In this video I am installing drip irrigation on the Rhubarb raised beds. Several years ago I dug all of the rhubarb plants out of the heavy clay where they had been dying due to crown rot when the ground stayed too wet in the spring, and I placed them in 36” fire rings which raised them one foot off of the ground. They have been growing exceptionally well ever since placing them in the fire rings, but they dry out during the hot weather and they have gotten so big that it is difficult to water them with either the hose or a watering can.
Once the drip irrigation system is completed I am going to experiment with the time and frequency of watering the rhubarb beds. I will start by setting the timer to water for one hour once a week. If that is too little, or too much water, I will adjust the timing.
I have another Galcon 9001BT water timer on order to control the new drip irrigation lines on the rhubarb beds. This is the same timer I have on the main raised garden beds, and I have a 20psi pressure regulator on the out side to prevent high pressure from blowing out drip emitters. This timer allows using the Galcon app with Bluetooth to check the status or program it from the convenience of my living room.
