Let's have fun!
As long as you use the same battery/ RDA (RDTA, RTA) you can compare the e-juice consumption between any regulated and unregulated device. I chose squonkers because it is easy, but feel free to join in on this data collection as long as you meet the basic requirement of same battery/RDA on a regulated and an uregulated device.
Keep it simple, don't trust your memory, don't guess. Start from scratch, and write the two numbers down:-)
In the commentary field state the following:
Mech mod device ml of e-juice per charge: ?
Regulated mod device ml of e-juice per charge: ?

Wow your quad-20700 mod looks awesome! I’ve been thinking of building a box mod or a squonker for a while now and I think it’s time to start building. I got inspired when I saw your! Maybe I should convert my VooPoo drag to a mech squonk, that would be cool!

There are not many tools needed to make a mech from scratch. If you are not in a hurry, that is :-) Some copper tubes, hack saw, jewelers saw, anvil, hammers, drill and so on. The biggest problem is to find a good piece of dry wood or laminating enough wood to make a blokk. But most of the things I do I have learned from youtube. There are great craftsmen around where I live, so I get plenty of help from them too. If you get stuck in your project, fell free to aske me for advice. Good luck!

Mech w/ 21700 - 16ml Regulated w/ 21700 - 16ml Mech was MCM underground squonk, regulated was USMods stinger 75C, rda was gr1 with tri-core fused Clapton, NI80, 28x3/40, 0.37 ohm, battery was Samsung 40T. I usually get more out of my regulated because I can run the battery down farther without loosing vape quality, but when I stopped at the same voltage for each, which was 3.55v, this is the results I ended up with.

😄 It is made for the new 30mm Zathog RDA from Cthulhu Mod that is soon to be released. Volt drop is only 0.30 V with a 0.50 Ohm build. It is a mech mod. Building it was a straight forward process. Making the drawings took me a couple of weeks. With custom made instruments, it would have been 3-4 cm lower. Mesurements are 4.2 x 5.7x 13cm. I know it looks a bit bigger, but that is mostly due to all the different materials and messy exterior lines. Very comfortable to hold because it is light, only 567 grams with the batteries and RDA.

Very interesting.. I enjoy larger devices especially mechanical box -mod,s as i love the power & the coil matching to provide me with a full - bodied flavor from the cream,s & vanilla,s I make, I prefer larger 30mm r.d.a,s etc... thats the way I personally like the best" regulated mods have their place -for sure usually the scrap heap as mine have all died" & my faith in the reliability of a regulated chip driven device is in question "so i find your experiment of consumption vs mech & chip really cool. . regards B-b

😄 It's two coils, 22g Kanthal hammered flat, 2,5mm inner diameter, the whole build is at 0.13 Ohm. Just my standard dual coil build. Works great, and the temperature on the RDA stays below 38 degrees C. Fantastic RDA. Horrible to build on, but worth it.
@poelmeister

Morten Oen It’s not really the coils I’d like to see... It’s the wicking that breaks my balls. :D I know you’re supposed to glue wick to that top part and God knows I’ve tried but then the whole wick part comes too close to the port and it all makes me a bit rrrnnghmmm. :)
@neotoxo54
@neotoxo54 6 жыл бұрын
IMHO, wicking verticals is relatively easy...the trick? Temporarily set the place of the coils then remove them...hold between your fingers and wick....trim the wick as needed before setting back in place. I was very frustrated with my first 502 build...but now, doing as I described I don’t hesitate to change them out...sometimes a couple of times in one day when I’m playing with different builds.

It depends on the board how much energy is wasted and the wiring used in the said board. Some boards are 97% efficient so only 3% gets wasted (DNA200 for example), there are boards that are only 70% efficient. The most efficient ones would be the DNA's (maybe YiHi, l dont know much about their boards). Its similar to how PSU's in our PC's have efficiency on the conversion of AC to DC.

Unfortunately I don't have a mechanical squonk box. I will say however, that the experiment with different coil diameters 100% changed the way I build my tube mech. Going a bit old school and building 2mm coils results in a much harder hitting dual coil build, than the current trend of 3mm inner diameter. I can't wait to see the results of this test and I'm sure we are losing some battery life in the chip/electronic components of our regulated mods.

@Morten Oen nice experiment, but a mech mod will drop voltage while the battery discharges while the regulated wont.So i assume that the regulated will have more consumption due to more wattage.Maybe we should do a bypass vs true mech.
@mortenoen434
@mortenoen434 6 жыл бұрын
I had the Pulse 80W on bypass mode, watt mode and volt mode. No difference in results. As I see it, there are two main issues here. The chip itself, and the (poor?) wiring in these kind of devices. First I want to find out some sort of statistical middle value. Then see what is what. If I have to do it myself, it will take me a month or two. Just hoping to speed up the prosess by keeping it simple for now:-)

Mark from Chicago, IL, USA, I'm here so you don't have to be. I live in a condo and hammering wire on an anvil, which I do not own an anvil, would make me a not so nice neighbor. Sadly, I don't have a regulated squonker, only use drippers & switch my flavours up all day, so I can't take part in the experiment. On the upside though, my Njord finally arrived from Atom yesterday. :-) No flavour, my arse! I've only had one build in it so far, but the flavour is there for sure. I'm no reviewer, but with over 30 mods & around 50 atomizers, I have a bit of experience. The "air blades" can stay in the box though. They don't add anything to the experience & just get in the way.

Well Morten, I don’t own any regulated squonks...and my regulated devices are triple battery. I pretty much use only DIY PWM or Parallel Mosfet squonkers. Although the PWMs are variable voltage devices I’m not sure they could be considered ‘regulated’. So, I guess I will sit quietly awaiting my NJORD and the results of this latest experiment. Take Care.

Hey Oen, hope you are doing well. Question, have you tried to sand down the Pulse 80w to fit a 21700? I really want to try it but don’t want to ruin it lol. I would really appreciate your thoughts, I’m currently just using 18650s with the adapter and batt life is terrible obviously. I would love to be able to use the new Samsung 21700 cells. Also, it’s really interesting that the chip is getting hotter than the rda, I saw a video with a guy that had a defective one. His was getting hot between the chip and the battery and also down where the bottle rests against the chip where you squeeze. He measured temperatures up to I believe 113 degrees F. His was faulty though, and was replaced. Cheers!
@mortenoen434
@mortenoen434 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Kyle! Sounds like the temperatures that I get. But in performance it's just slightly worse than the Pulse BF mech. The Squeezer when modifyed is just the best mech squonker out there (single battery) when it comes to energy efficiency. I'll sand away a little on my Pulse 80W, but it will take a while to get a 21700 to fit :-) I't will not be ruined I think, and it sure can need the extra battery life. But update the firmware. The "H" setting is very interesting.

hi Oen , I am not expert but I can imagine what the result will be, the regulated squonker will use more liquids than the unregulated, it's just logical. if we set the regulated squonker around 4 volts to equal ruffly the unregulated squonker then the regulated one will push 4volts constantly until the battery goes down to 3.5 volts unlike the unregulated which will drop voltage constantly therefore having a weaker vape, the consequence is quite logical in that we would have a stronger vape and more power to the coil for longer therefore more liquid used with a regulated. As for the chip getting warm, it's like a car engine where the turbo is pushing the engine to give more power than it's supposed to, so the chip is working hard like a turbo and therefore getting warm. please tell me if i am wrong oh i did forget the energy wasted by the board as micobugija mentioned so my logic might be completely wrong lol it was fun to have a crack at it 😜😉

Hi jp! There are many ways of using a regulated device, but in the end, the board and chip is an added resistance on the circuit, and it gets hot. Does it matter? That is what we are here to find out:-)

Adnan Sabljic I agree. I have a G.R.1 and a few wasp nano's and many other low profile rda's and if built properly then you get zero spitback and great flavor that's unparalleled by any large chamber 24mm rda's. Some people are just set in their ways and aren't willing to learn a better/more efficient way of vaping or building.

To each their own of course. I too enjoy the Wasp Nano and have 3 myself but all I was saying was that the GR1 is very similar but there does seem to be a slight learning curve for it as some builds that suit my Wasp Nano do not suit the GR1. Not a big deal as I'm sure you have many more products that suit your style of vaping. I was just stating that no matter how I build my GR1 it delivers great flavor without spitback nor excessive heating. Some builds shine in it however and some are a bit hot and flat, if you get what I mean. Thanks for taking the time to reply
