Hi, thanks for your nice and helpful videos. Would like to ask you if it is true that Irish low cost airline will start recruiting new pilot with low hours only from 3 main full time program companies? I will be eligible to apply at the end of this year so I am bit worry. Thanks for answer Vladimir :)

Thank you so much for this information. It makes me feel a lot more comfortable because soon I will apply for the KLM Flight Academy here in the Netherlands, which I am very excited, but also pretty nervous about. Knowing what to do and what not to do makes it a little less intimidating. :)

Thank you a lot for all these videos. I'd like to add my viewpoint regarding social profile. I totally agree with you, and from my perspective, if I'd be the one looking for that job, i'd consider my online profile as another, additional CV, where I am likely to state points about me, my personality and lifestyle. Of course some of those points may not be mentioned in my main CV, and those mismatches will lead to employer's doubts about you and whether you were lying or no. And for me it is the only way to win here: there should be only positive points in online profile, that weren't mentioned in your CV. It would tell your future employer more about your hobbies and activities as well as about your modesty, which is all good. While not good points will show your employer an opposite side of your character, your "dark side". And be sure they will rarely like it

I really enjoy watching your podcasts, even I strongly love airplanes and aviation I am a bit old for that. Anyway, what I want to add about how to find the first job, I watched episodes on youtube like "Susi air". Of course find a job for an European company would be better but why not make effort and a bit of more risks flying for small Asian vectors.... They are full of first experience pilots from UK. I don't know, just an idea to get out from the shell. Thanks again for your videos.

Even the older videos are of great quality! Good job. I know you lived in Sweden but are you living in Spain because of your job? Because I don't know if I'm ready to just leave my family and go to another country, but if I really have to for the job, I would greatly do it.

As usual great advice to the younger generations! Interestingly enough, if you were to want to apply for a job with an airline, I would think it would behoove the high end carriers most of all to consider you, but for a somewhat special role. Instead of hiring you primarily to fly, they might hire you as a teacher and coach for their cadets. I suspect few airlines do that, even the high end long haul companies. Work ethic everywhere has become a serious economic conundrum. If I were in that position, my first thought would be Lufthansa, but they are also are the top and the competition might be too much to make sense. However if they can see within themselves a niche for this type of training to enhance the interpersonal andf temperament qualities of their cadets, this is long-term building. That's a big gamble, but it also could have big rewards. One of the possible limitations in that might be high end passenger market saturation or near saturation. what are the sales stats for high end carriers? do they show an economic growth trend or the reverse, or about level? We both know there are a small handful of airlines in this category, but such a special role, I doubt would interest many lesser airlines, although if a long haul carrier was interested in competing with this kind of long term investment, that might also be good, but the investment to do that would be far greater than simply what they might pay you, and the rewards are not short term, making it a rather long business cycle, which finance people want to avoid where possible. The flipside of the long business cycle is also related to the heavier demands it makes on any business effort. simply put it makes the effort of it a more "big league" risk which will thin out some of the competition. the remaining few will battle it out for the big stakes and corporate supremacy. But you might also have some sociological qualms about such an effort. In being top end, it can also be economically deprivatory of others in the industry. competition is OK up to a point but I think humanity has become much more poignantly aware in recent years of the problems that accompany over-competition. On another subject, When I heard you asre living in Girona, and never having had the chance to visit Europe, I looked it up on google maps. You are not all that far from Perpignan, and I had seen a train ride video of SNCF that went from Paris to Barcelona, and so I would expect would pass through Girona. Being an e-travel enthusiast, I also looked at Girona's weather, having had some trepidation that the sunny weather might be too hot for me if I ever did go there. a popular remark about tropical and subtropical weather I often say: "I have a picture of myself as a 3 month old baby. I am in my mother's arms, and she is standing on the walk in front of the house... WITH 4 FEET OF SNOW ON EITHER SIDE!" Less today than before, I think some mother in a hot country might be a tad surprised, and some pilots wanting to fly in Canada, depending on where and for who might well need some serious added training to deal with added icing and arctic flying concerns. Montreal is not arctic, but typical of Canada, the distances ar e long and the temperatures have large variations, bith day to night and seasonal. So, if you were flying from Trudeau (YUL) in Dorval (about 10 miles west of downtown) to Vancouver or Victoria BC, in the second week of March, you might well need not only to have a heavy winter coat , etc., but also have clothing with you for the Montreal equivalent of May when within s ome 50 miles of Vancouver - and protection from lots of rain! I did this trip in the spring of 1995.

I wonder if anyone in the executive or other administrative departments of the high end airlines might have had the proactivity iat their own economic l;evel to keep an eye on what is happening on your site? Personally, if I were such a person, I would want it followed, whether I were personally in a position to do it or I needed to have some middle manager do it! Being in Canada, and politically interested in what our Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is doing, I am thinking, but in a somewhat different way, about Air Canada. IMHO Air Canada is not in the top luxury class, but industry mentor ship (makes it all sound very close to "Mentour" doesn't it?) is good for all, providing it is not compromised or tainted by less than ethical interests in the background. This kind of tainted learning has been the battle of my life, and known to be an exceptional one. Ironically,, as you are in Spain,one of my slogans is in Spanish, which is my third language. So, as one who loves his public speaking, but independent and non-beholding, I have used this when the chance arises to even a unilingual English audience: ¡ Haber compasión es la hija de had sida sofrie ! Having handed the audience that, I mention that one wouldn't need to understand a word of Spanish to realize that there's a lot more than the words! I then pause to watch the audoience reaction and then translate: "To have compassion is the DAUGHTER of having suffered!" Finally, I might rhetorically ask the audience why do they think I use Spanish to do this, or I might simply and firmly tell them: Everyone knows that Spanish is about as emotive a language as any, so... As a retired electronic technician, when I want to make a point with emotive force, I use the right tool for the job, the same as if it were a hammer or a screwdriver! BTW: Partly because of a small motor physical coordination difficulty, I often compose offline and paste-post. Fortunately your site is open enough to allow this. Not all You Tube videos are as open to comments! also, I make extensive use of Libre Office to deal with many issues, but when paste-posting, if i do that directly from Libre Office, it tends to sump a lot of formatting codes, so I may paste it first into gedit (a basic Linux text editor) then repaste to strip the unwanted codes.

Well, I am a Brazilian - unemployeed, sorry :( pilot and I would like to know your opinion on this situation: - last year, I had to put two stents due a heart attack and I want to know if this is (or would be...) consider a "No Go" condition (in Europe, for exemple) to get hired again... Hello captain :) I've noticed in several video that you enphasize on keeping the cost of training the lower possible.. and in the meaning that after getting your license the first job is not granted, it makes sense, because if you "fail" to find a job the weight to carry will be less and the economical loss (which should have been an investment in your career) will be lower . But don't you really think that nowadays airlines give special attention to which school a pilot obtained his licenses with? I don't want to write FTO names, this is not what this is all about, but what if the airlines deemed some FTOs training, for instance the cheapest, mediocre? I personally think, that depending also on someone's economical status, a balance has to be found. I personally see a bigger risk in spending 40000 euro for a nameless FTO than spending twice that money for a well backgrounded FTO. Thanks for your channel and for your willingness to spend your time explaining all this things. That means a lot for all the aspiring pilots that follow you

It can definitely benefit you if you're exploring options in foreign countries (if you speak that country's native language), as many countries favor pilots who speak the native language. HOWEVER, you must be able to read, write, speak, AND understand English...international ICAO standard.

If you keep your employment a job behind yourself (don't have current company listed on social media) you can basically make it where they can't fire you for something that would be fireable if you had your current employer listed because you in no way shape or form are publicly listed as being part of the company

Well and that's why you either don't use social media at all or you use fake names.. Because everyone should know: Once in the internet, it'll be there forever. If you delete your pictures on facebook, they are not really deleted. If you ask them for all the data they have, you'll get a huge PDF-File with all your posts, images, etc. The "deleted" once are also part of it...

Hi Mentour Pilot. Thank you for the videos it really helps a lot! I hope you can help me with a question I have. I am a South African with a Multi - IF CPL licence and 220 total time. I am considering converting my licence to an EASA Frozen ATPL with MCC and 737 Type Rating. I want to know what is the chances of me getting a second officer job at a Low-Cost Airline if I finish the above-mentioned training? And if it is even possible for me to be hired in the EU if I am not an EU - Citizen even though I have the training needed? I look forward to your response! Morné Visagie - citizenship could be a problem in my opinion, after all why should they hire a non European citizen when there's thousands to chose from who have the right to work & live in Europe ?? If you have the money I'd advise you go to something like eaglejet and enrol in a pay to fly program where you can be posted anywhere where your nationality won't be an issue. Aviation is all about money and contacts, remember that-good luck😉😎

Hey, I'm going to school for aviation starting in january and have been using your videos for research before i jump in. They are extremely helpful. If you have some time I would like a chance to pick your brain about the school im looking at to make sure that it is legit and will lead me to being able to get a job.

***** Oh I totally understand that sentiment, my question is about the structure more than the school directly. Basically the first part of the program they charge you tuition to get the necessary certifications (about $50,000 us dollars) which leaves you with about 450 hours total because the FAA gives you a credit on hours due to the fact that you are going to a school. Then you get the rest of your hours- about 1000 more are needed to work in the US- by being a flight instructor at the school while getting paid to do so. Does that sound legit from your point of view? can you think of any downfalls to that kind of program?

***** They guarantee it as a paid internship, $20 an hour while I do it. In the states we have a work study program which pays $8.50 an hour from the government and the school pays the rest. They have a 92%graduation rate so from what I can tell its a good program, im still looking for graduates to ask about it. The training is on cessna 172's, beechcraft duchess' and piper warriors. is it common to get all your training on smaller planes like that or do you think that other schools would be training with bigger planes? Or would I have to get the training for bigger stuff on the job?

Mentour- just wondering your personal opinion... You kind of implied it in this video but just wanted to double check. With the benefits of medicinal marijuana finally being accepted by modern medicine do you think hair sample testing is still necessary. I understand and agree that flying under the influence is totally unacceptable (both drugs and alcohol) but say for the many pilots who have well over a week as their off time, if they were to take a drug of any kind (marijuana mainly though I guess) and it is completely out of their blood and saliva and therefore many days after any of it's affects have worn off, but only to be detected in hair it would add no risk to the safety of flights they are conducting. Also with the trend to follow countries like portugal that have decriminilased drugs (and actually seen lower usage rates as a result) do you think this methodology of testing will come up against issues. Swab and blood tests are also cheaper than hair follicle testing. Personally I would propose and increase in the regularity of those 2 tests as it could still cost airlines the same, but be more frequent and actually test to see if a pilot is under the influence not 4 weeks after they were.

hello . i am from. i intend to start an integrated atpl courses soon in south africa because i found the an aviation academy called fts provide a good services with a relatively low coast compared to oxford which charges 100000 pounds . so firstly, will the entering assessment be hard . and what to expect when having a frozen atpl from a not well known school ( will the name of school matters ) . thank you ;)

May I ask you a very common question I bet thousands of people asked to you before but is it worth it to start as I am 27 years old based in England and I did want to do the helicopter cpl but I had loads of advices from friends that's it's ways harder than aircraft? And can you list the questions that I need to ask my flying school before I start ? Last question:) I heard that schools some times try to push for more hours to make money how can I stop that from happening as I want to save as much as I can for example ( one of my friends instead of finishing his ppl after 45 hours they added around extra 20 hours ) Thanks

45 year career as helicopter pilot with airplane ratings as well. Helicopters are not any harder than airplanes to fly. Just different way to manipulate controls. Air sense and all other areas are pretty much the same. Both become like riding a bike after a while. Don't worry about it.

ReHi Montour: Some time back when I saw one of your videos done outside, I thoght to see what kind of climate you have in Girona... I was afraid the climate would be stifling hot, but when I looked it up it appeared on first look to be very nice and moderate. Given the month and the fact girona is in the Northern Hemisphere, as I also am, and it was winter at the time here, it looks like not simply a warnmer climate but also not scorching hot. But unfortunately I don't have the monet to travel, and likely never will. So I do it al;l cyber-style, and hers in Momtreal where you can firn an easy 80 languages in a day, and even that does not necessarily mena that that person comes from half way around the world, if they are young adults or younger, they may well be second,m or occasionally third generation. this means they will l have the dual culture of their parents fromthe old country and that of their peers here, and they will know well what's good and what's not! In time they will run this country, and I think better fot it!

ReHi again, Mr. Mentour: On reflection, and remembering what a very senior american pilot had to say about "Could a person of age 35 become an airbus pilot?"... Generally that Pilot's remarks were Yes, he could, but it would be very difficult. He then proceeded to outline the various steps and licences that person would need to obtain, and the various amounts of flying time he would have to accumulate at each level and type of aircraft. My surmise is this: When a prospective pilot is in the various stages up to starting to qualify for flying airbusss, he is paying for his training. The paid trainers are making money on training him, so they will care only to a very limited degrree if he has the personality and temperament that is adept for a flying career in airbusses. Once hte prospective pilot is at the point where his next challengs is to get thde 1500 or so minumum hours he needs in an airbus or similar heavy, he is beyond the economic point where he can buy hos training or of course the cost of owning an airbus is far beyond his means. Hence the real challenge there has more to do with "aviation business' than simply aviation or flying. This is where the big weeding out occurs. consequently there is a lot of peer cometition up to that level, but then the competiton is on a different paradigm. The "great flying dream" of aviation is suddenly gone, overshadowed by the demands of aviation business. Hence, for students of aviation, they should take a hard look at that long before they get to the airbus stage, and before they spent a lot of time and money getting to that stage, so that if in truth, they are not competitively personality adept to the aviation business considerations of that profession, they should seriously consider looking elsewhere. Also, this, to me, is a joint ethical concern, in that if a flying school sees a student who is not adept to the business side of aviation, they should warn that student of the consequences, even at the risk of losing that student. Other enthusiasts and basic students, in seeking a flying school should also expect this kind of ethics from the school they might choose to train with. If a school has the right ethics in that area it seems acidly reasonable that that school will also have a similar degree of good ethics in many other areas as a part of their whole educatonal environment. This is likely to make them notably more expensive than less ethical schools, but anywhere ethics has its price. If virtually all the prospective pilots around demanded that of their schools,. less ethical schools would soon have to "shape up or ship out". As one who LOVES his public speaking, and to whom Spanish is my thir language (not all North Americans are polyglots as most Europeans are) It is well enough known that Spanish is about the most emotive language around. ReHi Mr. Mentour: I would presently say good wee morning here as the local time is 06:21 EDT in Montreal, Wed Sep 28. So glad I could flag an issue for your you & students! Many thanks for your reply! At age 71, (born during the end of WWII) I have had over 1 million Km. on the road. I had a vareid career from assisting with the electronics for neurohysiology research to woorking as a tote operatior on a U.S. racetrack to some 12 years as an industrial electronic tech. That job was very much a job on the road - it;was a bit like being the fire department for the whole of North America. you never really know whewre you're going to end up next, nor what issues might greet you there, as client's service requests can be very lacking in detail and accuracy. Much as I loved droving, during the 80's theyonly once allowed me to drive further than Montreal to, say Quebec City (about 230 miles), Ottawa (about 120 miles) or KIngston ON (about 160 miles). this was because the cost of my time to do the driving would outweigh the cost of an airplane ticket. I have flown, albeit piecemeal, from one ocean to the other. The employer was somewhat of a specialized agency, renting technicians to many industries all over the world. On one job some of my colleagues flew to the job one way and back home around the world the other way. But when the job is on the island of Sulawesi, Indonesai that did make sense! another had an interesting route from a navigational point of view: Montreal QC, Edmonton AB, Nanisivik NT. Each leg was about 5 1/2 hours flying time, likely in a 135 sear jet, yet if you look at the vector from Montreal to Nanisivik, then Montreal to Edmonton, you might think how is such a roughly equilateral triangular route possible? Nanisivik is located just in from the Northwestern side of Baffin Island. That far up in the Arctic meant that the curvature of the earth turned the whole thin into more the shape of a quasi-trangular non-flat orange peel. also, in those conditions, a piloit would have to be well versed in ice and Arctic flying, and the added challenges of the changing differences between Magnetic and true north. also, radio transmission does not behave the same in the artic as it does in temeprate or tropical areas! Normal maps mean little also! "That's nav!" The best jobs for me were "hero jobs". when a job so complicated and downright dangerous came along that everyone else would run, I would pick it up. A ""professional hero" is often not appreciated, but when all the small p politics was out of the way, I could then say now that I'm in control, I'm going to save your bacon! Jobs sometimes oincilved liquid explosives on top of Canada's rockies, or nuclear wast in the"doomsday room" of a U.S. nuclear plant, electrical power up to 12 Kv. etc. Simply, you do it right or you might well not come back alive! But here I am! Not having the normal degree of people skills (due to a combination of bad parenting and an exceptional series of other enigmas, that were far, far from understood at the time, I had the lifetime challenge of "figuring it all aout", then figuring out why even that was not really all.. At this point you can see I've had a very exceptional life, even though learning from"The School of hard Knocks" IS hard knocks, very hard knocks, I can't regret it as I know the true value of " La verdadura " which I have exoriced to posterity and humanity, notwihstanding who might ab about to listen and who not. In the end "The Early birds will get the worms". I do not have the time and resources to run a blog or (so far) upload videos, but in time I hope to have the chance, un-monetized, and staunchly unbeholding and incorruptible! Canadians are sometimes seen as the diplomats of the world, however they can also be on the wimpish side at times and a true diplomat cannot ve a wimp, so let the mettle be strong! (and of anyone is not familiar, that mettle has NOTHING to do with Aluminum or Steel! the word is Shakespearean.) Having hear this part of my history, you might well imagine why I chose that line in Spanish: ¡ Haber compasión es la hija de han sida sofrie ! Hello, this is a great channel and the points you make in this video is very helpful. The aviation industry is very complex and extremely tough to get in to. I have a B737/300-900 rating and is also working as a flight instructor total time 900h. Fingers crosses to get a F/O job at rednose. Is that the company you work at? When I was in flight school(ATPL integrated) some crazy guy was kicked out of our school, because he was doing stunts all the time when he was flying solo and he let his housemates film it from the ground and he put the videos on youtube lol.

In Argentina, College is free... So i am between start taking my private pilot license and meanwhile study architecture (as plan b (i love architecture)), OR study aeronautical engenieering, BUT since i will be VERY busy studying for this degree i wont be able to take my private pilot licence, so i will have to wait until i finish the career to start with my private pilot licence clases... What do you recommend me to do? Thanks for your time

Fun fact - in last few months my faceebook shown at least two different recruitment ads from airlines for pilot jobs, together with typerating training etc, despite me having neither any license, nor being paricularly qualified to even get one (bad eyesight)....

Good morning, I'm an Italian girl studyng in Canada for becoming a pilot. I'm getting close to the CPL and immediately after I'll do my IATPL. My question is: Should I go back to Europe and convert my licences or the aviation world is better here in Canada / America? MasterTunaFish That's because Ryanair and other airlines such as EasyJet, Flybe and so on have partnerships with many aviation schools whereby they will take you on once you have finished your training or during your training. I think EasyJet and Flybe do have integrated programs at aviation schools too.

I once had an interview by a company who had researched me online - they asked me to criticise my current employer and with hindsight I should have completely refused their request. Beware of this when it happens, they are looking for a reason not to employ you. Which is of course disgraceful if you are taking the time to interview someone.

In the USA, any sort of prosthetic is going to require a a Statement of Demonstrated Ability (SODA) -- a special issuance of a medical certificate. More info about this from the FAA: www.faa.gov/about/office_org/headquarters_offices/avs/offices/aam/ame/guide/app_process/general/appeals/soda/ However, this does not guarantee that you will be hired. Some airlines may not accept special issuance medical certificates.

Now to my questions.Quite a number of them :) 1. i hear there is now some new regulation concerning getting an atpl licence and you will have to do a course before writing the exams at an extra cost. How true is this please? 2. You mentioned in one of your videos that you would speak to your wife to come and share some insight on CRM & pilot and air stewardess marriages. Is that gonna happen please?..It would be highly resourceful if it did. :) 3. Does flying in bad weather create more stress to the captain and copilot in the cockpit than in good weather? thanks man

Thanks Petter for the info. The reason I'm asking about the ATPL is dat a friend of mine has been flying for a regional airline without an ATPL for a couple of years and he is now going to do the ATP CTP course before writing the exam. He says its some new regulations from FAA. Could u ask some of the young pilots u fly with about this please? 2. Are you required to do a skill test in the 747-800 simulator every 6 months or so by your airline? Thanks and keep it up with the content

Re: Question 1: Yes, in the USA regulation 14 CFR 61.156 became effective after 31 Jul 2014 and pilots are now required to pass a very expensive ATP-CTP course prior to taking the written exam for the ATP AMEL certificate. Some US regional airlines will pay for this ATP-CTP course for their new hires. Nismo RS the CAA allow +5 to -6 for a class 1 medical, however my eyesight is -6 and after a lot of research i think they may still give you a medical but they will refer you to a specialist

+Adam McVeigh not anymore, there are no limits anymore as long as you have the minimum corrected visus with spectacles or lenses. Also pre-operative limits have been removed.

Adrian bachini Nice. That's what I'm trying to get my 4 year degree (computer science ) but I'm going to start my flight school before I get into college so I just can gain more hours. Because if you wanna apply for any airlines the first thing that they care is how much hours and experience you put on your flight. Computer science is actually very useful in everything and also in aviation. Anyway good luck.

Adrian Bash Look into the military, having that degree makes you eligible for officer school and flight school slots. Comp sci will be seen as favorable considering the amount of electronics which go into those planes and when you get out you’ll be a super pilot by comparison since they emphasize highly aggressive flying which you’ll never see in the civilian world (even for those giant transports).

Interesting you mention peoples live profile and the bad or not bad impression it leaves to a potential employer sniffing you out and seeing your internet carbon footprint but again I'm one with silly questions but hey I'm going to risk it any way :) Suppose a potential pilot had an interest for example in say the paranormal, an open mindedness to things that go bump in the night, haunted houses, invisible entities and forces. Would that be a cause of concern with someone who had these kinds of open mindedness to wanting to become a pilot? or would that be something best kept hidden. We all have secrets I'm sure. I'm not sure how the psychological testing works on these kinds of topics. [lololol] Thanks again!!
