I was having that conversation in a stream a little while back. They didn't wanna play cause they were scared to lose. or just get bodied. And I brought up my old arcade days where I spent like $20 playing someone and losing. Guy said it sounds more like vengeance but I said, nah. I was having fun and most of al learning. AS it went from getting bodied to taking round/characters. Then I started winning. Losing is part of the cycle. And least in live venues many are WILLING to give you tips as you go on. I met some of my best friends as rivals in fighters cycling wins and losses. Teaching people that quarted up and making new rivals.

An important part of this video is that it's talking about your local FGC. After I started going to my locals, I realised just how different in-person FGC's are to the online FGC. It's a warmer, friendlier, more personal experience, and you know the people you talk to ACTUALLY play fighting games.

This is great video in letting people know that the FGC is open to eveyone, and you don't gotta be shy when it comes to playing games. But there is onne thing I feel like has to be emphasised a bit more I know locals aren't everything, but I really do encourage finding a local scene near you or at least a buddy to play games with somewhat consistently. Speaking from expierence, not having people you know personally to play with and just grinding online endlessly can be soul sucking and can cause burn out. I've been playing FG seriously for around 7 years now and only recently in the past 3 months have I found a very small local scene. Before I found that scene I hit a wall in my main game and was spending less and less time playing FG and was even considering selling my stick. I had nothing to motivate me, but just having some people to play locally to force each pyher to become better gave me my motivation and healthy mind set back when playing. I started playing more consistently, I tried a new type of controller(leverless), I made it past that wall in my main game, and I even started playing other fighting games as well(ones I wouldn't normally play like tekken, cause I had no reason to learn tekken). And I only found this because I some guys where playing SF6 in room in my local hobby shop when I was building a model. Finding something local can really motivate you beyond just making a higher rank in your game. Now I'm gonna shamelessly plug my local place We play at vanguard tabletop games in hyannis, ma on capecod every saturday. There's not many people there but me and one other person show up consistently every week. We have a verity of games from Strive, xrd, Sf6, sf5, sf4, Kof15, Uni2, Fighterz, T8, mk1, and smash(later this summer), with several types of controllers available(stick, pad[ps4, and ps5], hitbox) So if you're nearby on cape cod stop by, we always start around 7:30pm and go until 10pm

I’ve always been scared to join locals or just tournaments in general. I never really realized how “we’re just here to play fighting games to fuck around and find out”. Now I’m putting it on my to-do for this summer. Point #1 pretty much sold me on it. I always love being the guy to light up the room and just imagining how chill it is to just play fighting games with new people is really inspiring ❤

I remember going to my first Smash Ultimate local around 2 years ago and going 0-2, but after that I basically just sat there awkwardly because I knew nobody and didn't know how to interact with people. Even when they asked if I wanted to participate in the redemption bracket, I still said no because of how out of place I felt. But even still, I don't regret going at all. The games I did play were a lot of fun, I got to witness someone get salty then leave, and I got to witness everyone in the lobby shout "STEVE!!!" for absolutely no reason. lol Thank you so much for helping me realize that I wasn't alone in feeling the way I did. While it may still be a while 'til I go to another local (because of my work hours), I'll try and remember this video to hopefully elevate my next local experience. Though maybe my next local will be Guilty Gear instead. lol Thank you, IHeartJustice!!

@@IHeartJustice Oh no, I get it, don't get me wrong. It's just a personal struggle. Been an introvert since I was a kid. I've gotten better with it, you can't really be shy when you work retail jobs, but it's the main reason I use to talk myself out of doing anything. I do get the whole just having fun and hone in on the little things. I'm pretty skilled in Smash, entered a few tournaments and actually did play friendlies whenever I went to a con. So I get it, it's just a thing I struggle with.

I want to get more involved in the FGC but from a lot of things I see regarding tournaments whether it be something major like EVO, Frosty, etc. to even small local tournaments that are streaned I see absolutely no good sportsmanlike conduct. Person A wins, pops off, doesn't acknowledge their opponent. I dont know if I'm a minority with this mindset but its a bit offputting for the winner to completely disregard the person they just beat. People say the FGC is about comradery but to me that feels more like the exact opposite. I like fighting games, but the fact that I never see the sportsmanlike conduct that people keep saying happens I'd rather not participate in locals or tournaments. I understand not everyone will get along but even when FChamp lost to Kane Blueriver in that one marvel set he still shook his hand. They acknowledged each other after the match. I dunno. Correct me if I'm wrong or if the community just doesn't do that in general.
@IHeartJustice
@IHeartJustice Ай бұрын
that's actually the minority so I would challenge you to watch random pools of any game and count how many times people pop off vs just a handshake. Respect and sportsmanship is still the vast majority we actually see less and less of pop offs each year with how much more esports fighting games are becoming

Update: I figured out two teams that I'm decent with. And, I figured out Aerial Team Combos, they're so fun even if you just mash buttons. I now use either Hsien-Ko, Ghost Rider, Amaterasu. Or, occasionally, Dante, Deadpool, Taskmaster

I have to play devil's advocate for a second though I came to my first really big locals very recently, and I tried being the most myself I could right out of the gate. The problem was, I was essentially intruding a long established friend group years in the making. I didn't know anyone, but when people heard this loud mouth talkin shit like he usually does with his online friends, they didn't see the real talk side of me, so they Just figured I was making an ass of myself because I could "get away with it" To an extent, 7 months later I've still got a little bit of that annoying shithead first impression with a few people I still haven't gotten to really meet. Now mind you, I get to really be myself around fighting game players. And over time people have came to understand me. But when you're in any new environment remember to show respect first. Make others comfy around you so you can be comfortable with them.

Ohhhh nooooo.......nonononono. I don't have the luxury of following that last piece of advice. My entire life, people have really, and truly, rejected me being who and what I want. They walk away and ignore me all day. I am on personality-altering MEDICATION because society rejects the true me. Whenever I'm allowed to be happy and excited, everyone hates my guts. It's either conform or get an earful, ESPECIALLY from family. Even society's current standards on what is lame is what I find enjoyable. iheartjustice, I love ya and I appreciate your advice, but your advice is terrible for me. Hope you have a pleasant day, though, and thank you anyways.
