I think Alien: Isolation requires you to be extremely invested into the plot otherwise you're right, the game becomes a bit unbearable with the objectives turning into "But actually!". I remember being really into it so I never realized the game was doing that.

As a certified welder I can tell you that Ripley is not wearing proper protective gear to be doing that welding operation.

I've always wondered what would happen if you splashed water on an alien? Like their blood is VERY acidic, but water is a solvent so like shouldn't water mess them up REAL bad? It would neutralize their blood so like it should cause all kinds of problems for them, their exoskeleton might protect them from direct skin contact but like not their mouth. you could also probably kill them with a strong enough water cutter I mean you can cut steel with them. Acids also have a relatively high boiling point, but military flamethrowers also output at temperatures of 3,000 degrees so like it should have at least boiled their insides or something. I just don't see a way that Aliens can withstand being shot or boiled, but then again they are like an ancient race of space traveling gigabrain bugs or something. Ridley Scott's Alien universe is a fever dream to read about.

22:03 hearing “flame” followed by SMTIV Battle-B2 gave me Minotaur flashbacks. “BEHOLD MY DEMONS!” Agi, block, smirk, labrys strike, death.

My first playthrough of this game was on the PS3, meaning graphical glitches galore (like the time an area just didn't load so I was walking around in space running into invisible objects). One of these glitches happened in the first part where the alien can kill you. Only problem was that the alien didn't freakin load properly so he was invisible. It played the animation of me getting stabbed through the back by its tail, but me not realising that it just didn't load made me think that the Predator from the Predator series was also secretly in the game.

Still have fond memories of this game. The atmosphere, the aesthetic, the sounds - definitely a must play for fans of the Alien franchise or survival/horror games. Their decision to make the alien roam around without a predetermined path made the encounters unnerving and not necessarily the same for every encounter. The androids were a neat touch too - making them lean way towards their creepy uncanny valley appearance so you always feel uncomfortable around them whether you're in combat or just in hiding. I really hope Creative Assembly gets to make more games like this, even if it's with a different I.P.

I highly recommend that anyone that wants to play Alien: Isolation watch Alien and Aliens before playing the game. Not only are they good movies but it really puts you in an alien mood. Also good work on the vod, IH and team.

This episode of Ripley's Believe it or Not sure was ambitious.

In a universe where intelligent androids exist, wouldn't it be much cheaper just to make some robocop supersoldiers with machine guns for hands instead of searching the galaxy for some kind of deadly alien? Probably easier to control because you can just program them instead of trying to find a way to tame a beast that kills people for no reason.

As a huge fan of Alien and stealth games, playing this game on a big screen TV in the dark with surround sound was one of the best media experiences in my life.

This game was one of the best and simultaneously most frustrating experiences. To have a protagonist who is basically just a little baby who can't hurt anything go up against superhero androids and an alien that is totally invulnerable to everything is just an exercise of frustration. But it was one of the most tense, atmospheric games I've ever played.

If you really want xenomorph genitals, see if you can find some of the deleted material from Alien: Resurrection. Apparently the humanoid newborn alien was supposed to have some junk but even the director who wanted it in the first place decided it was too much, so it was cut. Not cut as in... you know what I mean.

This game was a lot of fun. I cant believe it's nearly 10 years old now. I thought the isolation of the game was such a good selling point. I loved how it made my anxiety feel.

The salmonela egg thing it's interesting. Aparently the american standard for eggs require them to be cleaned in such a way that it removes the natural protection of the egg so bacteria and other stuff can damage it unless kept in refrigeration. This does not happens in other countries.

Funny enough, about the "Alien makes it to Earth" idea, there is the Alien Comic Trilogy by Steve Perry, where Earth suffers a Xenomorph invasion and is subsequently overrun. And, truth be told, the series is mental, Earth is depopulated, an insane general tries to use manipulated Xenomorphs as troops against the Xenomorphs on Earth (which obviously backfires), and tons of other shenanigans.

this is a fantastic game, my only gripe with it is that it lasted too long, a few hours shorter would have helped the pacing significantly. But this is like a minor nitpick. I really hope CA make a sequel one day, this is the only alien game out there that managed to capture the aesthetic and spirit of the og film.

I love this summary and the grizzly voiceover of Ripley but this was a great stealth survival horror game, although slightly repetitive with circle backs, still S tier no question.

The eggs in the fridge have been washed and with that had their natural protection removed, thus they go bad quickly. Meanwhile the eggs not in the fridge have an intact coating from when they were first laid, making it safe to store them like that.

This is still one of the best survival horror games around, what they did with the AI director and the Alien is still unparalleled in the genre all these years later. It's a damn shame it was muddied by the prior release of colonial marines.

1:14 some countries wash their eggs before sale, which removes the protective coating and allows bacteria to penetrate the shell. In these countries, they have to store eggs in the fridge to maintain shelf life. In other countries, the eggs are not washed, the protective coating remains, and they can be stored most anywhere.

Oh man thanks for expleening this game for me, I used to play make believe alien versus predator, hiding around the house with flashlights on a blackout. The horror of finding my little brother crouched down beneath the closet curtains prevent me from ever playing an Aliens videogame ever again.

Believe it or not, in the comics, the aliens do manage to both infect rhinos, and reach earth 😂. The comics cover a completely different version of events tho. Newt and hicks survive and it focuses more on them (the kid and soldier from aliens)

For the Queen biology part, the species doesn't have a male and instead it incorporates the genetics of it's victims in place of sexual reproduction. The Alien in Aliens 3 is quadriped because the vector form (facehugger) "mated" with a dog, so really the term "Queen" is wrong, the Aliens are not eusocial but xenoparasitic. The presence of such a complex queen actually implies that some aspect of production of the vector forms forms a majority of energy consuming protein production, that is to say some aspect of making facehuggers consumes lots of energy and is the Aliens only weakness. It's why the queen is so large, that's a both a clutch protection mechanism but also implies a huge potential internal metabolism, meanwhile her presence is always associated with the appearance of this species extended phenotype structures, that is to say she is the nest builder. Given that Aliens are never shown to eat but are shown to modify their environment perhaps implies that their energy source is more similar to that of a fungus, the queen gets energy from the direct physical breakdown of the environment through these structures, or rather, the visible structures are somehow secondary to the process, as with fungus - but in either case it could be that the Queen is responsible for the breakdown and processing of the species entire digestive process with other forms simply storing nutrients in their tissues in some complex, long-lasting form, which could be the chemical heavy-weight compound that the queen uses her massive metabolism to create. Theoretically they could simply be very angry mushrooms.
