I'm trapped in the frozen canal, and my barge pole becomes an artists pencil, and I doodle about on the frozen canal from the safety of my boat. I get real close up to nature with my feathered friends, and I rescue an injured heron that's been attacked by a goose, which ends up staying overnight on my boat. I get out on the roof to do some star gazing and watch a full moon rising. I take you on a cruise with views, and I overcome the fear of swimming under water by taking one breath and Freediving to the bottom of the ocean. Lots of wildlife, including a green back turtle and dolphins! Sit back and enjoy a relaxing and tranquil journey with me.
The Journey started here... I once lived in the fast lane of life, happily married of 26 years, with two children. That chapter was suddenly shattered by the sudden loss of my wife to cancer, which led me in to depression and homelessness. Waking up in hospital, after attempting to take my own life, with just a suitcase, kayak and bicycle and no money, I've managed to rise up out of the darkness and find happiness and continue my next chapter.
I'm a self taught film maker, and creating these vlogs, it gives me something to do, share my personal experiences as I continue my journey cruising and living life on the canal. Please do consider supporting my channel below... Thank you Dave

Just found your channel❤, life takes journeys. After losing my husband to Alzheimers 2 years ago, I made the decision to move to Newfoundland. Never been just said why not. Found my inner peace in my little house on the sea. Less is more. Nice to see u love winter. Its -22 tonight but everyday is a different view. Feel very blessed.

I once rescued a Swan that had hit power cables and landed in a busy road. I carried it to my car. I was so honored to help it. Waited for rspca who took it a nd helped it to be released once better. I love birds and their individual personalities. We are so lucky . Thankyou for your videos.

I have noticed since you have lived on the canals in your dreamy long boat, you have changed for the better, if you understand my meaning, you did this yourself, I know it was not easy at first, but since your wife’s death and everything you went through, this new life has helped you through everything so far. I have long-Covid and pretty much am housebound. When I am not to ill I try to paint nature and that brings a lot of healing. I have not been great for a few weeks and haven’t been able to paint. I miss going out into nature like I use to. Thanks for this I very much appreciate it.

Great vlog Dave. It’s amazing how much the birds trust you.Can’t believe how many long tailed tits you had on that one feeder, absolutely love those birds. Was that a nut hatch or a tree creeper? Does the narrowboat move sideways a lot? I have motion sickness and have been wondering how life would be for me on one of those. Stillness and silence is our natural way of being. So many have forgotten it or turned away from it when in fact it is the medicine for the modern times.

Your videos are very relaxing and inspiring but I've read that continuous cruisers can be constantly harassed by the river authorities, has anyone experienced this?

I've not experienced harassment. There are a lot of negative posts out there, and on other subjects too, and negative bad stuff unfortunately gets more publicity over the positive posts. Would be great if algorithms picked up the positive posts. But as we know, the human mind can feed on bad news and negative stories and then create fear in us. That fear, we've just got to deal with it and move on. There are many thousands of boaters living on water that are enjoying their way of life. As a continuous cruiser, I do abide by what is required of me, to move a certain distance and stay in one place no longer than 14 days. If I ever need to stay longer for health reasons, bad weather, or mechanical problems, I simply contact the canal and river trust, and let them know of my difficulties, and you can get permission to stay longer. There are rules in place that are needed, and they're there for good reasons. I'm appreciative and so lucky to be living this lifestyle. It's not everyone's cup of tea. It can be physically challenging, especially in winter. And the cost of living on water is going up a lot! But so is the cost of living in bricks and morter.
