I have to read My Brilliant Friend for my book club so you're making me feel more excited about it now. Girl you needed to treat yourself after the difficulty you had. Don't feel bad. Currently reading Paris.... I recommend you buy the Folio Classic edition of Beloved. It's gorgeous and has the most beautiful artwork in it. I splurged for that one when I had the money and don't regret it.

How cool is it that you can put books on hold at you used bookstore? You're so lucky that you have such a great used bookstore near you!

That edition of Moby Dick is so nice! I buy a lot of second hand books/cheap editions too- there is no greater feeling than a good book bargain!

Congratulations on the higher subscriber count : ) I honestly believe you deserve so many more because I love your videos. I didn't have a proper cell phone until the start of 2013. So, like you said, to see just how attached to that thing I am - just three years later, is a little mind-boggling. I think Book Outlet probably broke me a little when it came to not wanting to pay full-price for books. There has been more than one occasion where I've seen a new book in person for $27, and then seen it on Book Outlet for $3-4. It's easier for me to fight temptation at Barnes and Noble because they just started getting ridiculous with their security sticker placement.

Your videos are so thoughtful and interesting. You have a way of weaving your (non-bookish) personal stories into your narrative about the books you buy and read. The words you chose to describe the Rilke's take on the power exchange involved between gods and believers...thought provoking for sure. (Off topic: Love the sleeves of the blouse you are wearing!)

+jbsubscribes Thank you. You are so kind. I didn't get to finish the Rilke book before it was due back to the library but I did put it on hold again and should be getting my own copy soon.

Congratulations on over 600!!! Oh man...7 days without a phone...I don't think I could do that? I need my GPS at least once a day, lol. YES! I have to read the fourth in the Neapolitan series still. I was hoping to read it this month, but I am so overwhelmed by all my reads right now :( Maybe next month. I need to finish it!!!

Ok, you've sold me on the Neopolitan series. Picking it up for my birthday.

+Morgan Gayle I really hope you like it. I just related to the protagonist so much so I think that's why the piece worked for me.

P.S. Right now I'm reading The Bridge to Brilliance by Nadia Lopez (with Rebecca Paley), Demelza (the second book in the Poldark series, and At Large and At Small by Anne Fadiman.

I feel your sticker show. I have 2 books and John Lewis "March" series on hold at my local used bookstore. I usually get my books from the library but March is hard to come by and the other book "walked" from my library. And I am going to order 2 copies of one title (one is a gift). SMH. P.S. One of my two books is a $5.99 copy of Moby Dick.

+Secundra Beasley My library has gotten really good at getting graphic novels for checkout. Those are so hard for me to buy because they really are expensive. I probably wouldn't read them at all if I couldn't check them out from the library. I have the first book in the March series checked out right now. I checked it out for a palette cleanser between books but I've been having a hard time actually finishing books lately, I don't know when I'll get to read it.

In Australia, if you went into a store like Barnes & Noble, you'd come out with 2 books for $50, and they'd be in paperback, not hardback. Book prices down there are painful for readers.

+distant_sounds That really sucks. How do you deal? Do you just suck it up and pay the prices? Ebooks? Are there any decent secondhand/charity shops near you that sell books.

I used to live there, but didn't read during all those years, but knew of the prices. Go to booktopia.com.au and have a look at the prices. That's the biggest online bookstore down there. A lot of people down there buy new from bookdepository as it's much cheaper (and no shipping fee) than buying from the local store or australian online sites.
