Its so weird that the red faced nuns were never really explored in this movie, theyre constantly in the background and highlight their prescence to the viewer, but in the end they just remained a mystery to the point you wonder why they are even in the movie?

I agree. And there's a latent supernatural element that kinda disappears too! Editing I guess?

What I love about Sydney Sweeney's performance here is there's a scene early in the film where one of the nuns throws constant verbal jabs at her and a look comes over Sydney's face that hints at an inner anger that rears it's head in the final act. It makes you realize that while she's wholesome, it's a genuine, decisive effort for her to be that way! Fascinating character.

Interesting thing about the upside-down cross. In Catholicism, specifically, it is actually a symbol of solidarity with the church because Saint Peter was crucified on an upside-down cross. It's only a sacreligious symbol for Protestants because they don't honor saints. I don't blame you for not knowing. I wouldn't be surprised if most self-proclaimed Catholics don't even know that.

Is that the one that used generative ai to make a poster or something within the film? I keep hearing the movie is good, but I find it disrespectful to use ai when they could have hired a human artist instead; like film is such a passionate and collaborative art form, so why replace a human for something when a freelancer would love a credit on a cool horror movie? I know I am in the minority for being so strictly anti generative ai for most things because I find it unethical to use human made art as data set without the consent of the original artists.

Dude, the end of the movie is insanely funny in how silly it is. I had a smile on my face from the last encounter all the way through to the end. The acting was decent/good, the writing had some moments, but it definitely needed some fixing up. It is just so incredibly silly in parts where we need to take it seriously, and various events and setups are just dropped completely. Some of the silly stuff might have worked in a movie with more supernatural overtones, but not in here where stuff is somewhat grounded. The bit where they split the story up with time skips of a few months also hurts the story. I get we need the time progression, but the start of every section is "lets talk about this thing we should have definitely discussed in depth in the previous months we skipped." Conclusion: pretty neutral. Looks decent, I had fun in the cinema, no real complaints about the acting, but the writing and pacing should have been looked at once more. I didn't mind having seen it, I doubt I will go watch it again.

Just saw this and yes, the long suspense sequences are so good. And the Big Acting moment really impressed me. I thought the reveal worked pretty good with the seeds they planted at the start, although I do wish they explained how exactly the Thing happened in the first place. And tbh, I didn't think they would go through with The Act at the end. I kept expecting a more cliche heel turn or twist, but they stuck to their guns 🪨, so mad respect for that! I really liked it!

I also had some issues with the moving doing those "loud noise" bits that make you flinch like almost every 7 to 10 minutes on the first half of the movie. And I don't really don't enjoy that. Just saw this movie. I left thinking that the acting was good, and the shots were beautiful, but that I would almost qualify it more as a thriller than a horror movie. It's very slow-paced. There's more gore than I expected, especially at the end, and the ending, well, it kind of worked for me but I guess it won't please everyone. If you're a horror fan though, you won't be scared by this movie. I still think it's worth seeing for the cinematography and the acting. I'd say 5/10.

SYDNEY was breathtaking in this picture. Also the cinematography was top notch.

"if fingernails are a problem for you..." Well, that might depend on what you mean (havent seen the movie yet). We talking about getting raked by them, the typical horror movie "gory nails dripping with viscera", or someone's nails getting ripped out? Because, really, only that last one would make me feel like crawling out of my skin. 😱

People talking about the red masked nuns. My interpretation was that they were warnings given to her potentially by god as to what her fate staying there would be. The cross brands on the nuns feet and the main characters feet also serve to convey that a mass amount of nuns if not all of them have been experimented on throughout the films history. And by the end of the film we see the main chatacter with a face covered in blood. Mirroring what she saw throughout the film and becoming a self fufilling prophecy.

would've liked to hear something about Alvaro Morte's performance

I really liked it. It was beautiful costuming and sets, the music. The end certainly made my audience totally silent. A lot of people will hate on anything these days. I don’t even think it’s an anti religion movie. It’s just a movie. I’d buy it on dvd. Enjoyed Sydney going from innocent to savage.

For all the tropes in catholic based horror I appreciated that what was going on was actually nothing demonic at all but just extreme fanaticism within the church itself which felt just as evil. Very clever premise and great commentary. I do wish there was more time to explore the themes a bit

Oh, I paid attention to the review, I promise. But I was also... *gaze wanders to display on your right* "Oh, wow, is that The Heroic Legend Of Arislan and Ranma 1/2 among his anime?!"
