If there’s one food you think about when you think of Jamaica, it’s probably Jamaican jerk - and that’s for a pretty good reason - it’s one of the greatest dishes of Jamaica and something they should be proud of. When you’re in Jamaica, you must taste the real deal - and we had a chance to visit one of the best places to eat Jerk pork, and on the same day, Andrew - a Jamaican jerk competition champion, cooked us an entire jerk pig! #JamaicanFood #Jerk #Caribbean
Huge thank you to Pineapple Beach ( / pineapplebeachja ) for hosting us, to Andrew for cooking an amazing jerk pig, and Matt ( / jamaicafoodboss ) for arranging everything!
Tastee Patty - Jamaican Patties - But before getting started with Jamaican jerk, we first had some Jamaican patties, my first taste. They were incredibly tasty, better than I had imagined. I can see how they are so addictive and popular.
Fresh market in Montego Bay - Next we headed to the fresh market in Montego Bay to buy some of the main ingredients to make an entire jerk pig. One of the spices you can’t make jerk without is allspice, known in Jamaica as pimento.
Pineapple Beach - Montego Bay, Jamaica - Here’s where Andrew cooked up his amazing jerk pig. Started with lots of allspice, do a dry rub, and then moving on to the wet marinade that included scotch bonnet, thyme, pimento and a host of other ingredients and spices. The jerk pig turned out outstanding, so much flavor, and full of spice. It was a real treat. Thank you Andrew!
The Pork Pit - Montego Bay, Jamaica - One of the best places to eat Jamaican jerk bbq in all of Jamaica is The Pork Pit, located in Montego Bay. The spices and they way they smoke the meat is just next level. While the whole jerk pig was cooking, we slipped over to the Port Pit for a massive Jamaican food jerk bbq feast of jerk pork and jerk chicken with their stunning scotch bonnet sauce.
It was another incredible day of delicious Jamaican food in Jamaica. Watch the entire Jamaican food series here: • Jamaican Street Food i...

One thing I love about the Caribbean is every island basically has it's own 'breakfast' food. I remember in Trini. literally everyone was on the streets at doubles stalls. I also love how Mark showed the rough water and rainy days. Not overly glorifying the island life, showing it how it is. I miss it so much.

This Jamaican series is one of the best set of videos. He gets into the culture and traditions of Ja. When I saw the patties I lost my mind. ☄💣🔥🇯🇲. As a Jamaican I respect the recognition for the country and to show people how friendly and loving the people are and not just going off stereotypes. After this I'm definitely taking a trip back home soon...

I would not say the Jamaicans are friendly and loving as a whole or off the bat. Certainly not. Do they love life and are a spirited people? Yes. But, friendly no. It's a very gritty place. I have been there.

@Benjamin Padilla, I've lived there for 21 years and tried the entire island. If you move shaky they are going to treat you as such. You look down on us from a high horse we are going to make sure you get off and see life the way we do which is rough/ruff. Only thing we have is each other, because no one cares for us like each other. The government tries but only put themselves first before the people. So kindly dont speak what you only know partially about. Thank you

The Wife and I go to Negril on a regular basis. 3 Dives is our favorite Jerk Station and we're both big on the Jerk Chicken. We went during the off season one year and we got to hang out around the grill and they taught us how to make their Jerk marinade. You can get pimento logs shipped to America but it's very pricey,we use the traditional wood a couple times a year when we just have to have the real thing. For those who want the best jerk marinade in a bottle get online and order some Spur Tree Jerk Marinade,it comes straight from Jamaica. We buy the gallon jugs and freeze them in single serving sizes. Put the marinade under the skin of your chicken and let set overnight. Use the extra to make your jerk sauce. A little ketchup, some brown sugar,a little honey and if you like it really hot a couple of scotch bonnets or some habanero's,they're basically the same pepper.

Growing up in Toronto, we had a huge Jamaican population. Jamaican patties were a staple available in any variety store. My school cafeteria even served them. Used to be able to get them in a sandwich. Love em. Especially the ones with the red dot...SPICY.
