I just have to say thank you so much. I have been trying to lose the last few kgs from back when I was quite overweight (20kgs) to be exact. I am 157cm tall and was 75kgs (at the time was meant to be between 55-58kgs). I did Intermittent fasting for most of last year, and then lifestyle change and such had me going back to a 3 meal a day, carb focused diet. Although I ate very healthily, and I stayed the same weight for months (something I had never been able to accomplish before, I used to yoyo a LOT) I wanted to get back to fasting as I felt really good doing so and saw good results. I am now doing so again and I wanted to do so correctly, and I had NO IDEA that I shouldn't be drinking coffee (I love milky coffee :/ ). I understand water intake is a big thing, but no one had explained how essential minerals were. Your explanation was so simple, neutral and not trying to push any kind of narrative other than to educate, and I really, really appreciate it. Thank you so much for the effort and time you put into doing these videos! I wish I had come across your channel sooner.

@te_mach1
@te_mach1 4 жыл бұрын
@Thomas Delauer What's your thoughts on the therapeutic dosage of a non-proteinogenic amino acid in isolation. So for example; taking 5 - 10g of ornithine an hour before breaking your fast? There was a study many years ago (It did use glutamine in that study) that showed it helped with a quicker release of a person's growth hormone. This was useful for people over 35 years old as the rate of which their growth hormone is released has slowed significantly. Do you think that this could be useful with intermittent fasting and/or keto or would this negate the benefits of IF/Keto?

When I was 18 years old, I became severely depressed. I was 265 lbs. at only 5'11 and my health was suffering. My natural reaction to my situation was to stop eating entirely. Not sure why, but that's just what felt right. This was the beginning of my 3 month "near-fast" that allowed me to loss 90 of excess body fat and allowed me to live a much more active and rewarding life-style. I drank vitamin infused water whenever my hunger pains came in (these pains became duller and less uncomfortable as my fast continued). I would eat a modest meal every few weeks. Once I just ate a banana, a few times I had a fist sized amount of brown rice with raw carrots and lettuce, once I had a cookie. Though the cookie was good, I wasn't as good as I had remembered them being. I decided to end the fast after reaching a weigh I was comfortable with, 175 lbs. I don't regret a second. I was physically more active during and after my fast than I ever was before. Almost 5 years later, I have gained some weight back after stress eating in college, 195 lbs. But I am currently fasting once again. Already down 5 pounds after a week and hoping for similar results from before. It was much easier this time because I had done it before.

For people that are confused about what you can and can't have when you fast let me break it down to you. You can have: Water, plain old water. That's it. No coffee, no flavored water, no artificial sweeter drinks/water mixes. Nothing but plain old fashion water, like the stuff that comes out of your sink. Although I recommend getting it out of a filtered fridge so it tastes better. If you follow the simple rule of ONLY having plane Jane water, then you will not risk breaking your fast, and you will lose weight quickly. I do the 1 hour OMAD diet and it has worked for me.

Overeating after the fasting is real. There might be subconscious or per-programmed mechanism to it. I use liquid shakes and powder drinks for that. They satiate, but the solid volume in the gut is low, so that it does not have to work as hard. It's a neat trick in addition to the well measured portions.

Then pills & vinegar again at 1pm and 9pm, I eat between 3pm and 5pm so I can get enough salad and veg in, but am I wasting the fast by taking the pills at 6am 1pm and 9pm?

Clarks “colloidal minerals”...read up on them, 100 times better than trying to extract bio available minerals from a toxic substance like salt, which only has minerals at the “elemental” size...not bio available.

I bought PINK SALT ,,,,,,,,,, ( I can't believe it, hah, hah ) and now I add some to the water that I drink. I *ALWAYS* believed in drinking 8 GLASSES of water per day...... always, for 40+ years, just plain filtered water, but didn't add salt.......... except when sweating heavily, like in Thailand, or working out. NOW, I add the salt as a mineral supplement.

Hey all.. Dr.Eric Berg does a video on things that you can consume when you are fasting. ACV and coffee in small amounts are ok. I suggest watching his video.

Both Dr. Fung and Dr. Berg are okay if you add little fat to your coffee. Fats are insulin neutral, so they would cause barely any insulin to be secreted. Thomas is playing it safe. Most people put tons of cream, not even bothering to read whether it has any added sugar.

Eric Berg is not a Dr. He is a chiropractor. Dr Jason Fung is an MD and I would trust what he says. Berg is an Internet regurgitator who used to have Dr in his title but I notice he's dropped this recently. My personal opinion is he's a charlatan. Thomas doesn't pretend to be anything he isn't. He's a well educated version of us. He puts out great content.
@mansoorwahab8934
@mansoorwahab8934 7 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't call somebody who has tons of great content with real science a charlatan. That is a way too simplistic view to hold. I disagree with Dr. Berg on a few points, but he has helped myriad people lose weight in a healthy manner and that alone deserves respect (check out success stories). Also, his video descriptions clearly state he is a chiropractor, and trust me he knows a whole lot more about nutrition than 99% of your MDs. Dr. Fung and few others who are also active in helping people lose weight and reclaim their health naturally have spent lots of time researching and learning the science behind proper nutrition and weight loss. They admit they didn't learn that in medical school.
@MrChapunka
@MrChapunka 7 жыл бұрын
I have a strong opinion about chiropractors and their pseudoscience. Have a look at some of Eric Berg's earlier videos. One in particular about water consumption. He hasn't a clue what he is talking about. I just really really dislike the guy and I can see through him. I think he appeals to a lot of vulnerable people. He initially appealed to me when I was looking for help on my journey but i'm in a different place now. I agree with you regarding medical school but at the least the rigors of their academia creates a universal standard for them to go on and specialise. Hopefully, more will follow the Fung, Noakes et al... approach.

#2: what about artificial sweeteners (like Stevia etc.). They don't _contain_ calories, but by being sweet, do they _signal_ incoming calories to the body? Does that mess up the metabolism, particularly the insulin response?

I'm a month in, with spectacular results - my comments (in appreciation): [1] Was and is a delight - greens, protein and fats was easily hit. [2] Coffee creamers have never featured in the diet. Mainly because I hate coffee [3] Only BCAA's I get are from Broccoli on eating days, so that's not an issue... [4] Water + NaCl (1tsp in 2L as recommended) - a total solution. 4 - 6l a day during fasting, and kills hunger brilliantly. [5] NaCl in water (as above) + Zinc + others, are a matter of course. Vitamin C avoided as per previous advice. ADF has been my salvation, and made me new, and is torching fat - 36 hour fast is a breeze - my thanks as always, and with kind regards.

Thanks for this Video. Very useful informations. I ve 1 question: Did you ever hear of "Dryfasting". Its actually 3 times more effective than waterfasting. So 1 day Dryfasting is like 3 days fasting with water. I read the body produces its own pure water, taking out the hydrogen from the fatcells combinging it with O² what you breathe in. I also read, that with this kind of fasting, you don't lose any musclemass and only fat. I would really appreciate you reading or scientifically approaching this kind of "Dryfasting". It sounds like the ultimate key. EDIT: Nevermind, I just recognized, you already did a video about dryfasting. AMAZING!!!

I've learned the hard way that I gotta add in a lot of salt. I add a pinch of coarse salt to every 16oz glass I drink. If I consume a low amount of sodium today and exercise tomorrow, I will feel like crap during and after. My shoulders will ache and I'll be short of breath and light headed with minimal exertion.

@SushiSauce
@SushiSauce 6 жыл бұрын
Both are bad. Putting even a little in your mouth triggers your disgestive system to act and saliva will come out. It thinks you are eating even if you spit it out and you will end up hungrier because your body assumes you are eating when you are not and it wants food.

Video idea: Just watched a vid where you said to fast instead of eat when you are stressed. I am SUCH a stress eater and it's usually when I chuck all rules out the window. I would love to see more on that topic because fasting when I'm stressed sounds so counter intuitive. Did you do some yoga or what? Because food calms me down I feel like I need ideas of how to calm down and then I could fast too. I would guess that most overweight people are stress eaters. Thanks!
