The Hogy 7' pocket surf rod harkens to surf rod designs of the 1970s and 80s that had to compensate for pushing thick mono far distances, often with fewer and forward placed guides on a heavy fiberglass blank. While we no longer have to endure casting and fishing with mono on glass, we can still enjoy this rods ability to launch a wide range of lure styles and weights very long distances. While I like this rod for "bare foot" beach fishing it is also a killer albie rod on the boat when the importance of distance outweighs pin point accuracy, which is why we put a gimbal butt on a "surf rod".
