You seemlessly blend functionality and durability with aestetics. I learn something on every video and appreciate you sharing your knowledge.

John Bolongo Yes he is. I had originally thought to place some kind of outboard motor mount to the back of my boat(which would be ugly probably) but then I saw these Alberg 30s with an outboard coming out of the transom and I’m like “genius”. Now i can have a 9.8 outboard as the main drive and a 9.8hp for dinghy( build up the capacity plate to allow for the longer shaft) and backup as main. Redundant engines! At least, thats my initial thought.

Beautiful. Electrical question. I see you use GFCI receptacles. My old boat does not have any. Should all recepticals be GFCI? Thanks. You do beautiful work.
@atomvoyager
@atomvoyager 5 жыл бұрын
I hesitate to give AC electrical advice but as I understand it you only need the first receptacle on each circuit to be GFCI since it can protect downstream receptacles. But I heard it is recommended to have GFCI in galley, head, and engine room. Since I work mostly on small boats that are potentially wet in every location, I use them for all outlets. On a bigger boat with many more outlets, if I was on a budget then I might use cheaper standard outlets in the drier areas while ensuring the first receptacle in each circuit was GFCI.

I really enjoy your videos and have learned so much from them. I would like to ask you a question regarding corrosion between dissimilar metals. I thought you had mentioned this on one of your videos but could not find it. I am currently doing some work on my boat trailer. I has a steel frame and I need to replace some of the bolts. I am planning on using stainless steel bolts. Do you have any recommendations for preventing corrosion? I thought there were some products that could be applied to the bolts.
@atomvoyager
@atomvoyager 5 жыл бұрын
I use Lanocote on bolts to prevent corrosion when installing stainless fasteners into aluminum. Tef-Gel is also good for that. I don't use anything on stainless bolts on steel frame trailers but it might be a good idea to use it if it will go into saltwater. If so, maybe you can get better info on a trailer sailor forum.

Thanks for another great video. I'm having trouble finding a decent, marine butyl tape. Could you please let me know what brand you use and what to look for in the specification?
@atomvoyager
@atomvoyager 5 жыл бұрын
I've tried several butyl tapes and found all of them less sticky and prone to leaking except for Bed-it butyl which is pricey but excellent: shop.marinehowto.com/products/bed-it-tape

Hello James, been enjoying your videos. I have a question for you ; I have a 1960 Triton that I removed the rub rail to clean up and get ready for new paint and I see the hull to deck joint needs some work, the sealent has gapes . How is the deck to hull joined ? I reach up in the inside of toe rail and can not feel any bolts or any other fasteners. How do I clean out old seal and reseal the joint ?
@atomvoyager
@atomvoyager 5 жыл бұрын
The hull to deck joint on the Triton is a butt joint with no overlap or fasteners. The factory set the deck on and then glasses the joint on the inside. They may have added filler or caulk on the outside. You can scrape out the loose caulk and fill with 5200. By the way, you may want to join the plastic Classic Forum to ask future questions and I'll answer there. I've been referring questions there where the group can benefit from the discussions. plasticclassicforum.com/forum/

@@BrianBrownESS Understand about Air Conditioning. I was refering to alternating current. Such great workmanship on your boat. Love the videos
@BrianBrownESS
@BrianBrownESS 5 жыл бұрын
@@stevewillis2112 - I was talking about alternating current, not air conditioning, but understand the confusion. I have a 1200W inverter to run small appliances , tools, and chargers. I don't plan on spending a lot of time at marinas, and so the choice to forego shore power simplified things and saved some cost.

Thanks for clarifying, sorry about that. I am installing the same inverter James uses on my boat. Actually wiring it the same way. Clean method.
