Me too but my first abusive husband made sure I couldn't have children...it's been over 25 years now and I still fight the memories but I'm finally with a great man who is doing his best to understand PTSD and he is doing good 😊

Baby girl, I was a man who beat me for 25 years. I protected my children for all of those years. Always became last one day he called the police and said I beat him to throw me out of the house because I was disabled and I was not able to meet his needs, I found a man who was good kind and caring. I am thankful for him but I will never ever be that little abused mouse that I was. I’m so glad that you got out of it. God bless you.

How do yall get with multiple abusive men? Yall just don’t learn to stop fucking with ass holes? They’re pieces of shit absolutely but where’s the accountability. If your kids came first maybe you’d have made better decisions? Sounds like you kept making bad choices. Guilty pleasures? Where’s the accountability for your choices?

My momma and I took beating from my dad drunk or sober. I usually tried to get between him and my mom and brothers, that’s what I don’t miss of the 70’s and 80’s.

If everyone in town hadn't ignored the situation, it may not have had to come to this... There is a movie ("A Cry For Help) about Tracey Thurman where in 1984 Torrington CT police, in spite of a restraining order, did not respond to her call for help for 20 minutes and then officers actually stood and watched as her husband almost beat her to death, stabbed her 13 times, slashed her throat, and jumped full weight on her neck leaving her partially paralyzed. Many police departments back then did not consider it their business to intervene in a "argument" between a husband and wife and too many people still today just shut their eyes.

Excellent Reaction!! As a Mom of three, not even a thought would pass thru my mind, no hesitation. Which is like you I can't understand the thinking of some of this world. I do believe with the situation you were talking about with the three children occurred in my state Ohio, can't watch the news to much anymore it hits too hard, with all the young children were losing. Cuts deep Independence Day, and Martina's stunning vocals as always. "Concrete Angel" is another message needing heard again. Peace

So many radio stations, especially in the south, refused to play this song because it talked about DV and killing your abuser. In "certain areas," they like to pretend it's "a family matter" and/or that it isn't an absolute epidemic. One DJ near my hometown refused to play it and ranted about how inappropriate it was... and guess who ended up going to prison for nearly killing his wife not much later. There's a reason why people refused to play it, and it wasn't anything good.

It's a mum thing. You do what you have to for your kids, and if that means you die with him, then you go to protect your babies. I cover a lot of her music, and it's all very emotional and very...thought provoking music. It's not all sad, she has some happy songs in there, too. But she wasn't afraid to tackle the hard issues when other people wouldn't, and that was important.

I read that Martina is so committed to her craft/songs, she actually got burned by heat of that house fire, but kept on singing. God bless her! My father was alcoholic too but he wasn't physically abusive. It was his mouth, which words can sometimes cut deeper than a bruise. I can remember at 8 yo, standing between my parents during a verbal altercation as I was trying to move my mother away from daddy per her protecting me by moving ME to another room. It worked. That gave daddy time to sit in his chair and pass out before mama got back in room. I grew up to be a social worker. Go figure. But I'd beg my supervisor not to give me the alcohol abuse cases involving kids. It was too close. I'd gone thru several years of counseling to try to get rid of the trash in my head and heart but enough remained to where I'd get FURIOUS with those cases and couldn't keep my calm. I knew my limits. I'd gladly work 3 child welfare cases with regular problems versus 1 alcohol case. I thought, in college, that I wanted to work with the families of alcoholics but during 1st job interview, we walked past a meeting of alcoholics, and several in circle were court ordered there. They looked smug and bored and it was obvious they didn't want help, they were just biding their time. My memories flooded me and I got so mad, if I'd had a baseball bat, I would have done some damage that day! Here I was, a 103 pound girl, with enough fury in me to take on at least 3 men! So I diverted my social work skills into a different direction and worked with kids but specialized in elder abuse/neglect. Did that for 25 years. Miss my friends, but don't miss that job. Thank you Skeez for your great reaction! May God bless you always!❤❤🎉🎉

Your remarks here made me tear up. I lost my sweet daddy when I was 5yrs old, but my mom was also a good mom to my sis & me. So I feel so bad for anyone who had a childhood made unhappy by a parent. God bless you for all the good work you have done for people who needed you! I hate liquor in any form since I've heard of the terrible harm it does to the innocents in our lives.

Martina McBride, what a singer! And you hear every word she sings and she put so much feeling into it. I've heard this song so many times and it affects me the same way every time. It's a bitter truth that people go through this every day somewhere, someone is hurting or has been tragically killed through domestic violence😢

Martina is and always will be one of my favorite country stars... I grew up listening to Country music as it was all my Momma listened to. I also grew up loving to sing along and developed a pretty good voice and my Momma always bugged me to sing for her but I was so shy and self conscious about it. Unfortunately we are estranged now and man do I wish I could just sing to her one more time. Thank You for reacting to all music and the way you describe the songs and how they jit you with out any bias or anything is so refreshing! Keep it up ❤

All people who grew up in an abusive family remember it. I remember when I was 12. My drunk father came close to killing our family with a shot gun. He was so drunk that I was able to take it away from him and I really wanted to unalive him. My mom stopped me but she had all of the guns removed from the house. I don't know if my younger sister remembers it or not. Things like this stay with you.

She shouldn't have killed herself though, she should have grabbed her daughter and ran for the hills. I had to do this a few times so I know it can be done, there's no reason to stay and take it, and there's no reason to kill yourself and leave your child without a mother!

@@jacquielousbookqueue I do judge because I know with a will there is a way, it wasn't easy for me and my two small children either but it was possible, you just have to go far enough fast enough!
