My Jetta 2016 1.4 tsi with 35k miles is doing great in the gas averaging 45 miles x gallon. I got the car used for about 10 thousands dollars in January 2019 the car was a lease before i got it, The over engineering of this engine has pros n cons, Pros gas mileage, turbo engine is more powerful vs compacts cars in the segment, construction is tight no squeaks, sporty driving dynamics. The cons even changing the air filter is a pain in the ass, and when maintenance problems arise could be a money pit but remember buy used with low miles after all the initial cost of the car was cheap

The combustion engine has evolved a lot over the last 100 years, and is much more efficient and refined these days. It is also a lot more complicated. It makes the relative simplicity of an induction AC motor much more attractive as a source of drive. The limitation being the high voltage traction battery technology, which now needs the focus of research and development.

Yeah, great job by Ralph Schmidt. We must make sure the engineers get credit. They are the heart and soul of the design.m (i'm not related to Rick Reid of the adjacent comment, just coincidence :-)). Question: what changed from 1.4 TSI to 1.4 FTSI ?
@mindspinn3115 жыл бұрын
I had no idea the 1.4 TSI is this old. It’s a relatively new engine in the US market. But I think it’s the newer version with aluminum block.

Hi My car (1.4 tsi golf mk5 66000 miles) is showing error p3008. Initially the error code p000A appeared. I changed camshaft sensor then code p3008 came up. Most of the people are saying that timing chain needs to replace. It was fine , I just changed water pump because it was leaking, and new drive belts, with engine oil service , dsg service & spark plugs. After all this work when I started my car a code p000A appeared, then changed camshaft sensor, camshaft adjuster valve, after 5 minutes a new code p3008 came up, car starts but idle rough. When press acceleration it vibrates very heavily. What do you think might be the problem?
@petershaw67274 жыл бұрын
I realise this answer is too late for you but for anyone else with this problem, it's likely to be valve timing, caused by a stretched timing chain or it could be a worn out camshaft/cam followers, if you've eliminated everything else as outlined in this original post..
@786hunzavalley4 жыл бұрын
Peter Shaw hi, thanks for your reply. It was the timing issue. Which was caused by very loose tensioner, due to which chain jumped a couple of tooth and timing went out. I replaced the chain & tensioner and car running fine since then...

i had to replace timing chain (whole set) , ignition coil packs (second time so far), internal leaking high pressure fuel pump and clean carbon build up from intake valves because of misfires, and decreased power. @ 62k miles / 100k km. Soon i will have to change water coolant pump because of the squeaky compressors electromagnetic cluch pulley... A fail engine with serious design flaws and low quality parts. Endless money pits...

JA FRITZ, DAS IST GUT MOTOR, JA, JA ... Lügen wieder erzählen? Next time incorporate the sprocket with the crankshaft, it will be even more expensive and will shorten the engine's lifespan to 50.000k so you can sell more "cheap" "Volksautos" with chains stretching which can't even meet the normal BELT lifespan. Also, super expensive parts, super complicated service- like you couldn't make it even more difficult and expensive? WHY DO YOU EVEN BOTHER WITH CHAINS??? I CAN'T UNDERSTAND. BELT IS MUCH FASTER TO CHANGE AND MUCH CHEAPER!! Personally, I wouldn't risk but Citroen claims their belt service should be carried on every 180.000-240.000 km !!! Again WHY WOULD YOU BOTHER WITH CHAINS THAT CAN NOT EVEN LAST 60.000km or in many cases less??? Shuldigung Fritz, I forgot to mention OIL CONSUMPTION- I believe TSI and TFSI engines consume more oil over 1000km than Trabant.

It's a real shame that Audi have designed a valve train drive system with defective tensioner and cheap and nasty components that results in failure after as little as 30 000 km. The world is full of failed cam chain tensioners in the vw audi seat range. The days of German reliability has clearly gone. Come on Audi....dont let the accountants rule design and stop sub contracting manufacture of plastic rubbish in China

If the standard map wasn't so god damn lean there wouldn't have been as many problems. This engine runs super hot and doesn't tolerate long oil change intervals or substandard fuel. It also requires a lot of preventative maintenance to run reliably

@@JG-ge3ui well, given it is a timing chain, not a belt, it should have been stronger. Also, you are one case, maybe lucky. It depends on the year also. After 2011 they revised the timing parts. All in all, a timing belt is longer lasting which is not right
