IBM ThinkCenter Laptop: How to Replace BIOS Battery

Learn how you can replace the BIOS battery on the IBM ThinkCenter laptop. If your laptop is displaying the error set date and time when booting up the computer, then it is likely the battery is flat. So it is time to change a new one. See the video on how you can change it. This also works for model T40, T41, T43, T44 and other similar models.

Thinkpad R50E owner here. Some of the screws are numbered, some are not, and the ones that are not, they are of different size, to just place them in a position that you took them out, it's gonna help you later. I wasn't able to fully detach the keyboard and the plastics, but I was able to lift it up from the bottom side so that I could take the old CMOS out, and put the new one in. Then screwed everything back in place, the keyboard still works, and I'll give you an update as to if the new CMOS from Ebay works.

Powered it up today, no CMOS date and time errors anymore! Works brilliantly. But it's a shame that the CMOS is so buried, saw a video on another Thinkpad and it had a CMOS in the battery slot or something. Like you just take the battery out and there it is, no need to unscrew anything. Still, this was easy to follow, glad it worked.

Use una hoja blanca blanca para los tornillos ... y trace una linea para cada fila de tornillos asi no confunde donde deben ir al ensamblar nuevamente

Use a normal 3 volt lithium battery, make use the polarity is right and you have a good contact, Use tape and a small rubber band around it.

Each screw hole is labelled with its corresponding screw size (1 to 4, 4 being the longest) so you can't mix them up.

Or u can do also chiper and that same - no buy new all part witch cables - get old open the protect foil change to the new CR2032 battery and again witch that same foil old foild it and of corse need to hold old foil use some tape to hold (small part use on 1 side to hold foil on please ) then connect to laptop and END

ITJungles, It's the same way and the same battery for X61, T43 and T60? Any cheap generic battery will suffice or are there some better than others?

my suggestion, put the screws on a white paper so you see them better and do not lose ... and count them

buenos dias chicos, reemplace la bateria pero ahora cuando quiero encender la pc. El ventilador se mueve y se apaga pero no enciende. Apreto F1 para entrar al BIOS y no hace nada. Me podrian ayudar?. Que hago?

The battery is 3V, you can use any battery with 3V that is small enough!

Monica Cuartas no thats the administrator password thats the most hard password to erase.. you will not do nothing whit remove the batery what you need to do is erase or confuse the eprom memory which is the place where that key password is kerp it.. becasue evene you dont have batery the key will remain there i have the same problem i have a thinkpad t40

@@cezarpo Hi Monica, this post is a little old, just my two cents;.. A few years ago I unlocked a T26 Thinkpad with the administrator password, .. I identified the EPROM chip where the password is stored, it is a SMD EPROM chip so ordered a blank brand new, and had to use the heat soldering gun that replace it. Also the password is married to the hard drive controller plate, in that way it locks the hdd also, it mirrors - compares the password between the EPROM chip and the hdd for higher level security.. So I also had to discard the old small in GBs Hard drive with the password,. Smoth and good quality my vintage T26 Thinkpad, I still enjoy using it. Cheers and good luck. Hola Mónica, hace tiempo yo le quité ese password a un Thinkpad. Primero ordené el EPROM-bios chip correcto, lo soles con antorcha de calor puesto que es una miniatura y el password del administrador se casa también a la placa de control integrada en el disco duro para compararla así con la del chip, remplace el disco duro con otro y con más GBs. Son tremenda calidad ésos laptops, suerte...

Monica Cuartas pudiste hacer algo? La clave que queres sacar es la eprom chip ahi dentro esta la contraseña pero tenes que intentar leer ese chip yo hice un lector.. pero no me arroja nada o lo hice mal.. ese chip guarda la clave del bios que es el candado que vos te aparece arriba lo se porque busque por todo internet y termine en este foro... commodoreman.wordpress.com/2014/07/10/eliminar-la-password-de-la-bios-de-un-ibm-thinkpad-t42/ Si te sirve mira y date cuenta porque..
