Right. The kibbe subreddit is not helpful at all because everyone interprets the descriptions differently. Looking at the same photo, one person will say "the shoulders are blunt" while another person claims "the shoulders are sharp." It should be more objective but it's really very subjective.

@@raquel5401 try staying within your category then. if you fit soft natural criteria but you are tall you are a curvy flamboyant natural. Tall curvy women are often misplaced in the soft dramatic category because people forget that flamboyant naturals come in curvy too. Look at Jennifer Lawrence for reference. I wish you had more examples of what these body types look like on bigger plus size bodies because I've always kind of teetered on the edge and it's hard to see myself in really any of these body types because my I tend to have softer shoulders and softer everything but I'm also on the taller side so the romantic body type looks the most similar to me but I'm like five six pushing seven so I'm like a little confused on exactly where I would land
@purrgundy
@purrgundy 2 жыл бұрын
The key is to reduce the "Kibbe types" to their core principles. Look at your bone structure. Which do you think is dominant: Verticality? Width? Balance? Petiteness? If you were to draw how fabric falls on your body, how would it look? Would it stretch around your shoulders? Drape around the hips? Drape out the bust? Or would it fall straight from your shoulders to your feet?

I wonder whether the height limitations on the Kibbe types need to be updated, because on average, people are taller now than in previous decades. Because of my 5'9" height, most of the categories are automatically ruled out. Yet when I took the test, Dramatic Classic was the closest to my score--except that I'm too tall. I don't feel like many of the A answers describe me (I'm not that thin) or many of the Bs either (I'm not that wide). Maybe I just need a pair of more objective eyes, haha.

In the first round I was placed as a soft classic, but I'm 5'7" almost (halfway between 5'6" & 5'"7), so that placed me in the dramatic classic and that didn't look right at all based off of the images and description given. The second time through my answers were skewed with C5, B4, D3, E3 and I couldn't place myself at all. Your explanation along with the examples you provided (alongside another outside viewpoint from a friend) I've been placed as a dramatic classic for certain. I have a pixie kind of look. I’ve always looked better with medium to short hair. I’m 5’2 and 90lbs-115lbs (due to ED it varies), but no matter how thin I am I don’t really look under weight. I’m kinda naturally big boned while also very petite. I feel like I’m fairly sharp, my shoulders seem a little wide and when I’m at a healthy weight I’m a curvy petite (like 35-26-35). My limbs are pretty small. My torso and legs both seem pretty short with how I’m built. Even when I am health my hips are very bony and you can always see at least some of my rib cage on my chest. So I’m guessing I’m probably a gamine or a flamboyant gamine. Hey! Found you via a tiktok about dressing for ethereal essence.... Those clothes speak to my soul! Where does the ethereal come in this landscape of body types? Thank you! Looking forward to more videos from you!

Ethereal essence is part of Kitchener’s system. Originated sequentially prior to Kibbe’s system but Kibbe chose to omit the Ethereal and Ingenue from his system, leaving some of us stranded. I’m very dominantly an Ethereal. According to Kibbe, it doesn’t have a place in his system. He considers height to be a yang feature, and so someone long and sinewy yet all yin makes no sense to him. All yin would be short and delicate, not a long visual line and delicate. The major differences would be that an Ethereal is delicate in bone structure and overall soft in appearance, like a Romantic… with curves (unlike the straighter silhouette of Dramatics)… with height or long visual line. In this way, some perceive it as the midway point between Romantics and Dramatics. They have a delicateness and softness uncharacteristic of Dramatics, and a long line uncharacteristic of Romantics. They don’t really fit anywhere at all in Kibbe’s system. Which is why I was so lost with Kibbe. The difference in style advice is also palpable. Romantics suit waist emphasis, short lines (like midi-length skirts and dresses, 3/4 sleeves, cropped pants etc)… mid-sized rounded prints like florals, and light to mid-tone colours in light-weight fabrics. Ethereals are considered even more yin according to Kitchener, falling at the extreme yin end of his spectrum. Fabrics that are so lightweight they would fly away in the wind. Colours so light they have almost no contrast with your natural skin tone (meaning if dark-skinned, go by low contrast with your skin colour). Oversized, abstract prints rather than solid florals, yet still soft-edged rather than sharp or geometric. And NO waist emphasis. This is the thing that had me baffled. It’s the biggest style recommendation for Romantics and it was ALL WRONG for me lol. A skirt waistband or a demarcation with a belt, or even colour blocking works for Romantics and does NOT work for Ethereals. They need LONG visual line… like ankle length (not midi or cropped)… and monochromatic, low contrast, super pale colour schemes. One piece from head to toe works best, like a flowing dress. To elongate one part of the body (upper or lower), a dropped waist or an empire waist is best, not the natural waistline. Something that tapers at the waist rather than hangs (which reads more Natural), but doesn’t demarcate at the waist. Overall lighter fabric weight, lighter colours, more delicate florals and laces, ombré effects, more abstract prints and longer line everything (including accessories, hair, jewellery etc). Hope this helps!!! 💝😇😘

I have had my essences done by John Kitchner and I’m the “Ethereal” with a touch of the others. I have a soft body with curves , soft features in my face but im almost 5’ 11’ so im confused on what body type I would fit in according to the kobe body types. I don’t see one that would match a tall ethereal?

This system seems to exclude a particular group of body shapes.. depending on context I can fit both very yin and yang features, but I am certainly not a gamine. I can fit in between 2 and 5 different archetypes, which is hella confusing lol

Isn't Beyonce a Kibbe certified Romantic but shes 5'7? I'm confused about that. P.S. for those who think she's lying about her height she's not because Kelly Rowland and Michelle are both 5'8 and 5'9 respectively and we can see that Bey is only a little shorter than them; pictures with other celebrities also illustrate that she is that height.
@elliejeanroyden
@elliejeanroyden 2 жыл бұрын
Kibbe believes she is lying about her height for whatever reason and has therefore classified her as R. Celebrities have lots of tricks to make themselves look taller etc. If she is 5"7 then she would be Soft Dramatic :)
@BreeBree0530
@BreeBree0530 2 жыл бұрын
@@elliejeanroyden I definitely agree with the Soft Dramatic analysis. Also, as a tall woman, I dont see why female celebs that aren't auditioning to be models would care to be taller than their actual heights. Always found it quite strange that people think they lie about such a thing or that they do lie if thats the actual case
@dahliaherrod4301

I actually feel like Beyonce is the perfect example of what it means to be tall versus look tall. Just because she's 5'7 doesn't mean that her proportions reflect that height.
@BreeBree0530
@BreeBree0530 2 жыл бұрын
@@dahliaherrod4301 Kibbe uses height, Romantics can't be taller than 5'5 according to him. This isn't a case where the styling system stated that vertical is whats to be used as opposed to actual height so my opinion doesn't change.

@@marissahartshorn7049 I feel exactly the same way - although i respect the intentions behind these kind of videos I’m majorly distrustful of trying to “categorise” your body from a limited series of categories made my some random person, regardless of how much they claim to understand “body types” - especially when everyone’s bodies are so so different! Style tips are well and good but when they start implicating that your body has to look a certain way for you to confidently wear certain things I think it’s worth trying to maintain some separation from this mentality (especially as someone who’s struggled with understanding my body for most of my life)
