I managed to pass through the Oxford skills test, however BBVA was unable to hand out my loan, due to our house hold income being too low. Its a real shame because not everyone has that financial support to go for these schools regardless of your aptitude. Really look into the costs and even a call to discus will clarify a lot greatly. Oxford is a great school and I will certainly do my CPL and further here, when I can EVENTUALLY afford the prices haha. I'm studying my degree and self funding my PPL and wont give up regardless of any financial problems I may come across in the future even if it may take me 10 years or more to follow my dream. This goes for everyone, keep believing and your life tends to fold into place the way you want it :). thanks Mentour for everything, really appreciate what you do for us! If you have time have a look at my first flight :) Cheers

You’re in Marshall’s airport Cambridge?! I do my training there and have a lesson there this afternoon! I used to live only a 5min walk from the front entrance, but now I live a bit further away but happen to be just off the end of the runway, currently listening to planes take off over my house.

I'm honestly amazed with all the training in Europe being done in 1 1/2 years. In the US my private pilot license alone took that long. But granted 58% of my flights were canceled due to weather as I do my training in South-Western Ohio. Really makes me wish I was still living in the UK haha.
@untitledname5183
@untitledname5183 8 жыл бұрын
Not really! We in Emirates Airlines don't have a flight school in Dubai so they send us to the UK, but from 2 years they switched to Spain since there is much less cancellations due to rain ;)

Avantime Good to know, thanks! I think I'll stick with Ohio though so that I have plenty to complain about once I get to the airlines haha.
@Avantime
@Avantime 8 жыл бұрын
+Britman Speaking from personal experience, if you're serious and got the cash it's far better to go flat out and train full time, preferably in a formal program e.g. ERAU. if you fly only once or twice a week there's a risk that you'll lose currency and potentially have to spend more money to get up to standard. Having half of your flights cancelled is no good.

Thank you for the great video, Mentour! One thing I would appreciate a little bit more info about. It was mentioned that two of the five people had already got a job. How long did it take for them from when they started applying to when they were offered a job? What would be your estimate of average applying time for an average graduate from your school? Thanks!
@allantalver
@allantalver 8 жыл бұрын
+Mentour Pilot It would be great if you could do that. Maybe, if you'll have questions for her from other viewers as well, you could throw that in. :) Also, do you happen to know if there are any lists of good aviation schools around? I think that Oxford is good, probably Bristol as well. But I am also thinking about Scandinavian Aviation Academy in Sweden and it would be great to see how do these schools rank against one another. These are currently three main options that I am thinking about for ATPL Theory (modular) part (after completing the PPL).

It amazes me that airlines are complaining about a lack of qualified pilots yet they fail to invest in people on the front end. They have no one to blame but themselves. Take a military or trades approach to students. Airlines should hire and send these students to school with a minimum employment requirement of of 5 years service with that sponsor airline. The airlines are the ones that BENEFIT the most from the hiring of a pilot and as such they should be the ones to invest. They have no problem with paid ongoing education once hired why not cough the money up front. In addition they are now able to expand the possible hire pool to include talented individuals that avoid aviation due to lack on funds.

Thanks for taking the time to vlog! This interview seems to contradict another of your videos. In this video, it seems that pilots are in high demand, yet another of your videos discusses how difficult it is to land that first job because you are competing with so many other commercial pilots. I'm wondering if maybe it's not so difficult these days compared to when you were looking for your first job, or if there is a lot of demand for pilots, but far more applicants. I'm looking at a school here in the states that works directly with a major carrier to hire pilots right out of flight school. I've also taken a few flights with a local flight school here, and in just the span of two months, I had three separate instructors due to the previous two instructors meeting their hours requirements and landing a job with the airlines. While the school was very clear that a successful interview is mostly dependent on the student, I was also told that their graduating classes typically have a near 100% job placement in the field, and that this airline begins interviewing students during their sophomore year for conditional hire upon graduation, and will even reimburse a portion of your training expenses. Since they're a for profit school, I'm naturally a little skeptical. Do you have any thoughts on this? Thank you!

Hi Petter! Firstly i want to thank you for your such a usefull podcasts! What you do for us is really worthfull! The reason why i'm writing to you now is, I do really need your help and there is no one else who can direct me better than you! The point is, i am disappointed about flight schools.I know you mentioned before that you don't give advise about particular flight school, how ever its really important for me to know your point of view about Emirates Aviation Collage.If you know, the fee of ATPL programme there is very expensive, at least much more expensive than relative schools. Thus, some say its worthless to give that money, and some say other way around. What is the advantages of such an expensive schools? or its really better to find cheapper places for studying? So please if you can, tell me your opinion about EAA. Will be waiting for your soonest reply.

Mentour, I am awaiting my GCSE maths result on Thursday (hopefully an A*) and have selected my A levels to Geography, spanish, Economics and Maths. HOWEVER since we took the GCSE exam in January we have started the AS Maths course and I am really, really struggling! I go to a very selective school and that means I would need at least a B grade at the end of AS levels to be able to pass entry into year 13 (final UK school year). I honestly doubt I will achieve this and I am being encouraged to do History as I am capable of an A. However I have heard that flight schools may frown at my CV if I have no maths or physics A level. Is this true? Suggestions? Thanks

Holly is working with us after completing flight school, until she gets her first airline job. If you're going to be working while searching for an airline job, it's great for your CV if you can work within the aviation industry. kamal beshir integrated is done in 18 months and is the quickest way of getting the ATPL, where as modular is a slower pace and is done in modules (small parts at a time) you still get the same ATPL but it takes more time.

Hello, My name is DJ, I'm 22 years old, and I'm from Virginia. I've recently been looking into becoming an airline pilot. I've been looking into academies as well as local aviation schools. I've found an ATP school a few hours away in Richmond, Va. However, I cannot afford to pay 80k up front, but I've seen loans from Wells Fargo and Sallie Mae. I was curious, how might have you paid? Did you choose either one of the two options I just mentioned? Was it/ Has it been difficult in repaying considering the interest? I am not as lucky as Holly to be able to obtain a family loan... Please help, sir. Thank You.

Hi mentour when you fly for a airlines do you just fly one type or can you fly multiple

+Aidan McCoy After doing training and get your license, you then go get a 'type rating', where effectively you get rated on one type of aircraft. You can then get 'differences training' to fly different types. For example, my type rating was on at ATR72, then I had differences training to fly the ATR42 aswell. One type rating lets your fly A318-A321 or a B777 type rating with differences could let you fly B787 I think!

when u rated to fly one type u are qualified to fly that type only , coz airlines are gonna employee pilots for specific planes , if u want to fly multiple types then u have to have multiple type ratings , which means to fly an Airbus and a Boeing u have to spend around $60000 to be rated to fly both of them

I've been here for 2 years now and I've got 4 years left to get my passport.. my question is do i have to finish school and then get my college degree (in spain is 2 years.. aka Bachillerato in spain)? or should i join flight school now and get my ppl and then atpl [including cpl and mcc] which is gonna cost me 46k USD? ... What should I do?
