I remember this series as a kid. The matches used to be in India's night time and we used to ask the result in the mornings. I think the result of ODIs series was 2-5. SA played extremely well !!

*_I think wicketkeeper vijay yadav was tremendously talented,but he also got a rough deal from the national selectors.He was very flamboyant in his batting approach and his wicketkeeping was also excellent.Another fast bowler of that era,Subrata Banerjee,was never given ample chances in spite of performing well in limited opportunities._*

@@vaibhavchoudhary4895 *Thousands times better than Mongia ,MSK prasad,Ajay Ratera and **others.In** fact another player of that era Atul Bedade , according to me,was much ahead of the other contemporary players.But surprisingly he never got sufficient opportunities.If he got the chance to play under Sourav Ganguly then he would have been a legend.*

@@dey9293 *Saba karim was a excellent keeper,but not that good with the bat though and sadly he suffered from eye problem which put full stop to his career.Vijay Dahiya was a average keeper and most importantly he got adequate chances to cement his place in the team,but he could not capitalize.*

What an incredible Fielding side SA was even in those days. They really started the sliding , diving culture in fielding & set a benchmark for other cricketing nations.

South african were athelete on fielding time and not cricketer. Rhodes/gibbs/ bacher. Jonty used to save runs while fielding which was more then his batting time.

Fun fact: Sourav Ganguly almost made it to this team. They went for jadeja instead. Amre played a matchwinning innings, and also got a 100 and a 50 in the tests against quality bowlers. Yet he was not selected for home series vs eng which would have cemented his place. The selection was a nightmare!!

@@praveensgads915 At the time I thought vvs is a better option also. But Dinesh Mongia got selected for 2003 WC. He is not bad compared to laxman in odis. Mongia played some very good innings in odis and he bowls part-time. May be politics involved but I don't think 2003 wc final outcome would've changed if vvs played. In 2019 WC, Everyone says Rayudu would have been better but India team vs NZ in semis is very good. He's not better than anyone in that 11. So, outcome would have been same. Its just my opinion but I think as fans no matter which team you support, we get emotional when team loses and come to random conclusions.

You are wrong Pravee Amre did got selected against England in the home series after this SA tour He played in all 3 tests at No 6 His last outing was Hero Cup in Nov 93 after which he was dropped Amre, Manoj Prabhakar & Kiran More were those players who had limited capabilities But were full some in their efforts Unfortunately Prabhakar later on went the wrong way

India always hard fought with SA , so many close matches won by SA simply by their exceptional fielding effecting many run outs and catches. 1992 series, 1996 final match, then in 2003 series .. They did not have great batting units.. but bowling and fielding was exceptional in 90s until 2003

But their batting unit was more professional one. Kirsten, cullinan, cronje, Rhodes , Kallis , Pollock, Macmillan, Hudson all were star on their own day and would certainly chip in with 20-30 runs on bad day also to make team total beyond oppositions reach!

@@dey9293 That is no doubt at all! Yes, tehy chip in for 20-30 as unit but when it comes to crunch matches they fail also for same reasons. No one player stand up to take full responsibility in pressure situation like ponting

Those days they could only score around 225. Rarely 250 or 260. In 1992 world cup Srilanka chased Zimbabwe which scored 312. Lanka was the 1st team to chase the target above 300. In this Ind vs SA series 3rd one day match wil be very interesting. Man of the match Ravi Shastri.

I was in my 8th class at that time...India won 2 matches in this 7 match series...in another match late WB Raman scored a century..i remember Ajay jadeja took one of the best catch of that time in one of the match..

I watched this match.. Hero was Amre and Vijay Yadav... Most useless player ever was Manjrekar.. not sure how come he was in every game... I remember wherever his turn will come, we used to say "test match" started and always pray to get him out fast😅

Follow on bachane ke liye 24 run chahiye the aur 1 wkt hi haath me thi. Kapil dev ne lagaataar 4 balls me 4 sixes maar ke india ko follow on chhe bachaya tha. Wo bhi england ke saamne, unhi ke ground par.
