Installing a Quad Lock phone mount to a BMW K1300R

I'm finally back with a bike video (WHAT?!) and here I'm showing how you can install a Quad Lock phone mount to your K1300R. I also show how the wireless power head differs from the basic kit.
The part code for the BMW branded power connector to suit the 3-pin plug used for powering the wireless charge head is 83300413585.
Also, this Quad Lock mount is called the "Fork stem" mount. Don't forget to add the Vibration Dampener to your order if you use a new smartphone with image stabilization in the camera lenses, or your camera could be rendered inoperable. This is particularly important on inline 4 bikes like the K1300R.

Thanks for the video. Mounting is a pain because of the handlebars. I have the k1300s and it does my nut in! Love the bike though

I had the same issue with my F800S, but had to cut nothing. K1300R/S must be different. I have a 2m USB cable from the DIN to tbe mount.

Thanks v much for the video, have just mounted the Quadlock stem mount on my K1300R - very useful to watch before doing my install..! Q. was the power source from the 3 pin plug enough to power a dual USB socket..? also wondered if you did experience any issues due to voltage leakage..?

Hi mate, the power source should be plenty for a dual USB socket. In regards to voltage leakage, no issue there as the 3-pin plug is a switched circuit controlled by the body computer on the bike. It's fully off when the 30 second timer runs out after the bike is switched off.

I’ve got a K1300S and l use quad locks. l’d like to use the stem mount in the stem on mine. Would it work on the BMW?

Hey. Got another question. My dash is totally blank until it jsut wakes up and shows all telemetry. It seems to happen in tbe cold more than not. I also thought that there is a batteey backup for such and it is broken. Or it could be a bad wire. Any experienxe with this at all? The ECU needs to remember where it's at, but the right time is always forgotten. So it could be it remembers nothing, just reading the data like it's new, but the clock is not part of this. Any ideas? I'd love to fix this. It's really not good riding without telemetry.

Do you know what that plastic plug on the frame is. The one just in front of the battery an behind the handle bars? I wanted to see if that would be a good location for a mount. Thanks for the video. I just installed a USB underneath the computer module and removed the right hand side tank cover to run a wire for heated gear. The heated gear wire comes up at the middle of the seat and can be tucked under the seat when not in use. Was looking for ideas to mount a phone next so appreciate the video.

Oh yeah I did look at that. It's just a cover for a bolt to avoid water ingress. I don't think it was a suitable location as the handlebars are likely to interfere with it. Something with a really long stem might suffice but then it would need to have the right thread. The BMW logo is the traditional location as any RAM mount thread is apparently already correct. BMW sell a RAM mount that fits in there perfectly including the width of the old BMW logo to stop further water ingress.

Very helpful video. Just what I wanted. I agree with @xyperox, it would be nice to see the whole process, including the electronics. Wouldn't be better to install the mount on the right side? That way, it won't cover your speedometer, sth that you look more often than the board computer. Isn't it also possible to cut the whole plastic edge of the quad lock mount and replace it with a rubber washer? I assume as soon as you fasten the screw, the mount will stay stable, no? Any better way to take of the plastic cap without damaging it?

When I can find some time I'll video the wiring. As for the side I mounted it, I'm left handed and also if it was on the right I would either have to take my hand off the throttle to tap the screen, or cross my left arm over to reach it. I have gloves with tabs on the fingers that still work on touch screens. I don't touch it *often* but occasionally it's necessary. There's no need for a rubber washer for the mount either. And yes when you tighten the screw it locks into place. As for the cap removal, I imagine you could remove it without damaging it sure. Just go slower.

@@KaldekBoch I managed to mount the fork stem mount on the left handle, like you. The video helped a lot. I wanted to ask you regarding the 3pin socket, do you happen to have the part number of the socket? So I can buy the proper plug and make the wiring safer?

I've never seen that plug. You are right about the waterproofing, but I've left the cable end exposed and so long as it's behind the fairing, it's OK. The DIN/USB adapter on the right side of my F800S is definitely not waterproof but I angle it away from incoming rain. Yep, rusty, but it works. I thread the cable between motor and frame and it pops where your setup is. Landscape mode for sure. Portrait covers the dash too much. Not sure if I could Wi d a cable through K1300 stuff, and it might touch the engine and burn the cable. Do you have links to the parts you bought?

The part code is in the video description. Just google "BMW 83300413585" and there will be eBay items for it for sure. It's called a "repair plug" but just ignore that.

@@XO43137 No , that's why I asked you ignore the "repair plug" statement. It's a "repair" for the factory GPS power cable, if you had one (and it broke). The ECU diagnostics connector is under the seat and is a large round plug.

Yes, I thought so. Anyway, was gong to buy a K1300S but I love my fcked up bike too much. Wouldn't be so fucked up if it wasn't for road rage, vandalism, and too many blind parkers. Will look at a. K1300R later down the track. Less bullsht than tbe S. Got any idea on LED hsadlight conversions? People suggest Pirates Lair in thd Us, I found Stedi in Melbourne. And LEDPerf in France. Kits they offer are much the same and say they are plug/play. Have also seen full headlights replacements. I converted mine on the F800S buf knew nothing at the time. Neither did the mechanics. All manuallg put together. I don't think the ECU sees if the lights blow. My rear LED bulb keeps blowing. It's been very education about BMW canbus bikes.

Just with a hand hacksaw. It's soft plastic and easy to cut - lots of techniques would work!

Strange you didn't record how you did soldering etc with connecting to power pin that you talked about. On the most advanced part you cut video.

@@KaldekBoch nice video you got a like but I disagree, it's about connecting a phone mount with a wireless charger, so it's part of the process, you just left us on the half. Would be nice to explain how you did the electric part and protect it from rain, how you put wires and where you placed them. It's most challenging part of the process. Thanks for the 1st part of the process 🙏 we wait for the 2nd part 💪🏻
