The Olympic Headquarters, In Lausanne, Switzerland, is one of the most sustainable buildings in the world holding three sought-after sustainability credentials, including LEED Platinum. It is an incredible feat of sustainable architecture using the highest quality green building materials and local support in design and construction. Olympic House boasts a truly conscientious workspace, while still ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for both employees and visitors.
Thank you to the International Olympic Committee for welcoming us in and showing us around this amazing space. Some clips in this video belong to © International Olympic Committee.

Noooo now I wish I could inside this place is absolutely amazing!! One of my favorites that you've visited. I really fell like I learned a lot though this, from cool Olympics facts to amazing uses of renewable energy. Then there is the architecture, omg the architecture its stunning!!! Thanks so much for making this video and for making your channel without it I wouldn't have learned so much.

Lausanne is a beautiful city and this building seems very impressive. I've walked & been past there in taxis before this was started but I'd love to go back there again and have a look at it for myself (from the outside/public areas!)

I have trouble seeing how a building with 90+% steel/alu/glass façades could be called environmentally sustainable let alone be called "one of the most sustainable buildings in the world". Sure, there are some bicycles, biological carrot cakes and probably (hopefully) some smiling employees, but other than that the project looks like a very standard contemporary corporate office development. Solar panels, on-site water management and light mobility infrastructure can barely be called sustainable strategies today, as not only are they increasingly mandatory in several regions, but their significance to the overall impact of the building is also limited. I do not deny that every one of these taken steps is not commendable. Every small action of course contributes to the whole, and in some of the respects the building is probably still a front-runner compared to industry standards. At the same time however, every one of its actions represents the barest minimum. In light of the planetary footprint represented by the Olympics as a whole (transportation, waste, disruptive urban development with very high social (Rio!) and environmental costs, ...) it is very hard to not see this "sustainable" HQ and the communication about it as plain greenwashing of which the benefits pale in comparison to the damage that the organisation does to the planet as a whole. It would be nice to see online communities with an interest in sustainable construction stop talking about labels like BREEAM or LEED as indicators of (environmental) sustainability for buildings, since none of these even integrate any kind of benchmarking of CO2 emissions (or other env. indicators) and start adopting the ideas and attitudes that are actually needed if we want to transition our construction economy into a sustainable one. Which is not to say the video was not well made, which it certainly was. ( some things I was looking for in "the most sustainable building in the world": use of bio-ecological materials, material efficiency through bioclimatic design (less glazed surfaces!), reuse of construction materials on a significant scale (ex. for façades, interior finishings (didn't see any natural or reused material in the interiors), reusing on-site crushed concrete in new foundations is a positive strategy but has neglectable effects on the impact of the new concrete (max 5% reduction) since real impacts are due to cement -> lighter (wooden) structures and less glazing would have resulted in less loads and reduced size of foundations ... )

Very disappointing presentation, I came here looking for useful information for my coursework regarding sustainable buildings. All I got was olympic propaganda, no figures on energy savings, or illustrations on how energy and water is saved within the building. To have a platinum status from LEED there has must be a lot of sustainable stuff going on. You should have concentrated on that rather than irrelevant info relating to the history and future games. PS. I worked at the Olympics, 2012 in London. I was at most of the locations and I can tell you from first hand experience there is a hell of a lot of waste created by these games of materials, food, labour and litter. As there are many contractors who are going to charge the local government for everything so they don't care and any supervision purely related to getting tasks done and following safety procedures.

There are plenty of other videos and sources of information out there. Also, of course there’s plenty of waste, but every year greater efforts are being made to reduce and change this. Good luck on your coursework. 👍
