I really appreciate all of the years of knowledge you are just sharing with us. Its really kind and very helpful. My absolute favorite part though, of your video, was hearing about your background and traveling from Seattle to Alaska. I could listen to stories like that for HOURS. I love hearing the experiences people have that have shaped them into who they are. Things you may not have ever known or guessed they have gone through, after hearing them tell you about their adventures its beautifully mind blowing. I just love it. I just wanted to tell you thank you for sharing that. Letting us have a peek into your world. Thank you. 🥰 🌼 🌸 🌺🥀🪷🏵🌹😍 💕 And the necklace is LOVELY!!! I know you said you wouldn't sell it because of the little pinpoints on it but its absolutely beautiful!! Its got that vintage look and reminds me of Victorian style which is really pretty! But its absolutely lovely! Id buy it, Im sure im not alone here either. 🥰

Love your experience. It's inspiring to move forward on all the things I dabble in. However, I'm a truck driver and my time is soooo limited. I craft in my truck and was inspired by you last year to dry my own flowers. I've only done a few but I sure enjoy using them.

Hi Stefanie, love this story. Brings back memories of my younger days when I lived on the road for awhile and would press flowers along the way. I could never take a walk without looking around at what was growing in the area and wondering "how will those look pressed?". So glad you are dabbling as time allows. Stay safe and have fun, Em

Hi! Thank you for putting together this series! Beautiful and helpful 😊 do you know of an index of which flowers press well and a rating of what ones hold colors? I mostly wanted to tell you, in case you haven't found it, there are *matte* laminating sheets!
@emsplace
@emsplace Жыл бұрын
Hi Sandi, I don't know of any index that you talk about. However my videos for Peeking at Flowers shows what I press and the results. I generally comment about color retention and mostly press things that I have found over the years to be good color keepers. Yes I have some mattte laminate and use that too. I like both the regular and the matte, just depends upon my mood:-) Thank you for watching, Em

Appreciate this video! :) Do you have a recommended medium to use on pressed flowers that I intend to cast into resin? I was thinking alcohol dye since it’s often used in resin art, but I’m concerned that if I use it on my pressed flowers it’ll leach into the resin once I cast it
@emsplace
@emsplace Жыл бұрын
Hi, your assumptions are correct in my experience. Alcohol dye/ink is used as a colorant for resin and hence, mixes in with that medium. You don't want to use alcohol inks/dyes for the pressed flowers - the color will bleed into resin. I always use water based colorants or acetone ones (nail polish if they are very small). Experiment, but I wild look at the water soluble pigments. Having said that, I do use rubbing alcohol to thin some water soluble paints, instead of water to thin, and that does not seem to cause any ill effects in resin. Play around and try some tests. Thank you for watching, Em

Do you ever just let the pressed flowers continue to fade? If you were to simply allow nature to take its course, will all flowers eventually be so dull that they aren’t desirable? I would love to press a bridal bouquet and no enhance in any way but I would hate to ruin it. Maybe a spray to help preserve some what naturally....what do you think about that? Would love for you to share your Wisdom on that!!!

Even natural flowers, to me, are still pretty over time. Life force and all... It takes lots of patience and trial and error to color enhance, and is a personal choice. Please anybody reading this: nobody should feel that arrangements are not beautiful in their own right if not color enhanced. I just personally enjoy the process and find it very relaxing:-)

Hello! What can I use to color enhance white roses? Thank you 😊
@emsplace
@emsplace Жыл бұрын
Hi, You can try alcohol ink, fabric dye and any other white based product. Hopefully you have a couple of extra to experiment with. Depends on if you want the colorant to be opaque or translucent. Generally, I use alohol ink or translucent fabric paint diluted with a 70% rubbing alcohol to dilute if needed. Just test that any paint thinned with rubbing alcohol does not curdle the paint. Testing is always key. One last comment: using an alcohol or solvent base paint may ru/bleed if using you item in resin or under an adhesive that stays tacky - for example packing tape or contact paper. In that case a water based paint works and can still be thinned with rubbing alcohol. Thank you for watching, Em

Have you ever color enhanced orchids dried in silica gel? I need help with this…. Thank you!
@emsplace
@emsplace Жыл бұрын
Hi, while I have color enhanced silica and flowers air dried upside down, I have not done any orchids. While others may know of more methods, generally I dip them in the diluted dye (diluted with rubbing alcohol) or sprayed on with an air brush. Always test first because each botanical is different and will react in their own way. Thank you for watching, Em

Hi Em, would white acrylic paint work to enhance white hydrangeas?
@emsplace
@emsplace Жыл бұрын
Hi, Yes acrylic paint will work. If not diluted it will be pretty opaque. I find it is shiny if that is what you are going for. Experiment and see. I would dilute it with a 70% rubbing alcohol. Do a small test first to make sure it is compatable with your brand of paint and does not curdle or otherwise affect the paint. Other things to try are white alcohol ink, matte white paint, nail polish if a small item, and any other white you may have around. I have not tried this yet but it is on my "to do" list, and that is matte white latex paint from the hardware store diluted with a little rubbing alcohol. Play around, and thanks for watching, Em

@@amrithamanmadhan7475 Hydrangea are very easy to color. White alcohol ink diluted with alcohol should be the best bet, IMHO. If you are going to use them in resin or under a protective cover that stays sticky (for example packing tape, contact paper, cold laminate, etc) then test and let sit a week or so. Some alchohol inks can "bleed" color under these types of protectants. Under glass, hot laminate, acetate, wax paper and such, there are no color bleeding issues.
