We must be among the few that appreciate the water landscaping in front of the Mirage. That's one of the things I'll miss the most. In the concrete jungle that is along Las Vegas Blvd., the oasis of waterfalls and palm trees was such a welcome sight and very relaxing. On many occasions I would just stop along the railings and just let my mind decompress watching and listening to the waterfalls. The only thing comparable to it is the waterfall in front of Wynn which isn't nearly as expansive.

Feel exactly like you. The Mirage is my favorite hotel. Went to Vegas in December of 1989. It was my second trip to Vegas. I was in Junior High. Still have fond memories of that property. It still is awesome but use to be super awesome until MGM had financial issues with City Center and started neglecting all their properties. Before MGM started being cheap the whole lagoon use to light on fire when the volcano blew. it simulated a river of lava where the water cascades down from the volcano. Sad thing is all MGM had to do was appropriately maintain that property and it would have been awesome forever. These days there is nothing special or themed about the new hotels. Places like Aria, Resorts World and Fontain Bleu, while nice, seem similar to a large Hilton or Marriot, but with a casino, that you could find in any major city. When Steve ran Mirage Resorts the service at all those Mirage Resorts properties, Mirage, Treasure Island, Golden Nugget, Bellagio, was second to none. I miss the Mirage Resorts days and will miss the Mirage for sure. It's what inspired me to pursue a Business Major in college. Feel like with Mirage going away a chapter in my life is closing. Farewell Mirage. You will be missed. Sure Hard Rock is coming but it won't be the same, and you can get a Hard Rock in other cities.

The water fountains in front of the Bellagio's days are numbered. No water shortage for them however since they sit upon vast water rights from when it was the old Dune's resort and golf course. I see that five acres that costs a lot of money to maintain changing into an asset that makes $$$. More shopping, more gambling, another CVS, that sort of development on that five acres of water.

This one hurts! I hate to see any Vegas property pass by, but this one as I said really hurts. From the iconic volcano in front to the scenic peaceful stroll through rain forest, and waterfalls, no other hotel calmed the soul, while being in such a hectic environment.

I was here for the grand opening of the Mirage. I had never seen anything like it. I thought I had died and gone to heaven! Even saw Steve Wynn walking around with his entourage.... I remember calling my husband who couldn't go with me and telling him that I had just stepped into paradise! The tropical entrance, the shark tank, the volcano, the AMAZING pool with water falls, the exotic zoo and don't forget about the dolphins! I could not believe it. Vegas had never had anything like it before. What was to follow with other mega resorts was amazing but the Mirage will always be the one that started it all and I doubt I will ever get that feeling again!

The Mirage is an Icon, It's the start of an era and it's going to be the end of another. Yes the economy is trending down, but, the inflated prices, the extremely high Resort fees ( witch should not exist in the first place) where driven by the post pandemic boom. Yes there where record earnings , record visitation, but it all will hit a wall. That said, Hard Rock is preparing for what happened when they imploded the Stardust, planed and started the Echelon place project (Boyd Gaming) and had to shut it down, giving way years later to Resorts World. I hope greedy corporate big wigs learn and start doing the right thing, bringing back the era of the bargain, service laden, great atmosphere for all, Vegas that attracts everybody, not just Whales. Thank you very much for your video Steven, you're great!

I am not a financial advisor and can not see the econmy three years from now. My own personal econmy is based on my retirement savings and what I can afford and more important willing to spend. Vegas is in my rear view mirror. I got old and my living expenses like property taxes, medical and insurance have taken over my entertainment wants and needs. I was always a low roller and Vegas has moved on which is fine. Vegas exists for people that want a good time and have the resources to spend for a good time. I had my fun and its time to move on.

I first moved to Vegas in 1976 and watched it re-invent itself several times over the years. Many properties have fallen. The Landmark, Frontier, Riviera, Stardust, Sands, Dunes, El Rancho, and so on. Now the Trop and Mirage. It's just the way Vegas rolls. At least there will be a new hotel casino property on the Mirage site unlike the Trop which is going down for a baseball stadium which is one of silliest moves in Vegas history. A lot of people have lost their jobs during these transitions and it's a risk you just learn to live with. It's nice to see long time Mirage employees getting rewarded. Well the local LV economy does go through some interesting peaks & valleys. They are transforming from a middle class destination to a higher end (less characterized) destination. As people’s financial situation becomes increasingly tight they will travel less & this includes the Vegas regulars that come annually or several times per year. They have been jacking up prices to ridiculous levels for the simplest of meals, services, rooms, etc. I think some of it will offset but it’s pushing lower end properties and visitors out and in some cases permanently. Not the greatest look in my opinion. Corporate greed at work and we get whatever is left.

Old news. It is being closed for a complete renovation of a resort that opened in 1989. So, I would imagine that literally every part of the complex will receive a gut renovation to bring it up to current standards. The ugly gold glazing will change to blue, but beyond that, probably new plumbing, HVAC, elevators, everything and the addition of the new horribly TACKY Guitar tower and the expansion to the front sidewalk. IT will be overbearing visually in my opinion. Closing for nearly three years and reopening into the future will be difficult to gauge as no one can predict what the economy will bring in three years time. If there is a recession between now and then, expect an empty property Mid Strip for the next decade. All this has zero effect on my life but it sucks to have an empty hole on that part of the Strip.

From a risk management perspective (as well as time for completion)t it makes sense to completely close for new construction and renovations. There is a certain synergy to the strip and the proposed giant guitar hotel just seems totally out of place for this location. Payouts are only a windfall if people are able to immediately transition to another property. IMO employees would benefit more if they continued to be paid on the regular payroll cycle until they reached the max payout.

Too bad. The Mirage was iconic. I’m not surprised they’re doing this though. Keeping it open during that kind of renovation seemed strange to me.

In the 90s, my Uncle religously vacationed at the Mirage. He played Blackjack one night with Bruce Willis and Demi Moore when she was bald for her GI Jane role and he said she was smoking hot even with no hair.

Rain Man was filmed at Caesars Palace, not the Mirage. The Mirage was, however, featured in National Lampoon's Vegas Vacation and DreamWorks short-lived primetime animated series Father of the Pride.

We will miss the Mirage so much. Loved that place. One of the reasons I continued to visit Vegas. So glad to have seen Beatles Love. Best show in Vegas. Met Seigfried shortly after Roy passed away while walking through the animal habitat. So many memories! But wow, how awful for the employees. I can't even imagine.

It is going to take 3 years because that is how long recall rights are for former employees. They will reopen probably a week after the 3 year mark so they will not be forced to take on all the older and possibly undesirable people who may not fit into their new image.

I've worked at the Mirage for 13 years at the Beatles Love show. Really sad about everything going on. I was thinking maybe they're going to implode the whole place, and that's why it's closing for three years. I know all the models and pictures of the new property include the original Mirage hotel tower. But I think that would've scared a lot of employees into thinking the hotel was being demolished if the tower was missing. But now that the word is out, Hard Rock can do whatever they want to the property. That's just my thoughts.

With the union workers getting $2,000 per year of service at severance pay, this is going to really strengthen the union in Las Vegas with hotel workers knowing that if the hotel were to close or be sold that the union has their back. I bet the people who decided not to join the union are kicking themselves over this because they didn't want to pay an extra $10 a month in dues

I loved the Mirage. It was the first mega-resort in Vegas in 1989. It was still quite nice in 2017 and maybe the best value on the Strip. I also liked the tropical scent pumped into the lobby and casino and the indoor "rainforest" full of palms and plants.

The original hard rock hotel in vegas early on thrived mostly because it appealed to a young hip crowd who enjoyed the nightl club scene .. hard rock provided this with a nightclub on there property just like the palms hotel back in the day..As soon as some of the strip properties put in night clubs on there properties hard rock and palms started being shells of themselves..

More than half of the staff at The Mirage in Las Vegas are represented by the Culinary Workers Union. The union and the Bartenders Union have represented around 1,700 hospitality workers at the casino. In December 2023, the Culinary Union announced a tentative agreement with The Mirage for a new five-year contract for over 1,700 hospitality workers. The union said the contract will ensure workers are protected, even as the property closes for three years.

I think it's a huge mistake to mess with an established, beautiful property. My major concern is the way they ran the other Vegas property they had. Most of their places are super corporate or run down. I would have loved to see it refreshed to a Wynn level, the same theme, maybe a tower, etc. Canning the employees wasn't wise, considering ultimately they are who make a place what it is, I hope they'll be OK, money lasts so long and then.....as for the Vegas economy, yea it's gonna take a hit but I think with all the recent expansions and new stadiums etc it'll be alright, Vegas and Reno have always made it.

I have always loved the Mirage. Vegas has moved away from what it used to be into what it is now. When I first started going to Vegas in 1994 it was gaming, cheap great food and shows. It has been moving toward a much younger crowd with a focus on massive night clubs and less focus on the gamblers. Myself being an older person now goes to Biloxi instead of Vegas. Biloxi feels to me like old Vegas. Vegas to me feels like spring break. My 2 cents. 😢

A number of ground tests outside the Mirage has shown that it isn’t suitable to build the guitar on, so the closure may be due to having to pull down the existing building or part of it, to get the guitar building placed somewhere on the property.

You know how all buildings are becoming indistinguishable boxes? Like you cannot tell a Wendy’s from a McDonald’s from a Starbucks unless you see the sign? I feel like that’s the feel of Vegas lately… nothing truly distinguishable. Basic rooms for sure feel the same, no themes. Upscale rooms, even at a pricey casino like Bellagio need some TLC. When I was young I couldn’t wait to be old enough to stay at Treasure Island but by the time I made it the pirate show was no more and the rooms were drab like I could be anywhere in America. It’s boring. I’ve stayed at the mirage once since the purchase by hard rock and I saw it was dated but it had so much potential. It’s truly such a beautiful property.

Hard Rock branding is outdated and a little tacky. There’s already several Hard Rock resorts and restaurants worldwide. The new Hard Rock LV will not be a must visit destination, especially when Resorts World is just down the street. I would rather see a Nature and Native American themed resort. Maybe convert the tropical garden to lush forest and mangrove trees with lagoons.
