My goal is to have a big homegrown salad by Easter which comes early this year on March 31. Cool season crops like lettuce, spinach, arugula and radishes can take cool soil, matter of fact they prefer it. But at just 33 degrees F, my raised beds are just a little too cold.
Forty-five degrees would be perfect so to make that happen, I'm covering my beds with plastic to capture the sun and warm things up. I'll also be adding low tunnels in a few weeks which will add another layer of protection and warmth. I'm giving it four weeks under cover before the first lettuce seedlings go in. I can't wait!
