I'm way older than you were when you started nano, but I feel the same about people who vlog nanowrimo. It's keeping me motivated and it's reminding me that there's a community behind it. So thank you for ebing a part of that with your videos!

Congrats! I'm getting close, just passed the 42,000 mark today! Also, for those who can't drink alcohol, sparkling apple cider or sparking pear which comes in the Champaign bottles is a delicious substitute :) This inspired me to celebrate NaNo with my husband in this way.

Woo-hoo! That is awesome. I've been doing NaNo since 2014 and have only won three times, I think. So, it's great to hear that this is your tenth time winning. It makes me work just a little bit harder. Also, I didn't care for champaign when I was your age either so, next time add some orange juice and make a mimosa, it tastes better.

Woohoo! I'm at 20k :) Your Ruler of the Stars video got me back into writing in 2020, so I guess I'm indebted to those 2014 booktubers too!

My question for the q&a vid would be how do you personally outline? I'm 100% a pantser when I write but recently have been struggling to keep my ideas organized without a formal outline, but also find formal outlines to be too rigid for my writing style. I've tried looking up templates and such and just get so overwhelmed by them but really want to have an outline so I actually finish something for once instead of getting lost and giving up.

Congrats! I've been really enjoying your Nano vlogs! I'm not doing Nano (I'm a really slow writer and so the pace just doesn't work for me) but Nano time always gets me super hyped to keep working on current projects. My project this year is a historical fantasy novel inspired by isekai manga. Congrats again!!

I am so glad to hear that you’ll continue vlogging even now that you're finished with NaNoWriMo! Your videos have really helped me get excited to write everyday!❤ I would really love to know, when you're far behind on a NaNoWriMo, how do you push through? This is my first NaNoWriMo and just like you I didn't have a job this month so I was thinking that I was going to write full time. Due to this I thought that maybe I would push myself a little extra and try to write around 80 000 words. The thing is that a few jobs actually did show up for me (I work as a freelance video editor for a few publishing houses) which meant that I had less time to write than I expected. I have written a lot (around 30 000 words) and I don’t think that I´ll have any trouble reaching the 50 000 word goal, but I feel as if I have lost a lot of motivation since I probably won't be able to reach my other goal (unless I do like several 10 k days). I don't know if you, or anyone else for that matter, will read this but I just felt like I had to tell someone. I just feel like the biggest failure right now.

Congrats 🥂! Glad to hear you will still be posting, your videos have been helping me stay motivated. I’ve only won Nanowrimo once in 2019 and attempted every year after but would give up after a day or two so thank for the videos lol.

Congratulations! Finishing NaNoWriMo in half the time is super impressive. I'm a little ahead for NaNoWriMo, but only by a few thousand, and I'm kind of struggling with it while also doing school. I'm in the stage of editing three different books and don't want another one, so instead of following the tradition of doing another novel for November, I decided to write short stories or excerpts from my other books to catch up. For the Q&A, are there any themes that show up across different books you write, whether it's intentional or not?

Hey congrats on winning! I've been checking the NaNoWriMo site randomly and I was watching your word count go up and knew that you would complete almost immediately. I haven't had the opportunity to write today, literally the only day so far, and I'm already panicking about falling behind, even though I'm way ahead still lol. I wanted to ask for the Q&A just about your idea process, are you constantly having ideas for potential new stories? How do you focus on just one, and do you ever lose motivation to work on a specific story?

What do you do when your brain just shouts at you the entire time you’re writing that you’ll never finish your book? This happens to me all the time and it gets super overwhelming.
@Sokolva

Hope you don't mind other writers pitching in to give their thoughts. I think that voice gets quieter once you finish your first book, no matter how insane and wild and wonky the first draft is. Its a kind of confidence boost you get from experience, even as the paths you walk up the mountain get more and more difficult. If you've ever done mountaineering and intense hiking, when you first stand at the base of a mountain range you are going to hike to the top of and down from within a day, you think its impossible and that you will only make it part of the way. But then you keep hiking, often with a group to encourage you, and you find the village and the paths below dropping further and further behind you. Then, there's a point when you are at the peak--the climax of your book, the highest point. You can see everything sprawling below you. Lakes, an entire ridge of mountains circling like a crown all around you, birds circling below, the clouds that you passed on your way up, drifting past below your feet. And you begin your descent. Its faster than the climb, but hard because you are tired, and at any wrong step you can fall or twist your ankle on the steep rocks, so you pay close attention. And you make it back at last when night is falling to the town below to rest. Somehow, impossibly, you and everyone else who made it up with you did it within a day. It was possible, going so incredibly high, so quickly. Possible, and difficult, and you can get better at it. Novel writing is the same way. Your voice of disbelief is a self-defense mechanism, protecting you from doing something that might make you fail yourself, an effort that extends you far beyond your comfort zone. Keep pushing past that comfort zone. Look back, and see how far you've come, building the mountain word by word, walking the path of your own story. Savor the journey, it is the greatest reward we writers get. Then descend, and finish the journey. Messy as the journey is, you have to make it home, before you realize that you are truly capable of this. Yes, there will likely always be voices of doubt in your head of some kind or another, and some projects will challenge you uniquely in ways that make you use skills you wouldn't have developed if you hadn't climbed all those other mountains for so long. But you will truly believe you CAN write a book, once you prove to yourself that you can. And you can.

@@SokolvaI really appreciate your reply, it definitely is new territory for me and I’ve noticed every chapter I’ve written has filled me with a sense of pride. I think the most challenging part is sitting down to write when you have a million plans and they haven’t been executed yet. It’s a difficult journey but along the way it’s getting easier and is just plain fun. I hope your writing is going well and good luck 🍀
