In this video we look back at our time filming inside a juvenile detention center as we follow girls and boys during their time inside. Our cameras also followed detention center Supervisor Jamie during a typical day on the job. Jamie had a good rapport with the kids in her care. In this video we see the difference in dealing with girls who are locked up vs. teenage boys who were at the same detention center. The girls were locked up inside a separate cell pod than the boys, but Jamie and the other detention center staff covered the entire detention center when working with kids who had been arrested for juvenile offenses.

The girl who was working 3 jobs since she was 13 and can pass an algebra 2 class snd has a solid business plan, I think she has the ability to do it. She has the skills. I guess it just comes down to does she have the moral integrity and social skills. If she can pull herself together socially and morally, she can do it.

She never had someone encouraging her that she can or could it. It’s heartbreaking how someone can do this to a child.

Truency and running away should NEVER be a crime. The likelihood of someone being a truant or running away for a good reason is high. Kids usually don’t run away from their families unless there is some problem within the family. Likewise kids might bd truants because they are being bullied or abused at school. These kids need help not punishment for trying to protect themselves. But even if kids are truants just because they want to stay home and play games all day, that’s not a crime!!! We let kids violently snd criminally destroy cities and businesses and assault people like we are presently seeing in Chicago and the mayor and police just basically say kids will be kids, but a kid who runs away we say “ lock them up” what sort of evil is that!!! People don’t know right from wrong anymore! Society is messed up.

I’m disappointed. I wanted an update on the girl with the business plan. I wanted to know if she made it, but i am glad the first girl made it. She should have just been given emancipation rights from her family as a teenager and given the right to formally drop out of school and get a job with the opportunity to get free GED training and direction to college classes rather than throwing her in prison. I guess Jaime burned out but she seemed much more personable and humanizing with the kids than other officers.

From what we understand, Jamie didn’t want to leave the job. As for the other girl, we wish we knew too. It can sometimes be very difficult to find kids once they leave the system. We appreciate you watching their stories and taking the time to comment!

@@CalamariProductions that’s too bad that jaime was forced to leave. Thank you for answering my question about the other girl. Sometimes no news is good news!

Marie, having no support, money, ideas about what she wants to do with her future, is horrible. What do they get in these places? She is getting housing where she can learn to be an adult?? It does not work like that. I hope that place gave her guidance and support.

Self reliance at 13 good luck sooo unsafe happens all the time never judge one u haven't been in thier shoes. They will loose there inner child. Development has lost out. However, time geos on and then the resentment emotional challenge will occur thereapy will need to take place when older. Due to loss of their child hood. They talking a good game 😁✅

I love that girls attitude and the C.O I like her BUT she is acting kinda negative. It will be hard, and tell her that but also push that she CAN do it more than she is.

She did tell the girl she could do it but she also wanted her to know it would be hard and wanted her to be prepared for that. The reality is most businesses fail in the first year. She didn’t tell her that but she did want her to be prepared to have to work hard to make it. Also most of these kids i imagine don’t have a support network so for this girl to talk about going to college and getting 3 buildings for 3 different businesses right off the bat would be unrealistic for most people but in her case it sounds like the girl might have economic privileges that others don’t have which Jaime wasn’t aware of when she started the conversation. So she was just trying to talk realistically with her without bursting her bubble. I think she handled it well.
