At least there was a happy ending here unlike Marty... Poor little guy. He was too wild for his own good and died within 2 years of settling in at the Kamp. Never heard the "official word" on WHY Marty passed away but it wasn't a cold snap like Slinky experienced (and survived). Keenan as I remember thinks Marty ate a poisoned toad. They have them in Florida.

Maybe you can upgrade her water feature to a "patio pond" with plants and running/filtered water since she liked your rec pond area so much, and more live plants for cover would be awesome and would help give a visual barrier between her and the python.

Oh my gosh.... it is the WORST feeling looking for a missing pet! Your heart is in your throat with dread and anxiety. On the flip side, it's the BEST feeling in the world when you find them!! I can't even say how happy I am for you that you found her! It is a true testiment to your care that she quite literally took the bait with the pinkies, as it was something familiar to her. Thank God!!!!

I totally agree. I didn't even realise how much I loved some of my animals until they went missing and then my heart just stopped and I went into full panic mode. SO glad you found her!!!

I personally would keep her indoors until she gets at least double her size . But if you do keep her outside which it looks like you are I would put a visual barrier between her and the snakes so she doesn’t get stressed from seeing them. I’m glad you caught her

I definitely agree with this my monitors don’t like seeing my snakes. It’s the only time I see my monitors bug out and take off running. I’ll try and get it on film but idk if I like the idea of frightening my monitors It kinda defeats the concept of threads of trust #NERD . It makes sense snakes are predators in the wild and given the chance would feed on monitors. It can’t hurt, it’s only another step to making the enclosures stronger.

I lost my first beardie on my buildings terrace when I was 13. Went to school the next day depressed and didn’t talk to any of my friends. 2 weeks later my neighbor found her running through the hallway of our building. The feeling of getting her back is was so reassuring. Like a wave of guilt coming off ur shoulders

Hi Kenan she is one smart little female. She had a nice adventure. She knew that she had to hide from other predators, and she loves water. I knew she would be close, because she was hungry. She knows you feed her, so she must been happy to see those pinkies. Glad that you saw her, and was able to catch her. Now that she has had a taste of freedom, she will try again.🐢🐍🦎♥️ Cindy

I’m so happy you found her! I remember a few years ago my cat actually got outside. We had the windows open and he went after a lizard on the other side of the screen, and the screen broke. He was gone for two days, and my heart was broken I thought I had lost my baby boy forever. And one night the family was sitting down watching TV and I saw him outside on the back porch through the screen glass door. I opened the doors and Lured him in with some food and he came inside. I haven’t open the windows in the house since then LOL.

Monitor lizard intelligence is awesome this is what makes them the true lizard kings and my favourite reptiles, hope it never happens again! Oh when Keenan commented on not wanting a dog I had to smile to myself and think that big monitors are in many ways the dogs of the reptile world, they will eat whatever a wild dog eats, they are intelligent, they recognise their owner and they even kill their prey just like a dog does! Congratulations on getting her back and hope you eventually get a male that gets as big as slinky.

I know exactly what you were feeling. Years ago we lost a young Bearded Dragon outside, jumped out of my son’s hands, and got away. I looked for hours on the what happened to be the hottest day of the year to no avail. I was dehydrated, dirty and tired after a few hours so I gave up. After a day of being missing and thinking about all the bad things could be happening to the poor thing, I went back out to look one more time. The first bush that I spread open - she was sitting there looking right at me. What a feeling. I think that this event created a bond that I otherwise would not have had with her. She is so important to me. I believe you will also create a special bond with Inky like you have with Slinky due to this.

Most certainly the worst feeling. My second snake escaped from a latched enclosure, because I didn't realize he was strong enough to push his way out. I was completely heartbroken for three weeks. I've never felt relief like I did when I found him trying to climb into the washer. Thankful that I had to keep them inside, or he would've been gone. Glad the pond attracted her and you got your baby back!

I have a California kingsnake that has gotten out twice in the 18 years that I've had her. The first time she was gone for six months! I never thought I would get her back. I had a baby bird on the kitchen counter in a carrier that I had rescued. I went to feed the bird, and found the damn snake in the carrier. She ate the baby bird and couldn't get out if the carrier afterwards! The second time, she was gone for a couple of days. My son found her in the recycling box we had inside the house. She has a better locking cage now. Glad you got Inky back.

WOW! It's so great that you managed to find her! I lost a Mourning Gecko in my house once and if you know anything about mourning geckos it's that they are very small! I thought for sure she was gone for good. Cut to a week later when I was cleaning one of my fish tanks in my critter room, I look through the glass and see a shadow on the outside of the background. Low and behold, there she was, just hanging out on the back of the tank right by the H.O.B filter! So lucky! Glad to see your spirit lifted back up after you found her, the stress looked REAL!

We lost our BP in the first month we had her bc we didn't realize she was tall/strong enough to push the lid aside a bit to wiggle out. Thankfully found her in an hr (she was hiding behind the bookcase her tank was on 🙄. Lol it happens. We learn and do better. Glad you found her an that there is a happy ending ^_^ no worries! Like you said before part of keeping a large amount of reptiles is that they do get sick and pass away!! Even with the best medical care and food and lifestyle it just happens sometimes!! Therefore there is always a chance that they can escape no matter how secure there enclosures are! Its all part if it. You did the best job ever, kept calm and a watchful eye and got her back!! Great job! If i were a reptile i would not want to go far from what iam used to. You have everything a reptile could possibly want or desire right there!! The kamp is an amazing place and you provide the best quality of life for these reptiles so they get out they will never go far!

What a little stinker! Baby reptiles are definitely intelligent little fools. My corn snake actually broke her enclosure door when she was a baby and escaped her cage through it. She was my 12th birthday present and was being kept in an old garter snake enclosure. We had a house cat at the time, so like you, I was terrified she would get preyed upon. Thankfully she didn't wander far and that door got fixed immediately. I'm glad Inky got the same happy ending!

Kenan you crazy to think any of your animals would "run away"..LOL They know just how good you are to them and they have it there! Look at Al and all the other animals that come to the Kamp, they know it's a safe place for them to be.. So they may get out on you, but they will never be far! Losing an animal is literally the most dreadful helpless feeling. And especially when it’s more than one day. Our cat got out once and I spent seven hours combing the woods until it was so dark it became dangerous. I’d already fallen into a bunch of thrones, cut my leg, etc an my mom made me go in. Laying their that night knowing he was out there somewhere...god. It was dreadful. Thankfully the next morning I walked into our bathroom, looked out the window, and there he was sitting on my dad’s truck. I was so afraid he’d run from me or something so I went out all slowly with a bag of treats. He came right up to me like “oh hey, sup? I’ve had a crazy night! What about you?”
