@@Dimaz42 it’s not the norm, & it isn’t SUPER-very-extra common, but it’s impactful and dreadful, so when we talk about it, it does seem “big.” Are violent rage-full moms, sisters, cousins, and girlfriends more common in some countries ? 🤷‍♀️ Perhaps they are *slightly* more common in Ireland, and in Brazil. But only by a smidgen, and we / us “dating-dudes” can be grateful that we get an unambiguous lesson no-one can ignore the first time it happens. … & the FIRST TIME it happens, take the lesson & *bail* out & *don’t* look back because JUST like “men” who do that, they get more flagrant and destructive & ultimately more dangerous with time and “license.” And whatever happened to make her that way: my Dude, it happened LOOOONG before you met her: probably in her formative years, so you can’t “fix it.” Who has more influence on her behaviour ? A new “possible” boyfriend, just met ? Or her family environment from zero-to-17 years of age ? The bad formative conditions have DECADES on you, and they likely came from family. Are you gonna ameliorate the emotional dis-regulation that escalates into violence and hyperbolic-hurt-shouts with calm understanding and insightful & well-intentioned talks ? She’ll apologise after such a chat, but she won’t change.

The reason I'm becoming a therapist is because of my Irish ancestry. It's a huge part of me breaking the cycle of alcoholism and clinical depression going unspoken and unresolved. I love my heritage though. Cheers sister, this was very well done!

The potatoe famine and subsequent diaspora did a lot to imprint anger and self medicating in the psyche I reckon. I am Irish on both sides of my family, Mums family arrived in Australia in 1890 and my Dads side in 1869. As Irish in Australia they did it tough as the English still ruled here, it took a couple of generations for proper acceptance. I think the alcohol helped mask the fact they were considered working Irish and not up to the mark of the English right into the 1960s this still was still happening. Its now so multiciltural here no one really cares.

Fabulous set, Katie!✨ I was engaged to an Irish gal for a few years. The father being a gentle spirit and her mother being more of an enforcer are also true in my ex's family. So my ex learned her lesson; she thought she could break the generational curse by "divorcing" a gentle spirit like me. -red.

@JayM404 it’s not all leprechauns & strong soap, & cable-knit fisherman sweaters, though. Chicago, Boston, & NYC have Irish ethnic neighborhoods that bear marks of multigenerational, intergenerational trauma: crime, needless physical violence, poverty, and more. We Irish ARE great writers, poets, lyricists, story-tellers and musicians, but some of the less admirable stereotypes about us are often true as well ☘️

That's because a lot of Irish slaves were taken over to the west indies and many male slaves integrated and made families over there. That's why there's Irish surnames over there and roads named after Irish men.
