the newer version (like my 7492) has all that except for softstart. I would say the top 3 upgrades are: 1 throw away the mitre guage and replace with something decent or at least use a bit of tape, to minimize rattle. 2 make a zero clearance insert or crosscut sled 3 get something like a flat but wide aluminum extrusion for m8 that can simply be attached to the fence, e.g. for resawing. 🙋🏻‍♀️Anna

You do have to spend some time setting the saw up... blade, fence, etc. But once done, the saw is great. Fairly compact which is Nice kzfaq.infoUgkxXh-4_3-ZT1fFWP91ZV7iVqzElr0lEb-a I did get an Incra Miter Gauge which takes some setup as well. The stock miter gauge can be adjusted in the miter slot with a little painter's tape... this tightens up the side to side play a lot.

My DWE7485 already has all of those features, including the soft start feature, and the standard riving knife, but the start button also has a safety lock to lock the saw from being able to start. And it has an additional pin feature to be able to lock the lock self into that same position to keep the Saul from being able to be unlocked.

Besides being jarring, loud and annoying, the 'Hard Start' on the Dewalt can chew up the kerfs on tablesaw sleds, bounce the workpiece off the table, etc. Thanks so much for showing the addition of a soft start in such detail - I'm definitely going to do this!

Interesting. The UK (DeWalt) version of this table saw - & I include mine - purchased from new five years ago, has a low profile Riving knife, soft start module in-situ, & an overlaid kill-switch plate; unsure as to where precisely you are on the globe, but I find these three essential components should be standard, worldwide. That said, your tutorial for upgrading was excellent.

Then DeWalt's policy for global standardisation has failed, Matt - either that, or the regulatory body for your country is at odds with the rest of the world.

Be sure to check the specs on any soft start module you buy. Dewalt job site saws are rates at 20 amps as are many other saws. Even my Dewalt circular saw is rated 20 amps. It's difficult to find a soft start module rated at 20 amps.

Good video, that hard start is very annoying!! But I have a key question - that fence of aluminium extrusion is not standard - where did you get it from? Is it a standard extrusion profile or did you get it made custom? And how did you attach it? That for me is one of the weaknesses of the standard saw that it looks like you have fixed really well, but strangely not shared! I have seen huge plywood or MDF fences built over the DeWalt fence, but they are way too big, heavy and ugly for me! Were you able to build any adjustment into it? That is, some of these fences are not 100% vertical, but there is no adjustability - were you able to make any fine adjustments using threads, shims or such like? Would be really curious to know! (thanks)

There were 4 types of this saw made over time, the fence is (I think) a standard type 3 - you can buy it from dewalt and is compatible with current type 4 saws.

Watch videos on safety. Then get scrap wood and practice, practice, practice. All saws are inherently dangerous, but with proper safety procedures, you can come to really enjoy using a table saw. Eye protection and hearing protection are really important as they free you to stay focused on the work in front of you. Use push sticks and feather boards. Never use without a riving knife installed. I have a mental checklist that I go through every time before I turn that saw on. Been a contractor for 40 years now.

how can you make this saw less noisy?
@mikevodopier358
@mikevodopier358 2 жыл бұрын
I agree it is very noisy, but there are limited/no options to reduce sound with an open frame (unlike with cabinets). But for a small, reasonably priced saw, it is hard to go past that rack and pinion fence system. That fence of aluminium extrusion is not standard - Well Done Tips where did you get it from? Is it a standard extrusion profile or did you get it made custom? And how did you attach it? That for me is one of the weaknesses of the saw that it looks like you have fixed, but strangely not shared! In reality Dewalt is not concerned with supplying a TOP bench saw: -The internal dust insulation has been changed, even so the machine releases a lot of dust. - It's a noisy machine. - The consumer does not have the option to buy this machine at 127 volts. - No disc brake - Goniometer with clearance. - There is no flange size option, plastering the consumer to buy cutting discs of another size (should come shaft hole flanges of other disc sizes as an accessory). - The cutting edge is out of adjustment. - The angle adjustment knob is too hard as well as unreliable. - Does not fit 254 mm disc, only 250 mm. When starting and stopping the engine, strangely "spark". DISAPPOINTMENT! The industries, such as Bosch, Makita, Dewalt etc. it is the same disrespect towards the consumer. Adilson you're right! Enough of watching videos from KZfaqrs running their hands over the heads of the saw manufacturers just to beg and beg a shut up and in favor of GARBAGE!!!!!!! People who keep selling themselves to the manufacturers of saws and tools in exchange for "jabá". The reality is one, for tool manufacturers, we are considered third class consumers, not to mention the lack of safety and quality! We cannot and must not accept these equipment and tools without quality, safety and respect for others, it is the lack of maturity prevailing at the expense of reasonableness, common sense, ethics, safety and respect! We cannot accept that we Brazilians are treated as third-class consumers, denying us and making us have to consume products without quality. We don't have to accept what the manufacturers want to sell us and push down our throats, precarious, limited machines, which fall short of our needs. Today, the market has a lack and need for portable saws with better quality, as well as features and safety. This "little chat" and the justification of the industries that these machines are for construction sites only serves to relieve them of launching better saws. Year after year the so-called "releases" and or "new" do not have effective advances and improvements. It is the same as always, the accommodation of industries. What really changes is just price, always more expensive, without significant effective improvements for the consumer!

I just got 7492 today...I can see that 2 out of 3 issues were fixed. Going to implement softstart soon. Anyway, I think still dewalt table saws are far away from competitors. Maybe Hikoki with similar fence is coming to game with quite much lower price but with higher weight. (talking about central Europe market)
