FGS! Cavalrymen are called Troopers. Their Horses are Chargers. The Cavalry men are all called Troopers as the ones on foot also take their turns Mounted. The Infantry Men at Buckingham, Kensington & St James Palaces, The Tower, Clarence House & Windsor are called Guardsmen. They are the ones in Ceremonial Bearskins & Red Tunics. The Cavalrymen at Horse Guards work on a One hour on & two hour off Roster. So the Troopers on Horseback do 1 hr on the Horse, then do another hour dismounted. Did you think they work 1 hr & go back to Barracks? The only ones who aren't called Trooper are Officers & those who work looking after the Horses, they are called either Stableman or Strappers.

👩🏻‍💻Many years ago when the Salt Lake Jazz played the Chicago Bulls in basketball I was fortunate to be able to go to a game in Chicago. When the game was over I exited the venue and saw a really calm crowd of people as the police on horseback gently walking amongst the crowd. I have never experienced this phenomenon of horses among the people. I think of this experience when I observe people agitating these royal horses doing their duty, the beauty of this soldier doing his duty on such a beautiful animal strikes me as majestic and with strength without even having to say a word. 🙋‍♀️🥰🇺🇲🇬🇧

It goes to show that they can speak to the public if it falls within his role whilst on duty, whether it be a possible terrorist threat or a potential robbery I guess both could be seen as a security matter. They’ve got a good vantage point from the saddle and are likely trained to be very observant and recognise things which are out of the ordinary. Tourists coming up for a photo with the horse, whilst it might be a minor irritation, is to be expected.

What a LOT of people do not realize is that while these soldiers are dressed in historically accurate uniforms and trained to basically stand there and do nothing, they ARE serving soldiers and they have a duty to perform. Cross their duty at your peril. It has been shown lots of places. King's Guard around the palace in the UK, Old Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the US, other units in other places, no matter where they are do NOT assume that because they look funny that they are not paying attention and/or are harmless. IT WILL HURT. 'nuff said.

I respect them for their brave duty of protecting royal people that dont do shit but smile and wave around while eating up tons of tax money. And dressing up like a fool from the napoleonic era really is necessary and its not totally obvious that this show is gonna attract tourists.

This horse has a lovely pink nose…..beautiful creature. I still don’t understand why the public are allowed so close to the horse and rider, and the area. (Look how many backpacks there are in this video). The horses are so vulnerable. There should be a barrier somewhere…..and that lovely white horse was walking in time with the music.

Exactly. No one should forget the Hyde Park and Regent's Park bombings of 1982. Eleven soldiers and seven horses lost their lives in those incidents. One horse, badly injured managed to pull through. His name was Sefton. The Guards are rightly vigilant about unattended backpacks, parcels and other paraphernalia. No one wishes to see that carnage again.
