A few months back in the summer when it was raining every day I pulled up at customers house and driveway was full so I had to pull my truck up in yard right by the street. I started unloading and it was raining pretty good and I picked up my Bosch telescoping pole off for my laser level off the back of the truck and the pivoting end-cap of the pole that touches the ceiling fell off ..... it falls right on the side of the street where the water is channeled and starts floating down the street and there was a gutter about 15 feet ahead and then it all hit me ..... this is just like the book "IT" by Stephen King! If it had gone into the gutter theres no doubt I would have heard " Hey Laser Boy. I see you lost your pole cap. What a shame.. Hey I'll give it back to you!." coming from that gutter.

I love your channel. I ALWAYS learn something. It never fails to surprise me how much you know coupled with how young you are. I must have been very lazy! I like your tool reviews, and have often followed up on your reviews by buying one thing or another. Often, however, the tools you recommend are better suited to a professional, who can gain value from these tools. This laser looks great, and useful, but not for my home shop when I consider its price. Keep up the good work! Im not getting this tool, but I still learned a lot!

Thanks Spencer for the review. I just bought the Milwaukee 3 plane laser a couple weeks ago when my Bosch GLL 2-20 (red beam) gave up the ghost. I researched the other Milwaukee laser options and decided to spend the extra money and go with the 3 plane which provides a plumb point as you explained in your review. I have an equal amount of DeWalt and Milwaukee tools so I wouldn't consider taking on a third battery platform to save on the initial purchase of another brand. I use my Fast Cap 3rd Hand and magnetic mount with no problems. Although it does require me to mount the laser at 90 degrees on the mount due to the increased laser size, but that doesn't change a thing.

I’ve been using the DeWalt three plane laser and I have often wished that they had vertical plumbing bench-marks; however, I’m still not sure if the loss of the third reference line is a viable trade off. Great review Spencer, I’ve dealt with many of the other issues you have encountered with the DeWalt but it still a great value compared to Stabila and Bosch. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

I was using an old Bosch redline laser and when it came time to switch the green line laser options seemed slim especially for the cost. I ended up getting a heuspar (sp?) 3 plane laser off Amazon which is serviceable. I don’t think it is as bright as the Milwaukee but it was less than half the price and it has the third plane. I don’t often use the third plane but when you need it, you really need it.

I have the DeWalt 2-plane that takes AA batteries and it's a decent laser but changing the batteries constantly is starting to get old. Always have M12 batteries (and Makita) and getting that sort of run time would be nice. Also the plumb dots would come in handy. Looks like I'm buying this. I have a tripod that I use occasionally to mount mine, but most of the time I just screw a metal strap to the wall or clamp it along a door opening or something.

Glue a metal sheet cut to size on to your Johnson Bracket and just use the magnets on the Milwaukee and don't worry about the knob. Or you can make your own Johnson Bracket out of timber that works the same way, and you will have the benefit of having a flat surface to stick to the wall. I just use a small piece of MDF with metal sheet stuck to it and I use 3M Command Strips to hang on the customers wall, when finished I just pull down on the Command Strips and it comes off with no damage to the wall, no glue residue.

Without seeing the Johnson bracket issue clearly, I’d consider adding a larger steel platform (drill and tap 1/4”-20 flat double gang or round electrical cover plate) or some other arrangement using thin steel surface over luan (double stick tape) blind nutted to the platform to improve the fit of the Milwaukee with the Johnson bracket.

They also have mounts to give vertical adjustment in addition to the built in side to side adjustment. This unit also has a plumb feature that says in 0lace when using side adjustment. I install cabinets and trim for a living and absolutely love using it.

@@aptpupil making a wall ultra flat by adding shim strips to make up for any warped studs. Can be a necessity in renovation where the original framing is all over the place. Especially ceilings where you have long spans with crowned joists in varying degrees. Carpenters will nail 2x or 1x battens at 90 degrees across the entire ceiling at regular intervals. Then they can shim down the high spots to bring the ceiling into dead flat. A laser will give you a constant flat reference plane that you can measure your framing by.

Love your videos and appreciate your expertise. Would you consider adding recommendations for the diyers when it comes to tools? So far everything I’ve seen you recommend is much too expensive for those of us not in the trade. I know you’re a professional and are speaking to professionals but you also have a diy following too 😊. Needing a level with the plumb feature, nail gun for baseboard, picture rail, crown, and hardwood treads and risers and possibly an orbital sander. All will be for a remodel so dust collection is important and battery operated so I don’t need a compressor. Thank you

Virtually the same as the Makita 4 point laser that has been out for more than 2+ years now (Makita SK106GDZ), except the Makita uses a 12v battery to keep the weight and size down (they do make an 18v adapter though, which I don't much care for). I wish they did an 18v direct though but people in the field apparently appreciate the smaller battery size. The problem with all of these forward projecting laser levels, is that they only project forward of the laser level and only project 2 planes, which means you cannot obtain a 360 degree all at once projection for each plane. If you are working forward facing of the device only, then any of these forward projecting laser level brands are more than adequate, choose on laser brightness/projection distance and accuracy and of course battery lock-in. In terms of accuracy, Makita lists as more accurate, but seriously 3.18mm over 10m (Milwaukee) vs 3 mm over 10m (Makita) would literally be statistical noise. The Milwaukee units list as good for 38m vs 35 for the Makita units, although reviews tend to favor the Makita, but that's subjective. If you are trying to put in something like a raised floor or a drop ceiling, the Makita SK700GD allows the full 360 projection all at once so you get a level across the whole room all at once. Milwaukee M123PLA401C is similar with 3 planes but it's more awkward to use than the Makita. Personal opinion: Curse these tools makers for never coming up with a universal battery standard. I know why they don't do it, but even Apple with it's lightning connector got told to pull it's head in by the EU recently, it's past time these tool manufacturers faced a similar directive.

I switched from the 2 plane Dewalt Green Laser to the 3 plane Milwaukee green laser. I love the fine adjustment mechanism and the m12 battery. I was in the same situation. Lots of m12 tools and only 1 12volt dewalt tool. However, the dewalt laser was stronger/brighter making it easier seeing under daylight. It wasn't a huge difference, just enough to be noticeable. That being said, I can't believe you're giving up a 3 plane for a 2 plane. I rarely use the 3rd plane, but when I do it's worth every penny.

Unless I’m missing something, it’s not 360, 3 plane though. I use a Bosch. It’s the only Bosch I have besides it and a belt sander. It has a micro adjust vertical mount that can stand alone or be mounted to a tripod or the telescopic pole. About 4-5 inches of travel on that mount.

Totally appreciate your review. I've been hearing good things about this laser. A few years ago I had heard a really good review of a huepar. Bit the bullet and paid I think 240 for the deluxe kit. It has the adjustable base, well multiple actually and magnetics and micro-adjust bases. It also has a remote control fob that actually works incredibly well and I never knew I needed it until I had it. I can turn it off and on and change plans of the laser without touching it, which is Hella nice if you spent 10 15 minutes trying to get it just right... But boy I sure would like something that works off the same batteries I'm using everywhere else! However it hasn't really been a problem, because the you power comes with 2 batteries and I haven't had them run out in the middle of a job yet 😋. That being said, it's a super bright laser with a lot of functionality, the batteries are really the only drawback to it. Just wanted to give a quick little review of that for all your other watchers as well:)

TOO BAD CHRISTMAS IS OVER....GREAT REVIEW SPENCER AND TIMELY FOR ME AS OLD RED IS NEARLY DEAD.....

You've probably addressed this in the feed of another video so I apologize for any redundancy, but why have you opted to go with so many M12 tools? I know some of the stuff - the laser and the small sander - come in the M12 format, but don't you find you're lacking drive power on drills? Great review, btw.

Most of the drilling applications I do are not power intensive. I wanted to try a more compact size and feel.

ToolReviewZone just released a video showing Milwaukee is coming out with a 12 ft adjustable pole accessory for their lasers. Might be the solution you’re looking for Spencer

I would love to know why you chose to switch from DeWalt drills to the M 12 line from Milwaukee. I value your opinion but it looks like you won't answer email questions.

Size and weight. That's about it. Honestly it probably wasn't worth spending the money to switch.

They come with a target which highlights the line. They aren't really meant for outside use.

I'm surprised the Milwaukee base doesn't come off. My Hilti let's you take it off the microadjust base so you can use other accessories.

I don't understand how the 12v battery on the dewalt laser is a problem when it uses the same charger as the 20v batteries.
@InsiderCarpentry

It's not the end of the world, more of an annoyance. I explained, it was the only dewalt 12v tool/battery I owned. I have many M12 tools and growing.

Only having one battery and not having multiple batteries to be able to rotate while you’re charging others can definitely be a little disruptive with your workflow. Collecting a bunch of batteries to operate one tool doesn’t make much sense.

Why not add a metal plate to the mount on your bracket. And don't use the screw on point.

Milwaukee blows away DeWalt all day and then some. I was never a fan of DeWalt tools. I've had some but I was a Bosch guy till a year ago. I have switched out 90% of my tools to Milwaukee and growing. I'm anxious to get a Milwaukee track saw set, a miter box, and maybe a Jobsite table saw. With your skills you should make your own wall bracket.

I like Milwaukee tools but they are getting very overpriced!! For me to buy this laser is $650 and I have to buy a $100 battery on top of that.

Not to be that guy but in locked mode it won’t auto level, and its blinking in locked mode to show that it’s not level. I have used lasers for a while now, so unless something is different will Milwaukee I could be wrong.
@sidefack
@sidefack Жыл бұрын
Blinking while out of level is common for a lot of laser levels. In this case it would do exactly what Spencer says because the only time you would consider locked mode is to have an unlevel line in which case it would blink and inform you it's locked.
@chadmast7038
@chadmast7038 Жыл бұрын
That’s kind of the whole point of locking it, so you can have a straight line that’s not level! 😂

@@chadmast7038 my comment was more for the non professionals that may follow the channel. I had a new guy recently not understand that and framed 2 walls with it locked, needless to say I had to reframe them.
