In The Hall of the Mountain King, from Burnt Island Games, brings you polyomino gameplay as you burrow your way through the mountains, attempting to move statues towards the center, recruiting trolls, casting spells and more, as you try to most efficiently outperform the other players.

Scoring System
5 - Great game. Period. It's in my collection. Obviously.
4 - Really solid game but for reasons X or Y, I'm just not willing to give it my top score. Almost always a game I'm adding to my collection.
3 - A solid game. May or may not enter/leave my collection depending on a number of factors such as other similar games, personal interest, people I play with etc. Sometimes can reflect a game's allure dropping over time.
2 - I'm either not the target audience, or too many issues with it.
1 - An arguably bad game.

Excellent rating. When it hit kickstarter back in the day, I was very excited but didn't back it. Got a few plays in and enjoyed it a lot, but didn't feel the driving need to add it to the pile. Definitely will play it any time it drops to the table!

My thoughts exactly! I couldn't put my finger on why I didn't enjoy it more than I did. Ended up getting rid of it because of this. No matter how many times we played it, we never really 'loved' it. Like you say, with so many games I only have time for ones that our group loves.

My collection is missing a solid polyomino focused game, I had hopes for this but if you have any recommendations I’d be happy to hear them! I feel like Isle of Cats is less puzzley than I want, and am curious about Kingdom Rush

I'm feeling the same about Isle of Cats. Patchwork, Bärenpark or NMBR9 might fit your bill. I enjoy polyomino games with simple rules and just a focus on the puzzle. We are currently really enjoying My City because it's a very quick and smooth experience with little bits of variation with each mission.

Some to look into would be... Lighter Weight: New York Zoo Heavy Weight: Feast for Odin Unknown Weight: Planet Unknown (Late Pledge still available on kickstarter, I’m really looking forward to this one.)

I did enjoy this game and the trollsmoot. It's not a polyomino game in the same aspect of Isle of Cats or Plane Unknown, However there is some aspects of how to lay you tunnels to get the extra resources while unearthing the statues or more entrances to workshops ( yes even you neighbors if you can pull it off ). This was a fun thinky game. I so wanted that trollsmoot to be just one card wider. 😁

We only play this 2-player and absolutely love it. We decided to house rule it after a few regular games, though. Just start with a base of 5 for the trollsmoot. This'll get you a much longer and more fulfilling game (you'll almost run out of tiles, so don't try this with more than 2).

Followed the 1st Kickstarter to the end but didn’t pull the trigger as realised it wasn’t for me.For me something just seemed off gameplay wise at the time. Components look amazing though.

The trollsmoot ressource cascading mechanic is really really fun to plan for! By far the highlight of this game. The other mechanics are fine too. But like you and other in the comments, its maybe missing a lil something keeping it from being "GREAT". Very curious about its "prequel" in June.

I played it couple of times, I think its a very good euro game if you can get 4 players together. I played it only as a 2 player game and it was still fun, but you really need more people to get more interaction.

This game fell completely flat for me. Played 2 games, and at the end of each I looked at what I had done on the board, and was just not satisfied at all.

Have you tried the mini trolls? It gives you that drop more that really does add.
