The internet went in on Amy Schumer over what was considered to be a less than impressive engagement ring. Loni Love, Tamera Mowry-Housley, Jeannie Mai, Adrienne Houghton and guest co-host Amara La Negra discuss whether size matters. Do you think a small engagement ring is a deal-breaker?

Exactly. If you want an expensive object buy what you want. If you want a good man,and you measure his goodness on what he bought,that says a lot about you.

My ring was $281 (maybe less but he got a warranty for it) and it's my fave color and fave stone. I get compliments ALL THE TIME on it. It's more meaningful than a worthless diamond anyway.

Yup. Those types of people look to be served but do not serve in return. Besides here is my perspective. If your not content with the size of the ring your significant other gifts you, then Talk! open your mouth and express to him whatever reason it is that you may not be content with the ring. There could be so many reasons behind the factvtgat he bought a small ring. Maybe he thought it was your taste, Maybe he thought it would flatter your hand better. Don't just give the could shoulder to a man becuase he didn't fullfill a shallow expectation of yours. Give him a chance to explain and if his explanation concludes that he just didn't wanna put the work in for a nicer ring then that is a deal breaker for me. At the end of the day if rather have a small modest ring but a man with a heart of gold who listens, loves, and caters to my needs. There is so much more to a man than his money.. nough said.

Some people say worthless diamond this or that. To be honest. Expensive cars or iPhone or buying any material stuff it's all because people like it. It has nothing to do with the prices. The only thing is we people all like things that look nice. Weather it's buying a Playstation or anything that don't needed in daily life. But we like it. So it's about if you want to give the significant other also what she likes and you still can love eachother and live they a family till the day your old. And small rings or no rings can also be like a big diamond no meaning. Some of you say small ring but he is good to me. No hunney. You can not tell as the big ring that small ring that your man is better. Both ways isn't true. Finally two living together and happy with eachother weather small or big. Both has nothing to do with it but it's nice to get one if he would want to get you something he could put efford in it to give you as a a reminder. You giving birth and everythjng. So give your lady something you would want to give yourself yoo

When my husband and I got engaged we were in our early 20’s and all he could afford were small rings. And you know what, I still love them now, 9 years later. All that matters is that I married the man I love. Period. Oh, also, my husband bought himself an engagement band to wear after he proposed. I’m not gonna lie, I thought it was pretty weird at first, but I love that he wanted everyone to know that he was taken.

@winter_s_44
@winter_s_44 6 жыл бұрын
Your comment is nonsensical and I have no idea what point you are trying to make. The money you save up to purchase a ring can just go into a bank and be kept for a rainy day. Have you ever tried to sell a diamond ring for what you purchased it for, or more? As someone with 15 years in the diamond business said: "Diamonds are not an investment - they are a retail product like any other. People explain away spending thousands of dollars on a little stone because they mistakenly believe that the diamond is a solid investment. Are there any other investment classes where the person selling you the asset makes a minimum 10 percent profit margin (usually much more)? Most people would be lucky to get half of what they paid if they tried to sell a ring the day after they bought it. Don’t fool yourself into thinking that buying a diamond is a safe place to put away money for a rainy day."
@whydoyoucare9203

No offense, but people are getting divorced so often because they settle for peanuts, in order to get “a ring,” and because they’re so concerned with how things look rather then how things actually are. A man should get what he can afford and it should be happily accepted. People really should look deeper in relationships and how they are represented.

Zireling Personally, I am a bit old fashioned, in that I want to wear a ring of some kind that tells the world that a good man asked for my hand. I don't need to be there when he picks it out and I don't need to know how much it cost. But I think the man is the most important thing - how he loves you and how he cherishes you is what counts in my opinion (and everything I said before is how I feel). And he loves you by picking out what he can afford and if you truly love someone you would accept what they can afford to give you. Loved hearing your opinion.

I told my husband all I wanted was a ring I could have forever and not need to upgrade and that he put more money towards the diamond and not the wedding. I love diamonds and I don’t care for weddings. So my husband got me a beautiful ring that was perfect and more than what I was expecting because of our age and his work situation and got married at the court house. Dress and “wedding” was only 160 bish ;) I love him so much because he knew I wanted a nice ring and just to be married. Weddings are too much work and money for one day. My ring is forever as is my marriage. I have my diamond forever, him forever, and our day didn’t cost us anything and it was the best day ever!

My engagement ring is not huge, but it is a family heirloom. It was my mother’s engagement ring and wedding band set. She gave it to my husband and he had it resized, polished, and the diamond replaced. It was previously tarnished and been through a lot of wear and tear. The ring is beautiful and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. It’s even more meaningful now that my mother has gone to be with the Lord. 🙏🏼

My guy knew I didn't want a diamond, and I prefer silver, so he got me a silver band the type I can wear in work, with a blue topaz for my birthstone and also because it's the stone that represents creativity. First of all, never ask for or accept ANYTHING that you already know is out of his (and ultimately your) financial capability- including clothes, cars, house, extravant wedding,honeymoon, etc. Your fiance should already know your personal taste in ALL things of importance prior to the engagement- including jewelry. The ring should reflect YOUR taste. At the end of the day, this is probably your ring for life. It shouldn't be a deal-breaker but yes, it matters!!

I personally prefer a necklace with our birthstone (we are both amethysts) and then add the stones of our future children. But if he decides a ring I prefer a practical small ring :) also where he is from women give men watches as a way in accepting the engagement

Well it doesn't hurt to know what your future wife likes, but women should not base the relationship on what kind of ring she gets. Why should they even get a ring in the first place? Just get married and be happy with that. The ring means nothing in the long run. In my country, engagement rings aren't that common. Usually the couple gets plain matching rings for the wedding ceremony and that's it.

Engagement ring are not that common? Where do you live? I live in a really small country in europe and engagement rings are a must for a wedding. If you want me to marry you will buy that ring. In our country you can get an engagement ring for about 80€ which is nothing. If that`s to much.....by. Wedding rings are a lot more. And you can only buy one ring and have it as engagement and a wedding ring.

When my husband and I got married I honestly didn’t want a big ring. I told him I only wanted a band that I loved and didn’t want a separate engagement ring and I didn’t want a large wedding either. I wanted a band that I loved so that’s what he got me. I absolutely loved that ring!!! It was simple and pretty. I had to take it off for class because it had a rite of diamonds which weren’t allowed in that class. I usually took it off at home if I was going to lab classes but forgot that day. I ended up misplacing it. After 13 years with that ring I was heartbroken! He bought me a beautiful new bridal set that year for my birthday. I took it off because my hands sometimes swell due to my RA. Guess what happened? My alcoholic cousin stole it out of my car and o never saw it again. Now I wear a really pretty pearl color groove ring that I don’t need to take off while I’m doing anything. It’s comfortable and it can stay on even if my hands swell.

However if you have the luxury to pick and choose, you can give your man a little hint of what u like. But it shouldnt be your biggest concern. People that are petty over things like that just wanna marry for the wedding, not the actual marriage.

One of the reasons I married my wife, is she thinks white diamonds are common & doesn't like them. So, I bought her wedding set (engagement ring & wedding bands) with our birthstones instead. Mine is emerald, hers is blue topaz. Her wedding band is split so the engagement ring sits in between, one side is emeralds, the other blue topazes. The engagement ring is blue topazes increasing in size up to a 2 carat emerald. My band is three stones 2 topazes on each side of an emerald. All 3 rings are 18 carat white gold. Thought I would get off cheap not having to buy diamonds, wrong, custom rings with birthstones cost us more. The reason for the birthstones is always to remind us that our love surounds & intertwines us.

It was a beautiful thing and OF COURSE because no man ever does that people were asking a MILLION questions. But this felt right to us and he wanted to do it so we did it and it was a beautiful thing for the both of us.

My cousins engagement ring was a pebble from the place they went on their first date (a hike). Meant much more to her than any massive diamond would have.

I agree with Loni about engagement ring for guys. I have been saying this to folks around me for a longgg time and I get side eye. The Real had this Christian man who was doing goodwill, he spoke how his spirit shifted when he started helping people. One of the first thing I noticed about him was his ring and I thought he was married but he said he was engaged and he explained why he wore a ring. I was "yessss." :D. They have spoken about guys and engagement rings before as well.

Size depends on the person. Some people just love bling and some don’t. For me a ring is just a symbol. I was never really into jewelry. My (now) husband and I just went to the mall and took me 5 minutes to pick it out and was only a few hundred dollars. I absolutely love it and what it stands for.

Every woman wants a pretty ring ... but if i know that my man really loves me respects me makes me feel like a queen supports me and my dreams than i dont care if he can only affort a 200 dollar ring as long as i like it and it looks good on my finger who cares about size or price

I also feel like the size of the ring doesn't really matter, as long as they are happy with it.

As a guy if a girl complained about the ring I gave her I would take back my proposal 100% not even negotiable. Anybody that cares about the size of the ring is insecure and wants a big ring because it some how means your husband loves you more or less based on the size of the ring
