Insider's Favorite Dishes In Every State | 50 State Favorites

Күн бұрынAs you probably already know, we love telling stories about food and traveling anywhere we can to find the most delicious, mouthwatering dishes. This year, we couldn't really do that. It was a tough year all around for everyone. So in light of finding some ~light~ in a dark 2020, what better time than now to reflect on the dishes and restaurants that make us happy? We picked our favorites, based on the places we've been, your responses to the stories we've shared, and looking back at recent videos we've produced for this series.
These dishes may not be the most iconic or the most representative of every state, but that doesn't make them any less delicious or any less worthy of a bullet on your bullet list. We hope they inspire you to travel and try new dishes (when it's safe again to do so), whether it's to LA for the juiciest tacos you'll never stop craving or to Alabama for the decadent orange rolls you never knew you needed.

I love all pizza, but Detroit style pizza is hands down the best! I’ll fight anyone about it 😂 Got all the good stuff when what you really want is to EAT pizza. Crispy cheese corners and crispy bottom. Extra cheese and extra toppings without paying for extra anything. Not as coma inducing as Chicago style and New York style is great if you’re trying to keep it light, but when I want pizza, I want to feel it in my jellies but still be able to go out and have fun with friends/family (pre and post Covid, of course 😭). ❤️

As a Washington resident, I have to say that there’s only one store in Washington that throws the fish, and even though the fish market is fun, I personally know it’s mainly a tourist destination. The first Starbucks is there too. So everyone will obviously go there.

The fish they toss aren’t even sold!!! They toss the same 3 fish all day and then donate them at the end of the day. They aren’t sent to the back and weighed because those fish take so much abuse. Garbage ass food journalism from these folks again 🤦🏾♂️

I'm from LA and I've never been to Fugetsu Do nor have I eatten Rainbow Dango. In fact many people haven't even tried Rainbow Dango. Our state's favorite dish is Quesa birra tacos or just regular tacos.

Another note about NC barbeque from a North Carolinian, there are two bases for the sauce as well. Western NC uses a tomato base, while Eastern NC uses a vinegar base(my go to for BBQ)

You pick a highly overrated pizza place for the state of Florida and not a cubano from one of the amazing authentic Cuban spots? In Oklahoma you recommend going to a fast food chain (Sonic), vs. finding one of the legendary spots that created the Oklahoma onion burger - which has a history that is perfectly relevant to today. Too many fails to count. Your team really got lazy with this one.

From montana here.... Huckleberry realy?!?!?!? I can't think of a time in my life in which I have consumed huckleberry in any regularity.... In fact I can't think about any rrsturaunts that offer it in the menu. I know huckleberry products are popular as novilty gifts for tourists but I can't think of any time in my life where huckleberrys have been anything other than a novelty. For montana I would say a chicken fried steak or heck even rocky mountain oysters (even thought they are a novelty) at least if you go into a restraunt your more likely to find them on the menu over huckleberry anything.

Alabama native: the favorite food in bama is DEFINITELY anything peanut related or barbecue. The orange rolls are only a thing at the one restaurant. They’re fantastic, but there is nothing like boiled peanuts and Boston butt that you eat at Bryant Denny

There's actually more than two types of barbeque in North Carolina. What mostly dictates the different types is the sauce (at least when you're talking pulled pork). There's a mustard based sauce that you mostly find in the mountains, ketchup based sauce that's spread all throughout, and my personal favorite: vinegar based sauce which is only found near the coast.

Whenever I see these, videos, for my state, (Michigan) they only ever do a coney hot dog or Buddy’s Pizza. I’ve never even heard of Buddy’s Pizza. I think these videos are for non-Americans so they can make America look crazy unique, which it is, but not in the ways shown.

The Michigan one is correct for the lower peninsula, particularly south east. Pasties are the correct answer for the upper peninsula and northern lower peninsula. Detroit style pizza is universally beloved in the state I believe.

Its nice to see variety in this 'favorite food' across the US. So many of these videos use the same old list. Favorites are by opinion so the list should rotate for variety. I mean really is their just one exceptional food per state? Hardly! I live on the west coast and there are so many good eatery's here it would be a shame to just trickle down to one thing. I'm sure the same goes for all the other states too. So keep us all apprised of the good things to chase down across this country while we are vacationing! LOL... yumm!

as an Alaskan - word of caution on the reindeer dogs... back in the old days, reindeer used to be the primary ingredient. Due to popularity though, it often isn't. Some brands list reindeer well after the other meats. These are usually labeled as "contains".

I live in Alabama and never heard of those rolls. At least not in the form of a must have from the state. If you really are looking for a signature dessert from the state, actual Alabamians know you get a Fried Pie from the Peach Park. For me it'll be a Fried Apple pie, and if I've been good it will be à la Mode with some fresh homemade vanilla ice cream. Apple and Peach are year round, however they have some seasonal pies like strawberry, sweet potato, and pecan. That is a Alabama must have.

Wow I'm so impressed that you picked something from Portillo's as the best in Illinois. Usually people pick some version of Chicago-style deep dish pizza (yuck!) but Portillo's is the best fast food I've ever had, and their chocolate cake & shakes are both pretty great on their own, much less together. For anybody coming to Illinois, give their burgers & fries a shot, too, as they're both amazing for a fast food place!

Portillos burgers are some of the worst I've ever had. A shame since Chicago has so many fantastic burger places.
