Many people don’t know that Sreamin’ Jay Hawkins was an opera singer and a boxing champ. He joined the army at age 13 using forged ID. He was a formidable opponent in the army and later in the airforce boxing circuits. He won several boxing golden glove awards mostly in his hometown of Cleveland. In 1949 he won Alaska’s middleweight title. 9 years old Angelina Jordan just delivered him a TKO. LOL Thank you for your excellent reaction video of Angelina Jordan and keep up the good work.

I’ve watched this video hundreds of times, and I never get tired of it. Her talent, her presence, and her musicality are astonishing. It’s probably my favorite music video of all time, but I can’t say that for sure because her performance of Bohemian Rhapsody is just stunningly original and impressive. I’ll settle for saying that I Put a Spell on You is my favorite from 9 year old Angelina, and Bohemian Rhapsody is my favorite when she was 13. Just keep listening and you’ll hear a once in a lifetime talent.

I can count on one finger the number of 9 year old's that I want to hear sing any song more than once, I've watched and listened to this rendition MANY times!

Angelina was exposed to jazz as a baby, loved it and became obsessed with singing it. She absorbed music like a sponge and developed it as a native language along with Norwegian and English. Add to that great innate musical talent, self-confidence, ambition and strength of character and that's the best explanation I can give for how a young child can sing like she does. What is also amazing is that her shy, quiet demeanor belies all of it.

Precisely, the fact that many of us consider Angelina a "child prodigy" does not necessarily refer to her vocal abilities. Her vocal tools, beyond her beautiful timbre and dark tones, which are natural to her, most are skills that she has worked very conscientiously, with many hours of dedication and that can be appreciated, in all their magnificent progression, across hundreds of videos, from 18 months of age ... to the present day. That, in itself, deserves special recognition, for the impact and gigantic evolution that she has managed to show, step by step, in front of the whole world. But what gives her that special category of musical GENIUS (like this, with bigger caps if possible), is her innate instinct to know how to interpret what songs that have touched her heart should sound like. That wonderful reinterpretation that her brain makes of her every time a song hits her, the amount of variations and approaches she is capable of achieving, until she manages to find the exact tone, the precise timbre, the balanced interpretation, without exaggerations, such as a 40-year-old professional would do it ... that is what Angelina Jordan Astar has been awarded with the laurels of genius, since she began to sing her legacy, at about 7 years old, more or less. Angelina has already cast her spell on millions around the world. She is now approaching her 16th birthday on January 10th and will be giving an online concert on December 23rd. More than a year ago she signed with Republic Records as their highest priority new artist but her family requested she be allowed as normal a childhood as possible so Republic has yet to fully promote her. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman, who has chosen to keep his life private. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age after listening to Whitney Houston on KZfaq. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet and married a Japanese man who passed away in 2019. Angelina speaks Norwegian, Farsi, English, Japanese and Swedish. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where she received vocal training starting around age 4. Angelina plays the piano, violin, guitar and flute and also paints. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. Angelina at age 6 and 7 did record a few songs in a recording studio, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 6 or 7 year old. Angelina is blessed with a deep voice with a beautiful rich tone and has always made her sound much older than her age. Many compare her voice to that of Amy Winehouse. Her voice is highly emotional which is very rare for a young girl and some people can’t accept that such a soulful voice can come from someone who has not had enough life experience. One vocal coach on KZfaq recently said, “If you have a song and want to have more emotion added to that song, have Angelina sing it.” At age 8, (please refer to replies by erik to a comment I made on JHTreacts video on 6/7/21 who provides proof Angelina had already turned 8) Angelina’s audition on NGT was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. The next performance on NGT was her cover of Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on KZfaq went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old. On June 27, 2018 Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. Angelina performed on America’s Got Talent The Champions which aired in January 2020. Yes, this has become a classic on its own. Here, Angelina, at 9 yrs 2 mos old, has captured the essence of the original song by Screamin' Jay Hawkins in 1956 in her arrangement. In the intro you can see her writing out and passing last-minute changes to the arrangement to a member of the band. They may have gone in that day and been taken aback by playing for a nine-year-old, but by the end of the day they were calling her, "The Boss." After auditioning for Norway's Got Talent at seven and winning it at eight, she was literally a professional by age 9! Now, almost 16, she has written 5 songs, sung two written for her, and covered about 135 other songs of 70 different artists. She is signed to Republic Records, just released a sound track for a motion picture film and will have a live virtual concert next week. She is the real deal.

She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talk with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a Doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Dear Mrs. Dengler, in another video a Gentleman from Scandinavia, who seems to be a physicist, or a scientist explained at length, why AJ can sing from deepest Voice to very high pitch. Not taking away her hard work and exercise, her genius, etc. Her swanlike neck in combination with her body portions allow for a slightly bigger larynx. The gentleman wrote, it occurs in natural, but very seldom. Some People say she has a range of 5 octaves. As I am not a specialist in music, I cant say yes or no. One had to take her really serious, also when she was a child. She has personality and is not joking. It looks disturbing, because she was complete so early. Her brilliance was clear since NGT.
