Secret Wars is the 2015 Marvel Comics event that was written by Jonathan Hickman to be the closing act of his epic saga that spanned across the Fantastic Four and the Avengers. After the incursion between the 616 and Ultimate Marvel Universe takes place, Earth will be replaced with Battleworld, led by God Doom as his reign is under threat from Thanos.

I found the whole contrast,between the lead up that is cosmic in scale and this event that is quite small in scale, great. And that first issue was amazing, imagine seeing that reimagined onto the movie screen in a 4DX cinema.

Hickman is a great writer and storyteller, but I appreciate your comic reviews for taking everything into account as opposed to others who just go by name recognition. I really enjoy his Fantastic Four run. I couldn’t get into his Avengers run…his New Avengers run I’d be willing to give another shot, even if only to get more Reed and Doom (preferably more Doom).

Best event they have done in the last decade. Respect all opinions but felt it was a perfect way to end his time at marvel until he returned to the x men. Would say none of the tie ins are required reading they are definitely more supplementary material. Personally felt it was more enjoyable than house of m solely for the world felt more developed than the warped reality Wanda had created. Did not think magneto was present enough to be the main villain whereas dr doom was very prominent.

I have been saving Secret wars to read when I start my Hickman readathan. Thing is I brought the singles as they were coming out all excited and interested how seeing the Ultimate universe end, and then kinda forgot to read em!! 😂

Hickman’s Secret Wars is coming out in Deluxe form next year. Was supposed to be this year but got pushed back

Loved the series. It's one of the few Marvel stories that I own. With that said, Secret Wars is like every story out there where not everyone will like it. That's what make stories so amazing.

Secret Wars is special to me because it’s a massive company wide event that’s a lot more dialogue and character focused then stuff like Fear Itself, Secret Empire (which I actually liked), Empyre, ect. Just felt like a lot of the best moments though, happened in Time Runs Out or the fantastic four runs. DOOM was great tho

I would definitely say that the Avengers and New Avengers run was much better than Secret Wars itself but, it was a still a very well done read.

Honestly pretty spot on, if you didn't read all of Hickmans stuff leading up to this it just wont be as meaningful reading it as a standalone event

TBH, Jonathan Hickman's Secret Wars is truly a Masterpiece because Jonathan Hickman is the best Marvel writer of all time. Some of Hickman's works I want to read are: Fantastic Four, Secret Warriors, Avengers Vs X-Men, Hickman's Ultimate Comics: The Ultimates, and of course... Avengers/New Avengers.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the event it’s just there should’ve been more lasting consequences AFTER. Obviously I can’t blame Hickman.

I added Secret Wars to my pull list when I was just getting into comics. Big mistake. I can honestly say that this event ruined Marvel Comics for me. It felt like a jumbled mess, and I had no idea what was going on. I dropped it halfway through the event because I hated it so much. Just give me my DC Comics. I can follow those better because everything isn't so interconnected.

I finally read Secret Wars a couple of months ago, finishing my Hickman readthrough. I honestly find it to be small and underwhelming, considering the 2 Avengers Omnis that lead into it, I expected something hugely spectacular, but it just didn't deliver. I know people LOVE this event, but I just don't know why. Maybe I need to read a fattened version of the event, including some of the tie ins, becaus eI only read the main event issues.

You really need to start with Hickman’s Fantastic Four to appreciate everything Secret Wars has. It’s certainly an odd book, because it follows Hickman’s Avengers, but it’s very much a love letter to the Fantastic Four and acts as the finale to that run from a few years earlier.

An event mini shouldn't require any reader to purchase tie ins in order to enjoy a series, the fact you were left underwhelmed is failure on their part.

@@mitchschroeder1151 I did read the full Hickman's FF run, but Secret Wars wasn't the encore I expected, neither for his FF nor Avengers. I do think my expectations were too high, and that's almost always a recipe for disappointment. I think I might appreciate it better on my second read through, but it could take me a couple of years to get back to it.

I thought Hickman's Secret Wars was disappointing, fizzled out as the issues were released, and at time was just boring. One of the worst event minis I've read.
