You should shoot some super slow mo of that AK at various different gas positions. Would be interesting to see how far the bolt comes back and how hard it impacts the back of the action at different gas settings.

calska140 Finding out what the labor cost to install it can put you over the top. I guess that's why I still fix my own stuff, ( when possible), I just can't seem to bring myself to pay someone else to do what I can do myself.

Jerry Long Always a good idea. Some cars though... Holy shit. I've seen cars where the engine needed to be pulled of the mounts to access the alternator I'm not a mechanic so in that case I'm paying someone to do that, someone who's work is guaranteed. Seems pretty evil to put an alternator in that location I hope there's a solid engineering reason for that. Also if your engine design has a horizontally mounted oil filter: fuck you.

As a lefty using a stock Swedish AK4 in service, the absolute most annoying things are the sling attachements which make the rifle want to hang upside down on its own. It makes it impossible to carry around regularily without some customisation. I have never considered safety or charging handle unwieldy. Using left eye for aiming means the right side of your face gets blasted with gases and residue from the ejection port which can get irritating (especially when shooting blanks).

I'd really like to see a completely new philosophy with a WWKD rifle. The Stoner build was all about minimizing weight while minimizing other trade offs. Reducing weight is always worthwhile, but I think the primary focus for this build project should be about reducing cost.

I've built an AK not dissimilar to yours, Karl, but in 7.63x39. I added the Russian rubber buttpad to increase LoP. Haven't added optics yet but I'm probably going to go with an attero arms mount with a micro reflex. The 7.62x39 with a tiny triangle buttplate was pretty harsh, so I put a VG6 Epsilon AK, and a KNS piston into it and oh my Lord, what a difference. Can't recommend the KNS piston enough. So good.

I'm really looking forward to the WWKD series. The rifle I have in mind is basically (an abuse of terms) an AKM-74S, but in 7.62 for undisputed logistic are ballistic benefits over here on the coast. The complex mechanical stuff I'll figure out on my own, but the accessories and sling choice (what sling, where to mount, how to wear) I'll definitely take from you guys.

GunFun ZS find someone who would dispute the ballistic and logistic benefit of 7.62x39mm M43 ammunition over 5.45x39mm ammunition. Go ahead, I'll wait.
@riverstyxarmory9782
@riverstyxarmory9782 6 жыл бұрын
GunFun ZS that's why I'm choosing 7.62. if everything was equal logistically if choose 5.45. the lesser barrier penn and greater disturbance from hitting things like tree branches would be justified by it's better terminal ballistics. And yes, I believe that something "ballistic" (although you don't specify which one) is undisputed by anyone reasonably minded. M43 and 7N6 don't change. Those are controlled variables. The standards are set. Physics had not changed since the inception of either cartridge, so any tests and sounds reasoning holds true to this day.

I can say the TWS dog leg setup is impressively effective and is lighter than a side rail option, I don't know specifically by how much but it takes a steel leaf sight, spring, elevation adjustment knob, dust cover and replaces it with about the same volume material aluminum thats also minus the entire side rail assembly especially if your rifle doesn't come with one (like my ras47).

I get their intended purpose, but I'm not well versed with firearms enough to understand the root of the problems, could you make a realiable quad stack mag if you for instance designed a weapon from the ground up to support quad stack mags? RedSaint83 and the biggest mistake was not shooting the gun enough to get it right. Those KNS adjustable gas pistons are great, but I could tell from the ejection that Karl's gun had too much bypass. Went on overseas training in germany when I was in the army many years ago. Got a silver Schützenschnur just so you know I know what I'm talking about (one pistol miss kept me from the gold). 1 - G3 is indestructible in the field until you lose one of the non-captive retaining pins. I know, how the fuck do you lose the pins between pulling them out of the receiver and putting them in the buttstock? Well, grunts find a way. 2 - slapping up on the mag during loading is not in the manual of arms. Ian did a fantastic job of keeping that out of the process. He would have kept a german sergeant from yelling at him. They hate that for some reason. 3 - Ian did a great job handling the recoil impulse as well. The G3 is fairly unforgiving. But a workhorse nonetheless

Hey Karl, nice setup on that 74! Question, how's the eye relief for you with the Warsaw length buttstock? I ended up getting the JMAC customs Mod2 adapter and it's much better with magnified optics.

I could see MK making a 3kg AK with stamped 2mm g5 titanium receiver on that 6mm universal cartridge they were developing in the 80s. I mention titanium due to the massive soviet titanium industry and its use in military projects, from all titanium submarines to body armor. I honestly believe that they would do something like that, but not necessarily to make it that much lighter, but rather more rigid, durable and rust proof in marine conditions. (if the soviet union hadnt collapsed that is)

Amazing how that tac.fairey is able to do all the rounds and still find time to make up their complimentary range crablegs.

Karl and Ian, what are your thoughts and feelins on this G3 compared to your experience with the SCAR-H, how is the impulse and accuracy different between the two. Also FOI Karl it would be interesting to see you try a Norwegian/Swedish stocks buttstock, since they are 2 cm longer then the stock G3 buttstock from HK, just to see if what your thoughts are, if nothing else, oh, mudtest on this newfangled G3, even if you have pervious test with Karl's gun, since this new one seem to have more ingress points overall?

While I love the look of the zentico pt-1, I went with the pt-3 for my ak and it is quite light and very well built.

That G3 is an awesome gun indeed :-) Seating the mag while prone ain't too bad. Manual of arms dictates that you rotate the gun 90 degrees clockwise (for a right handed shooter) so that the mag is sticking out sideways in front of your face, pull it out, stuff it in your coat, insert a new one and give it a whack to seat it.

Could a temperature difference have made your gas system fail you like that? I've never played around with the gas system on a firearm before, but what happened to you reminds me of setting the jets on a carburetor (used to pit crew races) you can set them up and have the engine running real strong, but let the air temp be off a few degrees or have it be a little different humidity and the whole system won't work right.

I changed my bird cage to a J-comp V2 by Strike. It does everything fairly well. Brake, flash hider and comp without too much muzzle blast. I like the way it looks on the PTR 91 too.
