The dots are between the rover's tracks. These marks are from mass spectrometer testing with a module on the bottom of the rover. It's job is to report back the composition of the surface.

At the beginning of the program, in the first panoramic photos I found a structure similar to this, it looked like pergola wood, supporting a rock, or used as a prison next to a large stone. Since I didn't have a ruler, I couldn't tell the size. but it's there in the photos from the first year.
