In this video I go through what I did to test my IPR valve. I believe the valve is bad.

If you have never worked on one of these or have never been anything but an assistant to your buddy that's working on YOUR ride. Just shut up and don't make yourself look ignorant. He didn't burn up anything. I've personally taken these out cleaned out that POS screen that always comes apart, hooked them to a car battery with some air to make sure it functions put them back in and ran it.

just saying, the last time i checked voltage from the ipr connector it was 12 volts and i do believe it is a regulator and not a sensor

Ecm pulses ground to it to operate and needs the same voltage close to what the battery is pushing or no dice

The only way to know if this test is good is to try a new one and see if it does what is expected. I have a suspicion that your air pressure isnt high enough, the ipr may be like an injector and use a small valve within the body to open and close a spool on the main apertures, shop air not being able to open or close it. You can use a brushed r/c motor controller and a servo tester to fire solenoids with pwm.

Probably only uses 5v DC from the PCM to the sensor. 12 could probably burn it out. Most sensord use 5 v as a reference from the PCM. Basically...Then the sensor sends a certain voltage signal back to PCM according to its purpose, if it is working properly, and its signal will send its volts back to the PCM which will control other things, like more fuel, pressure, air, oil, etc...

I would like to know what type of symptoms you are having. I see allot of people posting videos of what they are fixing but most people don't give the reason for the fix to begin with.

most automotive sensors run 5 volts are you sure it needs 12v?
@patrickvining13897 жыл бұрын
the ipr is not a sensor it is a regulator and mine has 12v at the connector

The IPR grounds through itself, one of the wires is battery voltage and the other is a control used by the ecm
@Jaksmodteam3 жыл бұрын
No it doesn’t it’s a coil... one is positive and one is negative it’s impossible for it to ground to itself because the coil is not attached to the actual spool you can slide the coil off the spool there would be no good way to get a ground on that you would have to solder a wire from the coil housing to the spool housing.

I have mine apart right now. Need to do this test. Any more results from testing old vs new?

Sir. Where is your test of a known good working IPR. You only made half of an experiment.

thank i had to order mine either way put the same 12 volts and nothing at all so waiting for arrival hopefully my truck gets better with the change of ipr and the icp. icp was bad either way

How did you know if the ICP WAS BAD

@@hrdcoreme i had it scanned and turn out i had a bad ipr and the icp besides my glow plug module is bad the truck starts but hard to start we getting there alowly but we getting there

@@genarogarcia6719 I had a buddy scan mine too. I thought it was the IPR even though it was showing it to begetting the command it would build pressure passed 150psi.so I took it out and just with my lungs if I held the IPR UP OVER my head and blew into it the valve would shut till I turned it up side down and I was well there it is but the new one did the same. So I’m banging my head trying to figure out how to air test the hole system with out ordering fittings.
@genarogarcia67192 жыл бұрын
@@hrdcoreme im not an expert but ive been learning but that spring is preaty strong for u just to be able to blow air just by ur lungs. What i suggest is exchange the new one and get urself a motorcraft oem ipr they r pretty expensive but ull be more safe than buying cheap ones. No air should come out of it without putting 12 vlt on it

So, I'm having some start issues and only reaching 1000psi at full throttle (should be around 4300psi), on my 2004 F250 6.0. Hooked up 40psi air the way you did and it leaks the same way. Have you tested a new IPR to see if that is good or bad?
@JohnBorkowski6 жыл бұрын
Both the IPR and HPOP were bad. I replaced both and its been fine since. Wasnt too bad of a job.

It depends on which one you're working on. The 6.0 one will. The 7.3 won't.
@jamesgibson1406 жыл бұрын
Couldn’t you just test the resistance?? I know on my 3126 cat you can
@jepthatuten340611 ай бұрын
The resistance between Pin 1 and Pin 2 on the IPR Valve connector should read between 3 Ohms to 15 Ohms. If the reading is outside this specification the IPR Valve (internally bad solenoid) should be replaced
@jeffmclowry8 жыл бұрын
I believe all the sensors on the 7.3 operate on 5vdc. Applying 13.8v is prolly trashing it but hopefully not.
@ClintsTractor7 жыл бұрын
This is a 6.0L IPR not a 7.3L...
@mark-12346 жыл бұрын
The IPR is not a sensor. It's an actuator/regulator, and yes, it does work on 12 volts.
@aeroguy864 жыл бұрын
Ipr is normally open and as you crank the computer wants to see at least 500 psi it archives this by closing thats why its a bad thing to see the ipr hit 85% because it closed all the way and youre still not getting the oil pressure this test is useless. Also just an fyi once you arc it like that its trash

you command it close when doing an air test. you also charged it with 12v instead of 5, you trashed it.

It has a 12v supply. The return voltage (switched side) will pull down to 5 volts when at 65% duty cycle. So, no, he hasn't trashed it.

not the proper way to test ipr, and 12v will not damage ipr unless you leave it connected for longer then 30 seconds per diagnostics manual, 10 International tech!
@nvonaspern7 жыл бұрын
407REPO so how do you know if you have a bad IPR? I did gear someone saying you can apply volts to it and it should actuate. Am I wrong? please let me know, I'm having trouble with my 2004.5 6.0, holds air through HPOP and I don't hear any leaks. con: sitting 3 Mo takes 3x crank to start, slow to build lpop. tiny bit of shavings on IPR screen.
