Before buying this ktm tpi i was really happy with my exc300 carb. First problem with TPI happened when the engine started going in reverse it happens when i ride bike in very low RPM. Another problem appeared after about 5 hours, 2 stroke oil tank cracked. I thought it would all be great when do updating mapping, but i was wrong ! Bike is sometimes bogging in long uphills and its very easy to overheat with cooling fan turned on what is very strange. I do not say it's a bad bike , it can be very nice ridden in fast terrain and in hard enduro also. And its working good, but its too much sensitive with a lot of sensors. If the engine is overheated, it starts to bogging and cutting power...

True. I own 250 tpi 2018 model and I don't have any of this issues, but I saw a lot of people who has.. It's runs very good but there are so many things to control before starting at least.. I bought KTM TPI to avoid this shit with carb jetting and oil mixing.. But now I'm thinking about - I'll spend less time to jetting the carb instead of checking all systems before I'm going to ride... KTM have to do something with that.. if not - all who loved ktm(like me) will buy Beta or sherco.. and it's will be good choose!

I ride Snowmobiles and Dirt Bikes. Fuel injection is the way to go, it has revolutionized the snowmobile industry, the dirt bikes are just trying to catch up. If you ride Trials, the Vertigo has it figured out. KTM will get there, it might just take them a couple years to get it there. This is KTM's usual thing, the first couple years you get to be their ginny pig to test their new ideas, then they work out the bugs and it is great again.

Not trying to pile on here, but my son's 2020 KTM xcw 250 TPI lost the entire motor at 33 hours. He and I ride together and not once has he overheated that bike. We noticed it not wanting to idle at around 25 hours, we took it in for the new mapping and it only got worse. Had the dealer tear it down only to tell us it looked like a motor with 233 hours not 33 hours on it. Piston looked just like these in the vid. Plug looked as tho it had been running lean to me but that had to be since I last read it. KTM covered parts but not labor. I have a 2020 Husky TE250i with a few less hours, wondering if we made mistakes in buying TPI bikes.

Others had bad batteries...Who holds a bike on the rev limiter that is super leaned out? oh almost all of those with a bad piston..i have 3 riders in our group with tpi 300s. Hi Dirtbike Rider, In my Opinion, All Emission Compliant two-stroke engines can only be compliant at the expense of sufficient lubrication to the engine!! Overheating and premature failures are due to the very lean mixtures of fuel and oil required for Emissions Compliance. Engine remapping fixes the problem however "remapping" makes the engine Non Emission Compliant! Previous to the Compliance requirements these same engines were very well sorted, low maintenance and reliable!! regards Edventure 547

@@TheDirtbikeRideryes if its adjusted from factory to run specific ratio that means the injectors are not capable of transferring greater flow of fluids and they get clogged, just like running too rich mixture in carburetor, its also designed to separate fluid drops to evaporate easier and it cant do that with more fuel and even harder with more oil, but vapors arent comparable to fuids in capability of reducing friction so that may be one cause of excessive engine wear and I think the other may be load adjusted fluid delivery because there are so many factors to calculate in

My brother has often rode the IT in the last 20 years. I have never had any trouble with my 1997 KTM. I was thinking about getting a new bike, but I don't like the $12,000 price tag and,I don't like the looks of them. I also discovered that these $12,000 bikes are junk and not the quality of my 1997 KTM. I haven’t had any issues with my bike yet. I wish there was more info with the problems in this video so we could get some understanding of the potential failure points and how it happened. I know the first run of TPIs had bad oil tanks but that’s fixed for any bike that wasn’t bought when it was first released. For the piston scuffing vids I wonder what hours and it that was with the oil pump changed every 80hours or not. Looks like some of the bikes are modified? I wonder what mods and if it was a negative reaction to a mod. Some of the overheating maybe a bad thermostat? That can happen on any bike. I ride my tpi (with aux fan) on 115+ degree days sometimes and I haven’t had anymore overheating issues than I would on any other bike. I wish they would make a better oil filler cap. That leaks a few drops of oil every time you drop the bike. It’s more of a nuisance than anything.

Ktm become a bike for a rich guys or a professionals only. If you don't have official dealer in your country - you in crap because you have to read errors... and also update software(mapping) at least twice a year. Before you going to ride you can check next: 1. Oil pump works well: - check connectors(all connected, no bubbles in there); - just kick a kickstart few times lightly with your hand(you will grab some oil to the top so you will no get damage piston and cylinder, also you will hear the noise of pump working); 2. Update TPI software(,maps) at least twice a year(ktm will give a fuck on you if you come to them with broken cylinder... First what they ask you - do you updated maps with a last update #####?); 3. Maybe I'm doing something bad, but fuel injection run bike too lean.. so I still mixing some oil to the gas.. something about 40 grams for one tank of fuel.. 100 hours - like a new, no any bugs, lags and so on. No issues with starting, no problems on high and low rpms.. 4. Look carefully on oil which you use in oil tank (motul 800 2stroke oil will kill your bike - it usable only for premix in the gas). If you have no motorex in your country, use other oil motul 700 for example, oils for snow bikes works well also. 5. Clean and reoil your air filter more often(carb can manage with some sand, injector - not); 6. Replace mini filters in the fuel connector often, I'm doing it every 10 hours(cross guys doing that every oil change ( every 7-8 hours)); 7. Replace fuel filters in the fuel pump, at least every 80 hours(I'm doing it every 60 hours) don't buy ktm shit kits which cost 100$ - just get Mahle KL97 for 5$ and replace it.; 8. Also will be good to buy some sock for the fuel tank, you can bring some trash in to the tank whn you refuiling.

I have 19 tx300 carbureted. The manual say to mix fuel oil mixture at 60:1. That is way to lean. I always run like 30-40:1. From what I hear. With TPI you can't adjust your ratio. It is set at 60:1. In my opinion that is close to twice as lean as it should be. If I had tpi I would still premix the fuel to compensate for lean oil delivery. So if I had tpi and premixed 60:1 before I filled the tank. The bike would mix my 60:1 ratio at its preset 60:1 ratio, resulting in a 30:1 mixture on intake stroke. You can see I dont trust 60:1 Thank you for sharing this.

A few people asked me to watch this video and chime in, so I'm doing it. For the record, I an not looking to start anything, and I will likely not look back onto this thread, so if I don't respond to you, it's likely that it's just that I will never see your comment. I have now owned/bought 4 of these bikes (3 KTMs and 1 Husky) and tested a 5th from Husky that was on loan. They have run better than any other 2 stroke I've ridden and I haven't had a single problem (other than when I tried to use a different spark plug at someone's recommendation). In full disclosure, I haven't yet put more than 20 hours on any of them, but I have put nearly 100 hours on them cumulatively. Time will tell how far that goes, but I'm not any more worried about these bikes than any other bike. Last weekend, I just had my Honda motor lock up on me and was dragged back to the truck with what??? The KTM 300 TPI dragged my honda back to the truck :) Does that mean Honda sucks? No it doesn't. Things happen. The 2019 300 XC-W TPI is the best 300 I've even been around. Just adding my 2 cents. Yes, weird things happen, and nothing is perfect. I've seen bikes that don't run right and often times there is a simple solution to it that has little to do with the actual engine or fuel system. Sometimes fuel filters can be plugged, other times air filters are plugged. Other times silences are partially plugged. Sometimes things happen. All motors are ticking time bombs IMO. I still prefer the 250 or 300 XC for the suspension and gearing than these TPI bikes.

@@mesbahe yeah I paid attention to a couple of them but it didn't take long to realize he hasn't been riding 20 + years and didn't ever have a bike before the four-stroke era and he's only ridden late model stuff. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. I just assumed I was gaining knowledge from someone who has been in the game but man I'll tell you what now I can't even listen to his voice and there's no way he'd place top 5 and C-Class in our local hare scramble series. Again that doesn't matter but he's just a dirt bike nerd and I don't mean that in a bad way but that's not where I'm looking to get my info. I do like those cross training Enduro blokes and everything they stand for from what I can tell

You have a cool channel and you seem like a great guy Kyle who means well. I know you have owned a lot of bikes, tested them but you really dont have enough real experience. "Real experience " some one who grew up riding , racing, working on bikes , tuning from a young age. I have heard you say many things that were not right and made no sense . What you do have is enthusiasm , great gift of gab and willing to keep at it to grow your channel for your passion. I have been a motorcyclist singe age 8 and worked in the motorcycle industry for 35 years started with pushing a broom to owning a dealership and I raced 20 years, MX, Desert , Road racing. My advice is keep at it , join some races and hang out at a shop with a real tuner and start asking questions .

2 stroke bikes that dont need pre mixing have been around forever. obviously this fuel/oil injection system is new but my QR 50 had a separate oil tank and that thing is still going.

I’ll change ecu from the start for more oil going to motor but unfortunately relying on an oil pump which seems to be inferior or not up to the job. I’m about to buy new but I might wait for the 2022

My new 22 te150i is at the Yamaha Dealer at this moment. After just 17 hours, the bike started acting up with all the typical issues at once, for no apartment reason. Many failed attempts to repair, trading it in on a new reliable Yamaha.
