Fantastic! Boehly - "He's an innovator and perfectly fits our vision for the club." Might sound funny coming from an American but I think it's great that an English manager is getting a chance to run an elite team with very real chances at winning European and domestic trophies! It's been awhile. Which player will benefit most? *All of them!* And now Christian Pulisic will get the only thing he's wanted all along: to be judged *on his actual performance* and to be given the chance... not the guarantee... the chance... to show what he can do.

Tuchle has been through what has been a perfect storm. His divorce, Chelsea sanctions and state forced sale, new owners removing all hierarchy, becoming the main point of media reference for all going ons with Chelsea, bickering players around all those changes. Worst period for any coach possibly ever.

I don't think he did not enjoy having a say in transfers , but in reality you're only one person, one coach. Its the extra work, pressure and added technical responsibility of doing a director of football's job that kills you. And maybe that's what he meant in saying he does not enjoy it...

@hnaku8748
@hnaku8748 Жыл бұрын
I'm sure he was more than okay with the say in transfers if the past evidence is to go by. But the new expected role(at least reportedly) from the manager from now is to be more than that. For example, Thomas had to give his input on next director of football. That's not just say in transfers and on pitch stuff, but also the overall working process of the club. Which he has never been familiar with. Perhaps it overwhelmed him. Potter is expected to do similar now. And the new regime probably sees him as better fit. That's the only logical sense for the early sacking. While initially the owners had good impression, they found out Tuchel wasn't the guy for the new role in the brief spell since takeover. Where the managerial role is more expanded than it ever was under Roman. Just like most of previous regime were victims of circumstance, Thomas Tuchel was too.

Let's just gloss over Champions League victory, the European Super Cup win, the World Club cup success (all under Tuchel). And let's omit to mention him having to steady the ship under the sanctions imposed by the UK government after the Russian invasion of Ukraine of 24th February and the subsequent freezing of bank accounts, an inability to recruit any fresh talent whilst Abrahamovich remained at the helm, the fact that literally the entire boardroom and management at the club have been pensioned-off, and of course there was the misfiring £89m superstar striker who couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo during his season at Stamford Bridge... I think that The Todd would have been hard-pressed to find anyone who could have coped better under such circumstances. The new owners hardly went out of their way to inspire confidence in Tuchel, despite his proven abilities and obvious success.

So, they quickly looked around, did their research and nailed down a couple of possible candidates who would fit their model. Todd & Co., I am sure, won't be too upset if they don't get too far in CL. Winning the EPL is their focus. Remember that the pinnacle of North American sporting success is winning your league. Chelsea fan here. I had very similar view. But I think contrary to their initial impression, the new regime found out late that Thomas was not actually suitable for their desired role, which is more than just coaching. And tried to grind it through while they came up with alternatives. The quickness of how the Potter deal got wrapped up suggests it was already brewing very early and they had plans in place. Sacking TT early in preseason would have been very bad PR, also there were many evident holes in squad which needed to be addressed in very less time no matter who the manager was. Also details now coming out that actually it wasn't completely TT's signing as many were led to believe. Maybe has more to it. Never know what actually happened behind scenes. One thing is for sure, the new regime certainly know how to do their PR game. I fell for it the whole preseason. This is the first stumble where some(including me) have went "hold on a minute...".

Trying to find a silver lining in this. I can honestly say I’ve LOVED watching Brighton play the past 6-8 months. Exciting, attacking, progressive. All we can do is support Potter. The reason Tuchel work so well under Roman ownership was he gets to do exactly what he wanted which is coaching and Roman was always stern about not giving coach a say in regards to recruitment cos hes got Marina for that role. But now under Boehly maybe he wants the manager to be more involved in making those decisions which Tuchel dislikes to do as it distracted him from his work on the pitch, hence why I think we brought in Potter and and his backroom staffs which include head of recruitment. It's why I think the long-term contract is justified despite what anyone has to say about it.

It’s very easy to draw overly simple and facile conclusions from what has happened. Just because Chelsea have historically hired and fired managers based solely on results doesn’t mean to say that this is what’s happening now. Likewise just because Boehly has never owned a PL team before it doesn’t mean he’s going to make a mess of it. I’m fact many decisions seem to make perfect sense.

And if you want to talk about young players, it was Tuchel that wanted to get rid of Gilmour, not Boehly. I understand the decision, but still think the new regime miscalculated some things early on. If they had their research done well, they'd have well known what they were getting with Thomas Tuchel. A fantastic coach, who's just that. Not a sporting director or even an advisor like Ragnick and other figures. I excuse them as a Chelsea fan because they are new and learning as well. But ideally it could have been smoother than this abrupt sacking and pile of PR confusion. Hopefully things get better now. I agree with the hiring of Potter.

Boehly wants to change the system in Chelsea, similar to LA Dodgers. Dodgers is successful because the way the owner, the manager and the squad communicate is like we are one, we are all The LA Dodgers, collaborative style. It's a big difference than Abramovic, he cares about the club but communication between Abramovic and the manager is limited and less involved; he leaves it to the manager. Graham Potter, Tony Bloom and the Brighton squad atmosphere similar to the Dodgers, they are involved and collaborated. I think that's why Boehly wants Potter right away, after observing Graham Potter when Chelsea was negotiating a contract for Cucurella.

It isn't a five second work as many assume it to be. These are dedicated roles for a reason. And it was not only about recruitment of players, but also things like advice on who to bring on as director of football. That's a whole different thing to what most coaches train for. But that's the void Potter is seen as more capable of filling. It's a new structure/role. The 'holistic' approach as some are saying. Tuchel is still a fantastic coach, just a victim of circumstance. The sacking wasn't based on just results.

I think Brighton though Potter would be offered the England job after the World Cup. The list of English managers in Premiership is not not long, Lampard and Gerard are not having much joy and Potter looked a shoe in. If he was offered the England manager Brighton would have to release him perhaps without the high level of compensation. That said it leaves Brighton with a huge hole in its coaching staff as other members will also leave. As 2 years is about as long as you get at Chelsea I would not be surprised to see Potter back at Brighton as he was the perfect fit for Brighton with its enterprising recruitment of young players

Completely ignoring the fact that Tuchel went through a divorce, stress of holding the team together, having to manage the media and not having a summer off? Finding it weird that Tuchel doesn't want to be in charge of transfers, despite making it clear from the start that he doesn't want to be in charge of it. Not questioning that the ownership made a decsion based off football results, without a director of football, despite it being agreed that they have no knowledge of football or the english game Liam Towney is so much better when it comes to Chelsea news as he leaves his biases at the door.

Not saying that Tuchel wouldn't have been able to eventually find a solution but I definitely felt we still had a ways to fall before any potential upside, and I really wasn't enjoying the style of football we were playing. You can think whatever you want about Pulisic but business is business and we’re talking $100’s of millions with American audience coming up to World Cup. It is a very sad end to a brilliant Head Coach. Being a Chelse fan I would always have him on a pedestal for getting our second Champions League title. All said however I never found the team as a dominant team. Each match there was an uncertainty with the play. Never was there an assured performance where we dominated from the start. Somehow we would always have a hard fought 1-0 win or a later 2nd goal after 80 min. I saw Man City or Liverpool having an assured match which they dominated. Now we see Lukaku and Werner performing in other teams. Their opponents may be not strong enough but still they need to score. The gradual upgrade in play was absent in the manegerial career of Tuchel. He did a masterclass in his match with Conte recently. But that was it. The last high. Sad to see him go.

Let's be honest, tuchel inherited a squad that had already been built and blooded by previous managers and staff. He inherits great teams or teams on the verge of greatness. He hasn't built or maintained one. He's clever but he isn't a level of manager that can build, maintain and control an entire club.

AVB won Europa treble with Porto before arriving. This is more like Sarri, just that Potter at least has Swedish Cup to his name.

Tuchel played most player out of position but has more than 2 player in one position

That is the main reason for his failure players such as pulsic and zyach were not happy with their positions. He should have look back to their former club how they were playing and learn how to play him I think touchel is dictator who just stick to his mind if he a player doesnt play good where he puts in he has to bench him he doesn’t think twice why so players such as pulsic and zyach were stars at their former clubs there must be a reason for not performing at least half as before as a coach you got to think you paid a lot of money to get them but cos simply they don’t perform wheel as u wish and bench them is nonsense may be he got over stacked with players and have a lot of options. Too many players is not good for some players
