@FixItPleaseJ4 жыл бұрын
@Loctite North America First off, I love LOKTITE Blue 242. It does a phenomenal of job holding fasteners were I put them, even when there are ridiculous vibration loads trying to shake everything apart. I can take it apart later with just a little bit of extra grunt, and not a torch. It is very challenging for people who know how and when something works to explain it to someone who doesn't. I think you were trying to let it show for itself, but clearly you could make a video to show where and when to use it. Most people don't actually read instructions, and even fewer will call the 800 number. He should have said, " Loc-Tite blue is made to increase the initial holding torque of a fastener, and as a side benefit, since it keeps the threads clean, the torque to break it free will be same, even if the fastener is exposed to harsh elements. You won't need an eight foot breaker bar, or a torch, to take off that rusty 1/2 inch bolt, even if the bolt is underneath your snow plow." A top down view of a Beam torque wrench, with slow motion at break point would have been very effective and everyone loves slow-mo. An graphical overlay of of the breaking torque would demonstrate how much difference it makes. @Gary Anderson Think of Blue LokTite 242, as a drop of glue to keep the nut from vibrating off when you don't want it to, but still breakable enough to take it off when you do. Blue is the most practical for most uses since you don't need a torch to break it loose. There are other products that prevent rusting threads such as anti-seize with copper, aluminum, nickel, graphite, or teflon, if you only want to prevent the threads from seizing up.

242 or 243? The video shows 243, is 242 another similar product or is this a typo? EDIT: OK, I looked it up. So 242 is the older threadlocker. Loctite says 243 is an updated version and it's a touch stronger, but more importantly it is oil resistant. So according to the guy who's website I read, with 242, yes, you should clean the threads to get grease and oil off...with 243, you don't need to (though go a head and do it to be thorough). So do some research and decide which to use and whether you need to clean it or not. So maybe that's why they didn't clean it in the video?

I find it VERY interesting they don’t to tell us that you should first clean your threads - or whatever - with alcohol or some kind of solvent (and let it fully dry before applying the Loctite, of course - I debated whether or not to add that, but this is KZfaq, so of course I need to add it). This is going to remove any oil or grease or anti-corrosive agent that might be on the surface (stuff like that is quite likely to be on nuts, bolts and screws, right? The answer is YES, it’s quite likely). Any of that crud will cause Loctite to fail miserably in its purpose. And let the Loctite cure before using the machine or item - that means at least 24 hours of inactivity but of course it all depends on temperature, humidity, blah blah blah. Yeah. So you came here to get good info from a video, but you had to read the comments to get anything really worthwhile, eh?
@nordicpride9708 Жыл бұрын

Wow that was so easy to takeoff when I have it in a vice grip using a torque wrench
@falcon7593 жыл бұрын
If the thread is "locked," of course it's going to require some force to remove. That simply means the thread-locker was doing its job. Obviously in real-life applications, a bolt that size is going to be in something fairly substantial and won't require a vice-grip to loosen. They were just using a loose nut and bolt for demonstration purposes. Also, he was using a fairly small ratchet (not a torque wrench, which should only be used for tightening, not loosening) which is a perfectly normal and common tool for loosening nuts/bolts (other options would be a breaker bar, combo wrench, or adjustable wrench).

Well if you’re not a citizen of tard town, most people would know that when the bolt/nut gets tight on the rusty threads, you tighten it back down a few threads and begin re-loosening the bolt as a repeated process. Cleaning the rusted threads on the way off. Or you can just use the retard strength and no brain and snap the bolt/nut off without that process.

I heard for knife pivots that there are fewer metal ions transferring that can cause Loctite to stay uncured. I think in this video that part was not touched on very heavily is the importance of the ion transfer to act as an activator. Something like a stainless, dlc coatied, or titanium has less ion transfer. But, what you can do is after you clean the pivot and screws with isopropyl alcohol. You can put the Loctite directly on a copper penny to start that ion process as an activator. You can mix it around and then place the blue Loctite on your pivot screw and dial in your knife action and let it dry for over 24 hours and bang… You’ve got an action that won’t come loose.
