IMMORTAL Open World Spellbreaker Build Guide

After playing around with our Immortal Mirage ( • Open World Celestial M... ), I wanted to see if we could repeat the feat on other classes.
Turns out that a Spellbreaker is a perfect elite specialization to carry you through any Open World Content.
Instead of avoiding damage, like we did with our Mesmer, this Warrior build will simply heal and out-sustain any damage taken. This allows for a rather flexible play style and allows you recover from any mistakes you might make.
In the video I'm showcasing the most defensive option, which still works fine for regular open world activities (farming, meta events, etc), as well as for killing champions. I do offer alternatives in terms of skills, traits, and gear, should you prefer a more offensive playstyle.

Looking at the defense build and the Relic of the Defender triggers on a block. There are no blocking skills or Aegis in the build so it would depend on Aegis granted by others to ever trigger, eh?

@@RecklessFables Just saw this comment now, sorry! Perfect Counter counts as a block for the relic. It is overkill to do so by the way, but it was pretty fun to use that as a way to heal back up when I made a mistake.

I would love to see your take on Untamed! I’ve been running Dagger/Axe and Dagger/Torch with Let Loose to spam the Dagger Ambush.

I like how LI (Low impact) the signet build is! I think I'm change it a little to suit me, but would never thought of this w/o seeing this video.

metabattle had a whole(little) section for Li builds, thats sadly long gone, i sometimes struggle to lets say play realy focused and well coordinated

Considering your crit chance and ferocity level, have you tested with rune of the ranger and sigil of accuracy? I have not tested it, but I am seeing that would give 95% crit (with +100 precision food it would be 98+%) with 199,27% crit damage. Just wondering how the damage works out.

what is your favourite build to harvest nodes? i really like quickness to do so, but i dont really like to play revenant, so currently i am running a deadeye with double pistol and sigil of celerity. ill tag a mob or two and then i got nearly 20 sec of quickness, enough to gather a few nodes and then ill move on.

I've been switching it up lately. I have some monstrosity of a build for thief and ranger that allows for perma-quickness from Haste/Zephyr, combined with cups of light-roasted coffee. Other times, I bust out my OG farmer, the Scrapper. If you equip Relic of the Chronomancer, the wells will give you quickness as if the June patch never happened. Other times I go with quick brand, or warrior or mesmer with the 20% attack speed trait. Probably not the answer you were looking for. But if you want my top pick, I'd still say Scrapper, but with Relic of the Chronomancer.

Enjoying these build styles of videos. Would be nice if there was a single screen with all traits and equipment (maybe at the end) so I can just copy from, currently hving to jump between game and video and skip forwards and back

Thank you for this build! Is it normal that most of my skills are "always" on cooldown and I can't do much except autoattack?

Yeah, it's kind of the nature of the build - with only dagger 2 having a cd that's lower than 10 seconds. Depending on your utilities, you could have more buttons to press. But those have long cooldowns too in general.

I know this might be obvious to understand but for better defense i buy knights armour set stats?Maybe celestial with extra healing power and couple extras is tankier or not?

Knights would indeed increase your armor, as well as your crit chance. If you'd rather have a condi alternative, both rabid and dire work pretty great as well.

@@phandrel at least season 1 is outstandingly good, after that👀 iirc after season 1 or 2 the animation studio changed, not for the better, but specifically the German dub changes from season to season, names get pronounced differently and such things 🙈 omu is fine, but the manga is definitely superior 😇

Knight gear is a master pick for power based professions, for tanks with condition damage I use either settler or trailblazer. Im not a fan of minstrel and givers, because those two dont boost neither of the two types of damage. Those two are effective in raids only, and probably meta events, strikes, and maybe fractals, but just a maybe. Both Weaver and Catalyst benefit heavily from the Knight gear in terms of raw Toughness. Ive tested the Knight setup on Weaver, Catalyst and Reaper, and the best effect from using it I get on the Reaper and Catalyst, and slightly less on Weaver, but still it does amazing job. One of my guilds recommended me running full berserker instead, but I heavily disagree with that for the situations where I have to kill alone a very tough opponent like Legendary Bounty Champion. P.S. I have Viper gear and Berserker gear anyway, I needed a solid option for solo stuff and since im not a big fan of Celestial gear, I picked Knight (Beigarth) gear instead.

Knight's is indeed amazing for power based builds that can benefit from the extra toughness. I fully agree that you should use a set that works for you, especially when playing solo or tackling difficult events. In the open world, I usually run around with some wild combos as well, notably commander's on power builds that would benefit from some extra concentration as well.

I'll go try that bounty for sure! I might give it a go on the recent chronomancer build (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nM16aZyf17zVhKs.html) , as that one has allowed me to solo a lot of stuff I wasn't able to before. It is way more convoluted than the spellbreaker, though.

@@phandrel I would greatly appreciate it. I have tried a few different professions on him ,but the clouds of poison and the relentless veteran mummies he spawns overwhelm any thing I have tried. I am no expert at the game , just a novice really. I will tell you though the warrior spellbreaker build has came the closest . I managed to stick him on a ledge where his mummies could not get me ,and was able to whittle him down to 40% before the 10 min timer ran out.

Hmm ... My Spellbreaker is not all that durable, being focussed on CC (Dagger/Mace) ... time for some experimentation as I realise that I have not looked at his build since he was made! :D

The great thing with spellbreaker (and warrior in general) is that you can keep adding survivability until it suits your needs. In the video, I went for an extreme case. But it's easy to swap between both by swapping traits or utilities.

I haven't made any for WvW myself, but there are builds that use Celestial (such as the Defensive Condition Berserker Roamer) or Marauder's (Magebane Roamer) on Metabattle: metabattle.com/wiki/Warrior So you could repurpose the sets either way if you want to try this out.

Are you running a jade bot core: tier 10? If not, that could explain it.

For Fractals (and raids/strikes) I'd recommend changing to a more classic strength/defense/spellbreaker setup, as you will most likely have a healer along that will heal you.

Yep, but you might want to change Sun and Moon (middle trait, spellbreaker) to Slow Counter if you mainly stay on Greatsword.

@@aidanwaite7960 I'd go offensive, since you can get so much self healing from traits and skills.

Something is bugged because I see Spellbreaker instead of Mechanist. 😜 As I mentioned some time ago (during surveys to choose one class), I tried to main a warrior, but in the end I ended up as a full-time Engineer. 😂 Worrior is not for me, and certainly not in the open world. 😢

There will be a Mechanist guide soon :) I just couldn't resist showing the Spellbreaker first. Got quite a bit of work for Engi, got the Scrapper update, and both a Mechanist and Holosmith open world build I am working on. Engi is a great main class to be imo, it has to be one of the most flexible in the game for any situation. I definitely feel the difference when entering groups with Warrior vs Engi and when we need extra utility.

@@phandrel I like Scrapper and Mechanist, but I will try to learn Holosmith as well. The fact is that it is universal, and currently doing reasonable damage is not very difficult, so I can easily do anything with it and in the meantime learn more difficult rotations. And I'm impatiently waiting for the SOTO update so that I can make legendary armor. 🙂

@@phandrel It's a very, very strange feeling when you play as a Warrior with legendary armor and you can change the build to literally any build in a few seconds and switch to Engineer, where you have three ascended armors (harrier, berserker and viper) and you are very limited... 😢

@@vanhohenheim9083 I've been in the exact same situation! My first Legendary Armor was heavy, bc I figured having guardian/revenant be able to play all builds would be good for PUGs. But I kept playing more Medium classes :P

Heya - I haven't forgotten about the request, but haven't gotten around testing the final product either. So be warned, it might be bad :P I was thinking something along the lines of this: gw2skills.net/editor/?PKwAw+7lRwWYMsJmJWaPqtfA-DyIY1olvMiLFqsAUeAA-e Instead of healing through might makes right, you will be invulnerable every time you enter/exit berserk. At the same time, you will get regeneration when using your heal skill, which you want to do because it resets your burst skill. You will be getting a ton of adrenaline from yourself, as well as when you're hit and you heal every time you spend adrenaline. So in true Berserker fashion, you'll need to attack to not die :P

@@phandrel Hi! Thanks for coming up with this! I have been testing it and tweaked it abit, using berserker 2,3,2 instead for the higher dmg potential. Wanted to ask does blood reckoning with outgoing condi dmg?
