Shaka Senghor spent 19 years in prison, 7 of them in solitary confinement. This is how he found true freedom.

The way Shaka Senghor tells his story, he found himself incarcerated long before he officially went to prison for second-degree murder, and he experienced freedom long before completing his sentence at the age of 38.
Senghor ran away from home and got drawn into the crack cocaine trade at the age of 14. After a series of traumatic events, he felt trapped in a narrative that dictated his life could only lead to limited outcomes: an early grave or a prison cell.
In our intimate interview, Senghor shares the three "keys" that transformed his perspective on life and have enabled him to live as a genuinely free man today.

About Shaka Senghor:
In 1991, Shaka Senghor pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and spent the next 19 years behind bars, seven of them in solitary confinement. Today, Senghor has become a vocal advocate for prison reform, and tackling the problem of mass incarceration, in all its complex ugliness, head on. Senghor’s memoir, Writing My Wrongs: Life, Death, and Redemption in an American Prison, was released in March 2016 and debuted on The New York Times Best Seller List as well as The Washington Post Best Seller List.

" I was locked into a narrative that gave my life limited possibilities " - this is a profound statement. Thank you for sharing your story as I had a similar childhood and still struggle to overcome limitations within myself that prevent me from creating the healthy productive life that I have always strived for.

Solitude offers an opportunity, if you are ready to embrace it, to find an answer to "WHO AM I?" To honestly acknowledge all of it, what you fear, love, avoid, etc., and find your path through that awareness. DMX almost always showed his true self, Slippin' is it, the words at the beginning... To live is to suffer, to survive is to find meaning in the suffering.

Thank you Sir. This is exactly what I needed to see and hear. Very glad that you are back with your family and loved ones and yes, this moment is divine. Childhood violence and trauma had shaped me into similar mental patterns and I have to remind myself -sometimes several times a day-that I do have the power to change my thinking process and make better choices. Thank you so much for the video because it's a powerful and uplifting reminder. Be well

Wait. So this guy gets the full american life experience, and what he learns from it is: conform to the system that put you through hell, robbed your youth and two decades of your brief human existence, and just go on the rest of your life totally ignoring the fact that you are just one of many millions of people suffering the same things on top of even more who still will as long as this system of terror and suppression is allowed to exist? IS THIS VIDEO PURE TROLLING OR CAN A PERSON TRULY BE THAT STUPID ON ACCIDENT?
@VaughanMcCue
@VaughanMcCue 2 ай бұрын
Could you consider a point raised here? Reading about other lives might give you wisdom and a broader outlook, and you might discover, like the 1400s stargazer Nic Copper Nickers, that the world does not revolve around you.

@@VaughanMcCue With the exception of going off into a wierdo-philosophy land of rolling over and letting the terrorist occupation force that rules us have their way, this guy describes the average american life experience that we all live in. All except the privileged and the parasites ofcourse, but their kind are not part of this nation, so they don't count. What broader perspective do you suggest I might be not considering?
@VaughanMcCue

@@civilsavant6072 I presume you know what you are trying to say, but your emotive rolling around various topics is incoherent. I can't be bothered trying to explain it to you, and I suggest you read something from a genre you have not read before.
