In The Pyro Field With Tora Tora Tora - Terre Haute Airshow 2018

Take a rare trip inside the pyro field and aerobatic box as the Commemorative Air Force's Tora Tora Tora group performs a Pearl Harbor reenactment at the 2018 Terre Haute Airshow in Terre Haute, IN. Watch as replica Japanese "Zero" fighters and "Kate"/"Val" bombers roar overhead and ground pyrotechnics simulate strafing and bombing runs!
Also featured is the CAF's B-17 Flying Fortress "Texas Raiders" representing one of the B-17s that arrived to the Hawaiian Islands during the attack.

Jeez man, has WW2 just started again? 😲😲😲 This is the most amazing demonstration at an airshow I have ever seen in my absolute life. This definitely reminds me of the attack of Pearl harbour in the 20th century using the exact same aircraft. Keep up uploading many more vids of urs dude cause I’m a fierce fan of air festivals and plane spotting.👏👏👏

They made a really good job of the Val conversions from T-6 airframes plus BT-13's to make the KI.15 Babs aircraft,this is the best video I have ever seen of this re-enactment,take a well deserved bow Airmail you have really caught the action here.

Sorry to see this B-17 which I believe was lost in the mid air this year. The website for toratoratora is fairly simple and I am amazed they still perform being young when they first started. I wonder if they have worn airframe out with so many shows. Also a good example of how safe an exciting show can be performed. The days of 50+ heavy metal planes parading Forbes Air field in Topeka are long gone but they still rumble through my childhood memories.

I was there that Day . Good show ! Saturday rained like today .Sunday was iffy but the cloud deck dissipated. Just hazy. Blue angles preformed was awesome

They are all supercharged, but some have different props, exhaust setups, and sometimes power settings.

They used to be with aka Confederate Air Force then (Harlingen Tx.) back in the 70's & 80's...alot more planes (Texan trainers) with kates, vales, and zero's along with Corsair's, P-40's, Avengers, acting like they were shooting down the Japanese....along with the B-17 Texas Raiders doing a one wheel landing with smoke....epic back in those days during my childhood.

I wonder how many of the guys who flew in the movie are still around? When I was a kid going to see them most were the actual pilots who flew the planes for the movie.....

Great video by standing where the action is - excellent! But the planes should not use smoke until they're shot down.

They use the smoke to help with picking up the aircraft so they are easier to see. With that many aircraft it can get a bit hectic.

Unfortunately these aren't real zeros. They're modified T-6 Texans. But there are two (I believe) real zeros flying in the US. One is based in Chino, California, and I got to see it fly live in Houston. That thing is AMAZING!! These Texans are a pretty good approximation, but if you think this is good, you'll cream your pants seeing a real zero live 😁

I believe they are the same "replicas" that were used in the filming of Tora Tora Tora in 1970 and the movie "Midway". I served on an older Navy WW2 era tanker and we were in Pearl Harbor during the filming and saw these planes fly over and "drop bombs and torpedoes" in the harbor. Looked pretty real.

They are the very same. I just got back from the CAF Wing Staff conference in Dallas this past weekend and talked to two of the current Tora pilots. I asked, and they said yes, these are the very same aircraft used in the filming.

Mostly aircraft from Akagi, but there’s also Egusa’s Val from Soryu. And a Zero from Tainan-ku. I don’t know why this is popular in US, considering death toll on Navy. The ones I have seen featured at least P40s shooting down some of them and a real A6M2.

No, there are precious few of those. These are replicas manufactured from T-6 Texans and BT-13 Valiants to be used in the movie Tora Tora Tora

I love the Tora show, but I've never understood why each airplane has to smoke. It's as if everyone of the Japanese planes had been shot up, and or, shot down, which isn't realistic in my opinion. If the Tora group were doing dogfighting with American fighters, then yes. Smoke em up sometimes. But, the constant smoking takes away from the attack demo. Just my 2 cents. Still love the flying.

Chuck Halen LPP the smoking is so that people can track which planes are which. It’s a lot different on camera then it is in person.

I love your Icon man, awesome job too I F#$KIN HATE CANCER! Murdered my dad. I was with Army Aviation Heritage Foundation for a few yrs and did a lot of Pyro stuff. The view is outstanding from the Pyro box (That's the area marked off on the map by the A.T.F. and can't nobody tell you to move it not even the President) Carful what you ask for though as that is one hell of a lot of work. Those Pyro guys do not get the props they deserve. But you really do get the best seat in the house. Had many an aircraft zip by fast and low. The pilot with the biggest balls I've ever seen is Julie Clark. That lady of 60 at the time flew past me about 20ft away, I looked her level in the eyes, Man I was sitting down on a plastic milk crate! Her prop couldn't have been more than 2ft off the ground. Later that nite at the hotel I bought her a drink and told her I was in awe of her mad skills. If you haven't seen her fly look'er up on here.

Warren Chambers I'm very sorry to hear about your dad and thank you. I'm sure it's hard work but I'm sure it's all worth it. I've seen July. Clark a few times and love seeing her fly every time. Such a beautiful performance. Wish I still seen her around now
