Jasper wasn't just a top lad at football he was a proper Fagan father type figure to the lads of all ages. Common knowledge up stoke that when jasper moved to the coast anyone with hard time issues addiction on the run or just needed a fresh start they were sent up to stay with him no questions asked

West Ham always came into The Boothen but only in small numbers. One game they moved down towards the Boothen Paddock (where Stokes main firm were). The old bill made the mistake of taking them into the paddock instead of walking them round the pitch. They got absolutely battered. I know, I was there. They got trapped inside & it took old bill a while to rescue them then escort them to the Stoke End. After the game Stoke lads went up Butler Street to Lonsdale Street then hid behind graves in St Peters Churchyard. As the ICF passed they got done again. Mind you a few years later Stoke got a kicking on Kingsway car-park on the way to Stoke Railway Station. Stoke followed West Ham then ambushed them on the car-park but another larger group of Hammers ambushed Stoke. Stokies refused to run, so I've been told 😉 and got a good pasting. The Good Old Days eh? I remember hiding in a bus depot at Upton Park too just behind the away section. Like a scene from 'On the buses'...Orr rite Blakey 😂

@@Jammo1978 can't say I agree with you about holding bundles one day and being skint the next. From a personal angle I've never been anyone, although I done a bit of this 'n' that back in the day I supposre, yet when I was on the deck I still always had a few grand stashed away in the bank. When I say that I'm talking about when I was even in my 20's, never mind now that I'm in my 50's and relatively comfortable. I didn't know the geezer and as far as I'm aware he never followed England so I wouldn't have even ever come across him without realising back in the 80's, so I'm in no position to cast judgement. My only thoughts are there are those who was proper faces in the 80's and 90's becoming 'celebrity hooligans' that turned a quid and are still holding big money now. But then there's others who ended up dying young without two bob to rub together, Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Carlisle spring to mind instantly. I'm sounding right moody and disrespectful when I don't mean to be, just proper curious because of stuff I've heard that might or might not be true.

Football violence and hooliganism is part of the grass roots in the landscape the new age crime gardners cultivated...its not gangsta storys of the usual kind that only a few % strolled but football was a working man's crack at violence AND crime (of sorts) for the many who in the most were buckling down making a honest living of 9-5 but wanted to keep that side of there character and passion of good honest gentleman violence of which is a thing of the past and will never be got back due to times and technology. The camaraderie and love of your enemy was the best drug ever! Good drop Loved it Ben! Not what some people would call crime but is what a lot of people got there weekly sin from! Cheers from a fellow enthusiastic and it was a good little piece! It's normally about celebrity fans, some people did get into real crime off the back of it,drug dealing, robbing, organised theft, not gangsta stuff but I've never met a gangsta in my life!

I was just a kid so he took little notice of me and I didn't know too much about hooliganism, but I knew there was something wrong with the logo. Kind words about my lot (Stoke) Seems like a different life back then. I'm 65 now, and yes. The graveyard, and the back streets of Stoke were where I did my hunting. As you say. No weapons just hand to hand. The Sea Lion in Stoke was where all the tough older guys hung out (ex boxers, doormen etc) It was run by a tough bugger but he'd let the odd few away boys in. You knew if one had got lippy or lairy as he'd be stretched out unconscious while people drank their beer. The fighting was like a drug back then. I've got arthritis in my effing knuckles and wrists now thanks to that.

My first encounter with West Ham was about 1970/71 when I accompanied an older relative to the Vic because he liked WH and I needed to stay away from meither. We were minding our own business going over the canal bridge to the station( before the D road was there!!). Behind us were at least 500 of us but in front about 100 WH stopped and formed a line across the road massive blokes half white lads half Black. Was well impressed (I was 15) they organised themselves into a couple of lines, threatening anyone who would run away. Our mob came up got about 15 yards away, took a look at what was in front of them and stopped. We were big in numbers and had plenty of lads who could look after themselves but their organisation spooked us and got them onto their trains. It was only in your era J when we finally got proper organised became a force👍😎⚽️

Father Jasper is like a true paternal figure to the area, &w/his military background, was tactical and disciplined. Bill Gardner is and always will be a legend. Jasper , well, he is one as well and one fine lad. He has helped plenty of Lads in Stoke over the years. I was born in Stoke, grew up in Oz, and was back as a young man through 88-92. I was naive to much of it, but remember Birmingham and Grimsby away especially. Got nicked a few times following Stoke about . Got myself into strife a few times too, and was pulled out of mither by Cossack, Jed and a few of the others. I was a hothead, and at 57 now, many say I still am. But I've mellowed. The N40 lads were sound as, still are. Ask Cardiff, Wolves, Man City to name a few. They were good times.

We got chatting and she was a retired underground police officer. The conversation got round to that London Bridge battle. I recall about 89. She said it was the worse violence she ever witnessed. Nasty in her words and she said stoke were impressive. I asked who are the worst team to come to London. Leeds she replied. But that was the worst she had seen. Fair play to the millwall. Top firm.

Stoke City have gone up and down all four divisions over the years: Stoke lads are no secret to anyone who follows football - through first hand experience or reliable testimony. I'll never get dewey-eyed about 'the casual era' (I thought it was utter bollocks but I warmed to some of the lads as I got to know them) and I've never read a hooli book. Funny thing is, talking to 'younger' (under 40) lads these days, topic turns to footy and you impart a couple of anecdotes ... I'm often met with the assumption that I got it off some KZfaq upload - like they do. They think they can cite the same reference. Absolutely not. If I was talking about someone else's experiences as seen on a KZfaq upload - I would say exactly that. I don't understand the need to pretend you're someone else.
