Buildings, power/utility lines, propane tank. Crane job! No doubt about it! Or, a LOT of rigging! Without the crane I doubt that could have been done in one day. This video was awesome! Maybe it is a reaction to coming back after so many days without an August Hunicke Video fix! (Sounds like an addiction!) I loved the falling crane and sound effects near the beginning! You crack me up sometime, Brother!

Just found this channel I enjoy it...crane operator here and I do tons of trees around Lake Winnipesaukee...the manitex I use is a 30 ton 124wl rear mount...perfect for trees around here...no LMI though...pre tensioning without an LMI requires both the climber and op to know their trade well

i was thinking pretty much the same thing. that would freak me out! i'm watching this video thinking of ways to set up a lanyard so it would instantly disconnect BOTH sides so i could swing away when needed, and if i didn't get away in time and still got hit (after disconnecting it) i would be pushed away instead of broken against the lanyard. In the past i've when in a rotten tree and tied into another, i've had both ends of my lanyard on a panic snap on the bridge, however this keeps you further from the tree than is comfortable for working.

Pick 6 swings out and swings back. Joe instinctively puts his hand out to stop it. I have done this too. To me it is similar to the old, fat guys in sandals and slacks in the chainsaw fail videos pushing at the stem they have been cutting to stop it from going the wrong way. Instinct tells us to reach out and apply force! Rational thought (and a little applied physics) tells us a climber in a tree is not going to have much effect on a 1,000 pound piece of oak swinging in from three feet out! Every time I do something like this I have competing thoughts: Dang! I hope no one saw that! (pride) and WOW! Thank you to whatever force, Spirit, Being, Influence, etc. kept me from getting hurt! (gratitude). Stay safe out there, my Brothers! I'm getting back to watching the rest of AH's videos in chronological order.

Use caution with pulling loads away from the crane with the Vermeer 3:52. Did you notice the boom deflecting (bending) down (outwards) as he pushed the load? If you're close to capacity, the ground machine could pull you out of radius and into the news. Be careful of setting one end of a load on the ground and booming down and out of radius too. You probably know this but the weight of the block or ball must be included as part of the load. Loved the eyes.
@AugustHunicke

Craneman yeah, actually I’ve been a broken record all week insisting to set things down without any mechanical assistance. If I remember right, the landing area was better a angle than pick area. But yeah I read all of that loud and clear. Crane certification class tomorrow actually.

Please take this as constructive criticism Samurai Joe; stop varying the throttle when cutting those limbs & chunks up there & just cut thru the wood ASAP, especially with the computer not working. If August puts too much tension on the line pulling up cuz you're playin with the throttle instead of just cutting thru the wood the crane line could break, boom snap off, crane topple over etc.. OKar? & yeah I know what I'm talking about, I've done it for a living too. Not trying to be a jerk, just learn from it & keep up the good work. Take care & GOD Bless.
