreams or not. I personally categorise them as both internal (i.e. you're not actually leaving your body) but different experiences, but today I won't be talking about actual out of body experiences, but instead the all too common dream of leaving your body that can happen when you use such techniques.

I've had a few OBE's since starting lucid dreaming about 18 months ago. Never knew it was a thing, just woke up one time in the middle of the night and heard blips of this roaring sound, very loud. Then eventually these blips joined up and as soon as they did I had a huge electrical vibration through my body, then I started to roll, rolled more and rolled out of bed! The most curious thing was that I never hit the floor. I braced my head, opened my eyes and I was just hovering an inch above the floor.

The things you describe as differences between dreams and OBEs don't sound like differences at all. They sound more like the differences between a vague dream and a hyper-realistic, vivid dream. Bodies aren't required for dreams, and I've had dreams where scenery is overall stable. For example, my house in false awakenings is extraordinarily stable. I can't say for certain what it is, but I tend to apply Occam's Razor, and apply the most likely or logical experience. For me, that explanation is that these experiences are dreams or exceedingly close to dreams, possibly highly vivid dreams. That doesn't make them lucid dreams though. There's little understanding as to what these experiences actually are, though they most closely resemble dreams, and tend to happen during REM states, as your discussion of sleep paralysis indicates. I think the error is in equating all kinds of dreams with necessarily behaving in certain ways. You have had experiences that differ in kind from the ones you described as dreaming of OBEs in this video, but that doesn't mean that those experiences weren't actually dreams in their own right.

I had this happen one time. I was attempting to see if I could do an astral projection, and I felt like I was, but it was an actual dream of me doing so. I've never had an actual astral projection experience.

Man your lucky.. I try to induce dreams.. but astral project.. and yeah when I'd first begun trying a few years ago I would have dreams where I astral project.. not once but 2 or 3 or 4 times. It was so weird..then my guides would call me back so I would then return to body after body until I woke up

I used to try astral projection a lot growing up. I tried numerous techniques, including the rope technique. I could never succeed. I never dedicated enough time to it to really achieve it. I would feel like my body and consciousness would want to separate, but then I would just fall asleep or fully wake back up. The one and only time I fully astral projected, I wasn't trying to. I was trying to call a specific spirit to me of a friend's friend who passed away years ago, not sure why, more just curiosity. It wasn't the specific act that caused me to astral project. It was keeping my mind so focused on one thing when my body fell asleep, that my mind stayed awake. It was the weirdest and most terrifying experience. I was 100% fully conscience and aware. I was slightly floating next to my bed in my actual bedroom, looking down at my physical sleeping body, sleeping in the exact position I ended up waking up in. It felt as real as the waking world, so much more real than a lucid dream. It only lasted about 15 seconds, if I had to guess, before I got too scared and snapped back to my body. I always heard it was very scary the first time, since it's such a new sensation. As scary as it was, I loved every second of it and long to do it again, but it was years ago that it happened.

In a video of the astral doorway channel it was explained that dreams actually take place on the astral plane, sort of like a private bubble. And through lucid dreaming you could break outside of your dream and experience actual astral projection. My idea was that maybe by seeing through the illusion of everything in my dream and especially the nightmares, I might be able to break through that and enter the "real" astral world. But I rarely have lucid dreams nowadays so I haven't been able to give it a try for myself. I did one time dream about VR, since I was looking forward to having VR a lot, I found myself in a dream and I was talking about VR and I looked at a giant floating dragon and I was like wow look at that 😂 this is basically VR already! ❤🎉

Come to think of it.. I did have one astral projection dream, but it's very weird and a little embarrassing. I felt the push of sleep paralysis (I've had a lot of them since my teen years), I dreamt I then went out of my body, seeing myself vaguely in the dark under the blankets, flew to the other room via the entryway, saw a shadow person looking at the wall to where I would be on the other side and uhh.. the rest I'll keep classified. The world isn't ready. 😳 Best part about this is that I feel energized, like pure excitement/ glee without the actual feeling. Though my sleep paralysis dreams/hallucinations don't go into astral projections normally, it's just this one time. Also sadly, I don't get many sleep paralysis experiences anymore after I discovered my technique.

What's your technique for stopping sleep paralysis may I ask? Also... is the world ready yet
@Bidmartinlo
@Bidmartinlo 4 ай бұрын
@@Oliver-wv4bd The world will never be ready. But in all seriousness it essentially boils down to not being afraid of it and trying to be prepared in advance. So you can for instance think to yourself that you will get up whenever you have sleep paralysis or imagine something fighting the entities for you or something entirely different. I usually did this right before bed on days I was depressed or stressed or exhausted (ie, whenever you feel weak), because it feels like sleep paralysis is more common then. And you can break sleep paralysis no problem; get up, slowly and keep getting up until you start moving. It will feel like you're moving something very heavy, but it will work eventually. It's easier the more times you've done it, to the point it's harder to stay asleep than waking up. Not being afraid is a little bit harder to teach, because people usually work more on instincts than thoughts. Still, I thought that nothing could hurt me during sleep paralysis and that there was nothing in the dark which I couldn't fight back against. It can help checking all the dark corners of your apartment/house, because at least your sub-conscious will be semi-satisfied. Get up again to check if you're still nervous (and if you don't need that much sleep). In short; willpower ultimately defeats sleep paralysis.

@@Bidmartinlo Thank you so much for the advice!! I've only experienced sleep paralysis for a couple of times but it was definitely when I was super stressed out about something or nervous or sleep-deprived. I'll bear everything you said in mind - willpower really is the solution to most problems in life it seems haha Thanks a lot again, appreciate you taking the time to write your comment 😊

So I've been trying to astral project I've done it 3 times 2 times it was like a dream but with a extreme floating sensation it most certainly was not a dream although i was not in this dimension it wasn't the same as waking reality and had its difrences But last night i was dreaming of astral projecting but i knew i wasn't actually out of my body but it was just a dream because the same feeling wasn't there

Something I've done a couple of times is tell myself that I'm going to wake myself up and remain perfectly still so that sleep paralysis takes hold right away. I then do this and perform the rope technique from there.

@Tipharot
@Tipharot 5 ай бұрын
Try laying in a position that's not the normal position you fall asleep easily in, that can help you retain awareness during the process. It's also not always the end of the world to just fall back asleep when performing DEILD, as long as you hold the dream you want to revisit in mind there's still a good chance of it causing a DILD if you end up in a similar dream.

What about this: you suddenly realizing that you are in a dream. Now, in this lucid dream, you fly into your bedroom and look at your physical body in the bed, looking very very lifelike. Is it still a lucid dream? I would say no.
@Carl_Frank
@Carl_Frank 5 ай бұрын
Why not? I don't see why one couldn't see a lifelike depiction of their sleeping body in a dream, and still be aware that it is a dream. Now, if seeing that made the person forget that they were in a dream (as distractions can), then it wouldn't be a lucid dream anymore (or more accurately, they would not be lucid in that dream), but it is entirely possible for one to remain aware that it is a dream even after seeing such a shocking thing.

@@Carl_Frank, yes, but if that experience of seeing the body (in a lucid dream) clears out the dreamyness (and there is a realization that I actually looking at my physical body), how to know the difference from a OBE if both experiences are percieved the same?
@Carl_Frank
@Carl_Frank 5 ай бұрын
@@FilmBritt Until I have a way to confirm at least add credence to the idea that it is somehow a person leaving their body, I tend to lean towards assuming the more mundane notion of it being a dream, since we know dreams are a thing. To me, "having the realization" that I am looking at my real body from the outside would be the definition of losing lucidity within a dream, not losing "dreamyness". If one is truly leaving their body and seeing the real world in an OBE, there should be a way to confirm this, such as retrieving (and confirming) information one couldn't otherwise have, but I have never heard of conclusive evidence like that being documented aside from vague anecdotes (claims) online. Don't get me wrong; if OBEs are possible, I would love that to be true. I just take more convincing than some, I guess.
@Tipharot
@Tipharot 5 ай бұрын
I would say yes this is still a lucid dream. Nothing about seeing your body in bed changes the nature of the experience. You can definitely encounter yourself in lucid dreams. OOBEs as I've experienced them have been more akin to the hallucinations present in sleep paralysis, than to a dream.
