That “drill type thing” is actually the pinion gear for a car rear axle. It attaches the drive shaft by a universals joint, and to the rear axle by a ring gear. The pinion and ring gears have beveled gears so they can mesh at a 45 degree angle. This turns the axles and rear (sometimes also the front) wheels. The number of gear splines on the pinion and the number of the splines on the ring gear give you the “axle ratio” or number of turns of the drive shat to the number of turns of the wheels. So you have a 3.73, a 4.11, or a 4.65, or whatever combo the manufacturers offer. Hope this helps and keep up the good work Broski!!! You Rock!!!!

@@alanhinkel420 Hey Alan…all but totally certain it’s automotive. I was seeing a car window crank, a Ford starter solenoid, differential spider gears, a speedometer gear housing, and more. With that auto shop just up river, it’s a pretty sure bet. but whoever the knuckleheads were that threw all that in the river, they should be made to clean it all up, then fined heavily and then jailed.

The coin slot thing is a bottle cap opener, like for old fashioned coke bottles. Originally found on bottle coolers like found outside of gas stations. But they were sold to folks to mount at home to open bottles when they got home from the store. The slot at bottom was where the bottle cap fell into a trash can.

There's the floating dock on that river or channel that Fisher & Finding Father keep pulling stuff out of. They haven't even cleared the area around the dock yet; haven't even bothered trying to fish the actual river. I think they have, like, 5 or 6 vids up from that spot alone. But yeah, this bridge is insane. You don't suppose the US Olympic hammer-throw team was practicing here, tossing machine parts and bikes over, just to see what distance they could get? ;)

@@alanhinkel420 crank is from a car or tractor engine,,,the clue here is the cross pin at the engine end. It fits into an angle slot on the end of the crankshaft,,,,,called a crankshaft because its the engine shaft you engage to crank the engine,,,the crankshaft slot that accepts the pin is cut at an angle such that when the engine starts, it turns much faster than the guy doing the cranking and kicks the crank out such that it doesnt spin rapidly and break his arm. Ask a guy who has used one and had his spark timing set too early such that it back fires! Crankshaft/crank will then kick in reverse and cant eject the crank and may well break his wrist or arm by going in the wrong direction and he cant let go. Thank goodness for electric starters of today!!

I love your videos! Your genuine excitement is contagious. I'm am from the area you are fishing and have recognized many of your spots. I actually tried fishing on the abandoned railroad bridge from your video maybe a week ago. I got my first railroad spike!! Thanks for getting me into magnetic fishing!! BTW: Those "clams" are actually Zebra Mussels. They are incredibly invasive and spread easily. The edges are really sharp. While swimming in the many lakes in the area, I've cut my feet on them several times. They also clog up the intake pipes for the factories in the area. I'm glad you're wearing gloves. Please be sure to NOT put them back in the river or any other waterway. I love that you're cleaning the river of recyclable metal AND those awful Zebra Mussels!!

If you look them up you’ll see the gear that goes down to the foot of the motor has a shaft and the gears in the foot don’t have a shaft. I’m 99.9% sure that’s what they are. I am a marine mechanic. The handle thing you found looks like a crank handle for an old car. Like 1910 - 1930 possibly. They had an electric start but you could also crank them with a handle. Hope this helps. You wondered how a bike ended up in the middle of the river: River currents don't look like much but they can be powerful. Someone probably stole the bike years ago and threw it in. Then it was pulled into a current and eventually washed into the center, where our hero -- (insert fanfare) *MAGNETMAN!!* -- pulled it up with his trusty 360-degree weapon of retrieval!!! Magnet-fishing after a flood will bring up all manner of interesting items, some having been down for decades!

Those "drills" are actually worm drive gears, used a lot in transmissions. It was nice seeing you in New London today.

Locks in some area means a lost love one when they are hanging on a fence or tree the piece you thought was a coin return item was actually a license plate light holder and the items with gears could also be items for a distributor
