In March, the free INDYCAR IR18 2023 mod for AMS 2 was released. It provides the full IndyCar 2023 grid with authentic teams & drivers including over 60 liveries distributed between the 4 racing specs as well as a reworked Push-to-Pass system closer to reality than any other, i.e. 200 Seconds of P2P Per Race, 20 Seconds Per Lap Max, disabled on L1.
And with version 2, a special update for the Indy 500 was even released at the end of May, further deepening the experience. It is a great collaborative effort of the modding team and quite rightly one of the most popular mods for AMS 2 currently.
However, with update to V1.4.8, the current Indy cars, as interpreted by Reiza, have now been integrated into the game, as another paid content of the Racin' USA DLC. The question now is: Do the F-USA 2023 now make the INDYCAR mod obsolete or does the free community content still have its justification?
That's what we want to find out today. In a 1-to-1 comparison: I drive a 4-lap race each with F-USA 2023 and the mod on Road America with identical session settings. Which car model feels better? Which series looks better, sounds better? Which one comes closer to the real INDYCAR series? And most importantly, which one is more fun?

Finally, someone playing AMS2 is proper camera settings... as nice as the mod is even still, and very much appreciate the effort gone into it, the modern Reiza Indy car is just amazing to drive, it's tough to beat.

I absolutely recommend watching at least the Indycar highlights from the races this year. Legitimately the best, most exciting races I've seen since the mid-2000s. As for the sounds between the mod and official release, the audio is quite literally the same files. When the original deal with Indycar fell through, Reiza left the sound files for the cars in the game, so that's what the modders used.

@@idaanx 21 season was one for the ages, but aside from a championship battle you dont get the grid wide frenetic racing that you do in indycar.

The DLC Is very similar to the NXT Series. Much like F2 Series in F1. The rear fender bits are maybe a Reiza touch so it can be called a exclusive ams2 DLC model. The MSG situation is very limiting and sad. Hopefully it can be cleared up soon.....

The mod is absolutely awesome. When it first came out it really showed the potential of Ams2 since the driving feel of these cars is amazing. Now since the new physics update Ams2 is on par with the driving feeling of this mod. I hope that the new physics will be applied for all the mods out there too then Ams2 is really on a good way

First of all, I’m new to automobilista 2 and out of all the Contant creator that focus on AMS2. I really appreciate your videos the most.m So I have the Indy mod as well, but it created an Indy group under the cars menu. The USA formula 2023 grouping is in the cars menu but they’re all generic. I didn’t realize you could actually mod the official cars because they do drive better and sound better so which skin did you use to mod the official cars and I thank you for your time in the contacts it’s made learning this particular game a lot easier and more exciting

Thats an issue we know, we actually, work for a new version including the short oval specific liveries from Gateway. Also drivers will get their real helmet too. I will passing on the issue with the speed on road track !

AMS2 also has vintage Indycar series, and if ur into ovals it has countless of stockcar mods too. Also if ur front tyres are eaten up like that, just decrease the brake bias to the rear more, so you will brake more with the rear and save the front tyres, you can do that while driving, no need for a pitstop.

Great video! 👍 I follow all sorts of motorsport, including F1, but I'm a huge fan of IndyCar. The p2p rules you're talking about make the sport incredibly fun to watch. A lot of race strategy relies on managing boost. In fact, this season Romain Grosean actually lost p1 late in a race due to running out of p2p. F1 should definitely consider adopting those sort of rules for DRS.

What I watched in the comparison is the tyre wear. I've noticed that the wear in the Indy mod is very fast. I experienced this for myself when I installed it. Comparing now with Reizas Indy, there is a huge difference. I don't think it's right with the modded version.

For the official cars did you change the names to the real IC drivers or is that in the game? I only ask because I might reinstall this game if the immersion feels real. I loved the IR18 mod but it would frequently crash my system if I played around with multi class races

I think it's worth mentioning, Indycar adjusts the boost pressure per track, from around 550HP to 800HP, and I don't think the mod can actually do that?

Timo. They Just Freshly Paved Road America a Month before the Indy Car Race. So the Times for 2023 will be Alot Faster. What's Amazing though is that the 1999-2000 Champ Cars are Still overall faster than the Current Indy Car Also IndyCar Is Developing an Hybrid with A lot more Power IndyCar Racing is 10x Better Racing than F1 at the Moment

The KAOS mod is too bolted down on the ovals. It is akin to slot racing.

The Reiza F-USA is cool, and the physics are good, but the car is so far removed from the real thing in terms of style that I wouldn't pay for it. The IndyCar mod is free, plus it's the real life design of the cars, which is to me more immersive than slightly better physics.
